- On a gorgeous Summers day with wall to wall sunshine, I went up to the Dean Forest Railway in Gloucestershire, to try out the new camera on some Steam. The intention for this event was to run Ex GWR 14XX 1450 in it's new green livery on Auto trains along this beautiful line in the depths of the Forest of Dean, Unfortunately is was declared unfit for duty, and locally based Pannier tank 9681 was on duty. As this loco is not Auto fitted, it has to run round it's train at each terminal. The train was made up of Auto Coach W238W 'Chaffinch' in maroon livery, and 178 in Great Western Railway Livery.
I must thank all the staff on the service we caught today, they were most welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble for them....it made our visit an extremely pleasurable experience, and for that I thank you.
What a beautiful day for a great trip. . . and you were serious when you said "Explosive Takeoff"! Thanks Bob, for taking me along.
Thank you for the great visit!! New camera works brilliantly!!! Very good quality in picture and sound!
Thank you for really beautiful video! Perfect in every shot! Thanks to all who worked to
It was perfect for this event.....it was timeless....Many thanks...Bob
Then even more better, I have a hard enough time control my mouse hand. Your steadiness is a great thing to have for video/filming trains and other things of beauty, Thank you, Bob!
You are too kind Keith, don't pull yourself down, you consistently produce work of the highest standard in respect of capture and post production.....Regards...Bob
Thanks both, I wanted to get some steam through the lens and it turned out to be a wonderful day out full of nostalgia.....Regards...Bob
Thanks Andrei, the gates are a great example of how things used to be done, and labour intensive was the name of the game back then.....Regards...bob
Thanks Steve, the conditions were perfect, the staff were brilliant throughout the day, and the material captured was everything I hoped for, especially as it was all without my tripod....Bob
It was a real beautiful sight to see this steamer, in all it's glory, and so well kept. Great Video, Bob, your new camera works very well and the colors are really vibrant!
It's not that I'm happier with paler colours Alan, the density of colours I'm watching is spot on through my equipment without any further adjustment....we all have different tastes don't we.....Bob
Thank you for your kind comments, I'm delighted you enjoyed the video...Bob
Thanks David, it's astonishing what these Preservation Lines can do....Best wishes...Bob
Thanks Chris, I couldn't have wished for better weather to enjoy this scenic line...Regards...Bob
Great video. You have inspired me to drive the 200 miles to visit the Dean Forest in a couple of weeks time as its one of the few heritage lines that I haven't visited. Looking forward to it already.
No problem Jamie, always good to hear from you, and thanks again for your kind comments...Bob
A beautiful video Bob! I liked the way that you caught the shadow of the engine at work during that explosive acceleration in the forest! Great hand held work. Good on ya bud! Rich
Another thoroughly enjoyable upload Bob. This is filming at its best for me and I clearly will never be able to compete with a master at work. The new cam has outstanding performance in the bright sunshine. A easy like...Keith
Thanks Rob, like every upgrade I wish I could have done it sooner....I am over the moon with this new equipment....as you can tell!....Regards...Bob
Je suis profondément honoré Philippe, et je tiens à exprimer mes sincères remerciements pour votre aimable geste .... Diolch yn fawr unwaith eto ... Bob
A great day out Bob, some nice shots there, weather perfect. Liked the bit of hard accelerating done! Well done.
It certainly does Austin, and on such a perfect day...Once again I am left speechless on the results from this camera.....The different between old and new is unbelievable.....I don't know what was wrong with 1450, but it will be out of action for a week or so......Thanks as always....Bob
What a lovely day out Bob.Nice sunny day travelling on a steam engine.Great coverage of the event .Brilliant explosive sound in the forest. That was fantastic.(C&A)
Thanks very much, it was a wonderful day with gorgeous weather which seems so long ago now....Regards...Bob
Thanks very much, it was a beautiful day full of Branch Line atmosphere...Bob
Thanks Larry, all this footage was hand held, so I was very pleased with the outcome.....Regards...Bob
Lovely shots Bob of steam in a beautiful setting. Impressive with all shots handheld. Chris
Thanks Justin, we had a wonderful day up there, with weather to die for.....Bob
A cracking piece of videography Bob. You must be pleased with results like these. Great video of the Forest of Dean Railway. It almost felt as if I was there.
Thanks Martyn, praise indeed from the Master....the camera has a 5 axis hybrid OIS which is superb as can be seen in this production, there are no additional facilities involved...it's indeed a very special piece of kit, with its 3 X 1/2 inch sensors proving stunning images.....Regards....Bob
Fantastic shots Love the colours very rich & lush & shots of 9681 looks fantastic in BR black with two auto coaches :-D
Have watched again Bob, to pick up on your little touches to keep the viewers interest. You have a keen eye for opportunities and I have much to learn and remember....Keith
Excellent video Bob, the camera performs very well but with you behind it its even better. Fantastic weather for your day out . Regards Steve
Bob for reasons unknown your last video was on my end jerky.
this video is flawless with excellent video in every respect just marvaless, great.
Wayne.
The Pannier did a good fillin job there , and deserves a thumbs up , in 1080 full that came out very good Bob
Thanks Alan, I'm surprised you find the colours washed out in bright sunshine....My experience so far is that everything is spot on and more....all part of the learning curve I suppose....Bob
It certainly is Dave, it made the day even more enjoyable...Bob
nice video Bob!your video's are always entertaining!I have only been to the Dean forest railway once when I was about five! But I'm a volunteer on the Pontypool and Blaenavon railway!
What a pity we didn't have cameras like this when we were young ! You can even see the flies on one shot when the train has passed. I'll phone you for advice later in the week for the change I need to make...Excellent once again Bob..................Mike about to edit our day at the WSR
Wonderful images with your new camera Bob. I must pay this railway a visit when I can, looks superb. Regards, Jeff.
I was aware Josh, but as I'd committed to go, then there was no turning back....I thoroughly enjoyed the day anyway...with staff and weather making it even better....Bob
This was my first steam video with the new camera Ken, so thanks for your much appreciated support. In BR days most panniers were in plain black livery like this one.....plain green goes back to GWR days, just before my time, and some on passenger duties were done in BR lined green, and very smart they looked as well.....Best wishes...Bob
Thank you Michael, glad you enjoyed it...Bob
Wow! your on a roll Bob, new camera and wall to wall sunshine, things don't get much better than this..lol
You have a lovely way of editing your footage, which results in great storytelling, the odd clips and changing angles, stitched together to result in a very enjoyable film. Top Marks!
Excellent video Bob.
The steamlocomotive is beautiful.
Very interesting also the crossing at 2:40
Greetings
Günter
very nice video bob,and some good shots of inside the auto car,,they must be a hard to find loco as you don't see to many around hopefully they get to fix the power car , the new cam works great, thanks.
An excellent day out, Bob. You produced a real "feel" for the idea of the event, especially the opening shot. Two men on the gates isn't quite so "Branch-line" but I fully appreciate the reason for this. Re. the 920X, my personal feeling is that it produces colours a little "washed out" when the sun shines brightly. With the old SD90, which I still have, the colours are more vivid. But, anyway, it's not un-treatable!
Danke Gunter, das Wetter war sehr gut ... Danke nochmals ... Bob
Thanks Ron, I must say this new camera is unbelievable better than the old one, and that was very good....Bob
My first stem video with it Paul, all hand held, and I'm absolutely chuffed with the results.....it's done nothing wrong yet....Thanks for your wonderful comments....You are someone special...Bob
Thanks Walter, much appreciated...Bob
Nice video bob. I nearly pop up there my self yesterday but i had other stuff to do sadly. you got some very nice shots of 9681 on the two auto coaches out behind her.
Thanks very much Lawrence....Bob
My pleasure Bill, it was a wonderful day in all respects...Regards...Bob
Thanks very much Gareth, I haven't traveled on this line before so that was a real treat, and a bit more time to find locations along the line would have been helpful....Bob
Excellent video Bob
Doesn't it just John, it was a wonderful day out, and right now the clouds and strong winds are outside before tomorrow's rain arrives....Regards...Bob
Thanks Zac, glad you enjoyed it...Bob
That's good to hear, nothing worse than turning up to be disappointed! In fact 1450 failed for me once before but I had D9555 instead and to be honest that made my day! "The friendly forest line" rings true!
It's situated in a beautiful part of Gloucester, deep in the Forest of Dean....You'll enjoy it I'm sure....Bob
Dear Bob. It is a real pleasure for me to put one of your videos on my site. Unfortunately, my site is in French but I put an automatic translator in several languages, including Welsh. Thank you for everything. Cyfeillgarwch.
Philippe
Make such a great event! Wish I was there!
Excellent video
Thanks Rich, I'm putting the new camera through its paces, and it's coming up trumps every time....Thanks again my friend...Regards...Bob
I totally agree Mike, what amazes me is that I was having great quality with the old camera, but this is like going from 35mm to medium format...the difference is far more noticeable that I ever thought possible....Looking forward to seeing your footage from the WSR...Bob
Great video Bob, I hope you were aware 1450 wasn't running before making the trip, it did say on the website from about Tuesday. Great video nonetheless, it's always fun and games on that long straight!
Thanks Jeff is situated deep in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, and worth a visit if you're in the area....Bob
It certainly did Dave, these images seem better the larger you view them......Bob
Thanks Tim, I imagine the house shakes a bit, my house certainly does and I'm 50 yards from the line...Regards..Bob
Bet it felt good getting a whiff of steam in the lungs Bob. Lovely video of this enchanting little line. Shame for them about 1450, hopefully nothing too serious.
How strange Wayne, and I'm delighted this one is OK, Regards...Bob
Very true - and it's possible that computers and TVs differ in the way they present colour, too.
Thanks Tom, I hope to visit the P&BR in the Autumn for their Gala......Bob
Thanks Steve, you're making me blush :o)....but I like it...Thanks as always for your kind comments...Bob
Fantastic video Bob. Sorry I haven't commented for a while. So busy these days, I barely get on RUclips now. Hence I haven't uploaded any videos for about a year... ;-)
Loved the thrash through the forest. As good as the J94 going into Matlock last week at Peak Rail.
Jamie
Very nice Bob. Certainly waited a long time for this weather. Lovely shots of the pannier and coaches. I wonder what it must be like to live in that one house at Whitecroft? To have steam trains passing about 5ft from your window! All the best...Tim.
Great vid mate, same 1450 was non-operational
great video
The thing is Larry I've just bought a new tripod, but when there are crowds around you, the tripod can be a danger to others....the anti-shake option on this camera is very effective..Regards...Bob
Thanks very much, if 1450 had been working, it would have been sandwiched between the two Auto coaches.....so it wasn't all bad...Bob
I suppose it's what you like. I prefer colours more saturated but you are obviously happy with the paler ones. Interested to see that the Panasonic AG 60 (or something) which is really professional, does them more vivid - or maybe it's because you can set it to do that?
It's my artistic side Keith, I often see things that others around me don't...I try and tell a story, and always looking for those little things that add interest for the viewer...doesn't always work, but I try....Regards...Bob
Don't it make all the difference when the sun shines Bob?it is about time it did, marvelous video, and somehow i knew you had to take a ride, after all, i think it would be the height of bad manners not to......Ha Ha........John
A thoroughly enjoyable video here Bob. You must be pleased with your recent purchase if these results are anything to go by. It wasn't until near the end that I realised that it was all hand held. That's a decent stabilizer you've got built in or did you go the whole hog and buy a steadicam as well?
A very pretty sight. Those crossing gates look a bit labour intensive.
My hands aren't that steady Larry, I often need all the help I can get...and I don't mean that in a flippant way....Best wishes...Bob
How do you manage to keep your camera steady when its out of a coach window?
Dan
+DALEKSLAYER1 It's all down the the excellent camera I use Dan...the Panasonic X920..it has a five axle stabilizing facility, which is fantastic at keeping the image steady...I rarely use a tripod these days...Bob
+Robert Masterman Speaking of camera's, will you be at the Severn Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala?
Dan
No, I'm hoping to do the WSR Dan....Bob
Great video, Bob. I selected as the featured video of the week on on my website trainvapeur.fr. She will be to website first page from 10 to 16 June 2013. Cyfeillgarwch.
Philippe
Anti-Shake option! Hmm to bad they don't have it for humans, I could use the extra help. Take care, Bob
