  • An aquarium powerhead or submersible water pump can add 3 benefits to the aquarium. Even though this video is about how to install a powerhead in aquarium, i will still show you how a submersible pump can help in aquarium filtration, water circulation and water aeration. After watching this video, you can decide if you still want to invest in an air pump and air stone and a wave maker for your aquarium.
    Review is of Armada aquarium water pump AR3880. Capacity is 2500L/H and uses 35W power and maximum operational height is 1.8M. The powerhead comes with minimum accessories which makes the installation very easy. Water hose, air tube, strainer and suction cups are some of them. These days almost all the aquarium powerhead pump comes with dual outlets. 1 outlet is used to pump water to the filter, other outlet is used to circulate water in the tank. A small attachment to the outlet pushes air, which is released in the tank in the form of air bubbles.
    My old aquarium water pump has a long extended pipe and strainer so i decided to attach it to new powerhead. As it will catch all the waste from the bottom of the tank and push it straight to the filter for cleaning. I replaced the strainer for air tube with a check valve so under no circumstance water can flow out of tank and make mess on the floor. Power head aeration will increase oxygen level in the tank, beneficial bacteria, fish and plants all thrive on the oxygen.

    Nice short video on installing a powerhead in aquarium. This setup is way better than a canister filter.

    sir do black sailfin mollies,yoyo loaches,blue spotted gourami ,platies and tinfoil barbs bear little bit over flow from powerhead iflter?
    or will they die?

      If they seems like enjoying the water flow then it should be okay. Alternatively use a pvc pipe and turn it into a spray bar to reduce the currents.

    Really like your video love your music but could you please attach a gigantic air pump to that just an adjustable 4-port air pump one of the cheap $20 ones on eBay that's what I'm using right now it works great trying to figure out how to increase the wattage and voltage on it

      Agree Raju, alot could be done. I prefer powerhead over canister due to this reason but it has its own pros and cons.

    Good day. May I know the length and width of your tank?

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  4 года назад +1

      Good morning Jumar, Length:120cm, Width: 36cm and Height: 50cm.

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  3 года назад

      Hi Jumar, To start the pump, it must be fully submerged in water. Once it is started then pump will take water from the bottom of the tube. You can experiment this during water change. Leave the pump running and lower the water level below the pump and it will still be pushing water out. I have tried it many times and I can confirm that it will still suck water from the inlet tube.

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  3 года назад

      Hi mate, the inlet should be a tight fit and it is attached to the end of powerhead with impeller. Which sorta confirms what you have mentioned as the water is always in contact with impeller and the only difference is that it comes through the tube. A loose inlet tube will be useless.
      The concept is bit similar to a canister filter, where the pump is inside the canister filter. Once canister is full of water and turned on, the water goes to the filter through the inlet.

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  3 года назад

      Hey mate, it is bit complicated and I am not that good in physics. All I can explain is that Impeller in the powerhead creates the flow and the pump head along with the actual motor creates the pressure. This pressurised environment pushes the water out through outlet and takes water through inlet.
      If powerhead is not submersed in water then motor will spin the impeller but no pressure will be created inside the head, hence no water movement. But once water movement starts and powerhead is taken out of water but inlet tube is still in the water, pressure still remain and water movement will keep occurring till powerhead heatsup and stop working.
