“Off in the distance there is resistance” “And empires fall in just one day” This song reminds me of World War One. Edit: A lot of people are talking about this in the comments, so I’ll try and explain my thinking: Before WW1, Europe was almost completely ruled by Monarchies, and the empires (or great powers) had remained mostly the same since the Congress of Vienna in 1815, which essentially balanced European states in an attempt to avoid a Napoleon scale conflict. This was surprisingly effective, but was ruined in the formation of the German Empire in 1871, which was formed by Prussia after the Franco-Prussian War, where a bitter France lost Alsace Lorraine. But still, for another 43 years, the fragile balance held, mainly due to the expert diplomacy of Prussian diplomat Otto von Bismarck (Who is an extremely interesting figure). However after 1890, he was fired by the Kaiser of Germany. 24 years later, a chain of alliances began the First World War. So essentially, the European empires have remained relatively the same for the last 100 years, with some form of monarchies in place (Minus the French). However this was about to change, and this is where these two lines come in. “Off in the distance there is resistance,” refers to the outbreak of World War One (obviously), but also to the complex geopolitical alliances and counter alliances, plus the bitterness of nations like France, who wanted to see a stop to the new German Empire. “And Empires fall in just one day,” refers to the treaties signed that ended the wars for each nation. World War One is often considered the end of the dominance of Monarchies, as ideologies like Communism, Republicanism, Democracy, and plain old authoritarianism took root. Not to mention that after the war, 4 major empires would fall, including the Russian, German, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian empires. And while the treaties for each of the countries were separate and at different times, imagine how quickly all of this happens relative to the time. Europe had been dominated by the exact same monarchies for about 100 years, and in just 3 (1917-1919), 4 of these major empires would fall, and the age of monarchism would effectively end. While this isn’t just one day, it is incredibly fast relative to the time period. So that is just my take on it, I hope anyone who wanted clarification understands where I’m coming from now.
Could you explain to me why? I always thought that the whole piont of WW1 was that the war took 4 years where everyone thought it would be finished in a few months, it was basically a balance of powers
"Off in the distance there is resistance" reminds me of ww2 because of the italian resistance by the partisans in northern and central Italy, against the nazi-fascists, and being an italian i'm so proud of all the people who died to defend italy and to give us freedom🇮🇹❤
@@blobfishiant8487 after the armistice in 1943, germany became an enemy of italy, but the fascists with mussolini (which stayed mostly in the center/north of italy) kept fighting against the Allies alongside germany (that's why they were called the nazi-fascists). Remember that since this point italians and fascists are different. The partisans in fact were the ones who fought with the allies against germany and the other fascists italian themselves, and they managed to give freedom to whole italy
"Seven half-bloods shall answer the call, To storm or fire, the world must fall, An oath to keep with a final breath, And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death"
Same bro, I’ve listened to all their albums on Spotify (wish this song was on there) and most if not all the singles, love them a lot and they’re easily my favorite
This song reminds me of the French Revolution, French Revolutionary Wars and Napoleonic Wars. "Ready, aim, fire" - Napoleon's overuse of artillery. "Darkness will fall" - Napoleon trying to conquer a bunch of places. "Up in the distance, there is resistance" and "We'd rather die than do it your way" - People sacrificing themselves to overthrow the monarch. "We never quite thought we would lose it all" and "An empire's fall in just one day, you close your eyes and your glory fades" - Napoleon looked like he was winning, but he ended up losing and his empire fell. He then got exiled to Elba, and his glory faded. He came back to France, again, and then took power, but his glory faded, so he didn't win in Waterloo.
Honestly it reminds me of what America might turn into. I mean the similarities between now and the French revolution cannot be ignored. This songs bout to be REAL relevant.
This has such a rebellious and punk vibe to it. I can definitely see there being a story going with this song about people going about and trying to take down a tyrant from the shadows all while trying not to get exposed. Maybe they loose in the end and that's the empire that falls? Or maybe the pull it off and win after an epic fight that kills nearly all of the main characters as well as others? Either way this song really gets me in the mood for some dystopian, steampunk, or even urban fantasy stories about a group of people driving through ally ways, meeting up at night clubs, and doing a whole bunch of stuff to take down a government. Even if it isn't exactly legal.
I like to think of it not as kings and knights and heroes, but as slums living in the soviet union coming up the chain of command in order to defend what they believe in. So like a realist upcoming story
“I was never welcome here” reminds me of when i was younger at my old school... i was bullied. I’m fine now, the only scars left are the memories... i wish i could fire away at the bullies!!! 😈😏 Great song overall😁
I can totally understand this Even I am bullied at my school because my mother is a teacher there.......nobody talks with me properly and I am looked down upon...feels nice to see people like me......
Yeah, this is me. But those memories/scars run deep. They don't leave me alone, and now that I'm older those memories are causing me problems like depression. But good for you! I'm glad that you are now fine. I hope that someday I might also be able to say 'I'm fine" and actually mean it.
I don't know if this is what the song is actually about but here it goes. So it begins in the present with a ruler or rulers of a kingdom. The "with our backs to the wall" is what I imagine them being executed by a firing squad, hence, if they die "darkness will fall" The reason they are getting executed is because "off in the distance, there is resistance" and the resistance took over the kingdom. The rest of the song is flashbacks of how the kingdom was brought down. The "how come I'v never seen your face round here, I know every singal face round here" line I think means that the rulers found a resistance traitor in thier ranks. Back to the execution, the "you close your eyes and the glory fades" line I think means that, if the rulers close thier eyes when they die, the few people left in thier kingdom lose the respect they had left for thier publicly executed rulers. So that is what I thought this song ment. Sorry if its wrong and its a horrible idea, but at least I like it.
This is one of two songs that just make me feel something. I'm not sure what, but my heart just skipped a beat after listening. One of my favorites for sure!

You guys are powerful writers. And I really want to be tutored by you guys, so I can write my own songs, and not just keep singing snippets of what could be very good.
"We never quite thought we could lose it all." uh, avengers : infinity war check- "You close your eyes and the glory fades." uh, rogue steve rogers check-
The first time I heard this, it was when I was looking at my Itunes playlist. I didn't remember ever adding it to my playlist and when I listened to it I didn't recognize the lyrics, but I just thought "Well, it's already in here and it's a good song, so I'll just keep it." I really love this song a lot now haha.
This reminds me of Warrior Cats. When the cats lost their home and had to travel far to find a new one. They never thought that they’d pull lose it all. Their home, gone and never to be seen again.
I remember I found this song at the beginning of my star wars obsession and have always associated it with the clones and order 66. "Empires fall in just one day" the fall of tbe republic "we don't have a choice to stay" bred and raised for battle "we would rather die than do it your way" the rouge clones.
This reminds me of Star Wars: A New Hope when it says “An empire’s fall in just one day” “You close your eyes and the glory fades” and “Ready aim fire” sounds like Luke when he blew up the Death Star
This really reminds me of the American Revolution, those people were pushed back and not allowed to stay with England. They lost almost everything, the king just didn't comply with the demands they wanted. The 13 colonies wanted to stay but they couldn't, they were backed into a corner and had to fight for what they believed was right.
I love how Imagine dragons sing about war, victory, sacrifice and pain with no useless drama. All their songs, even the sad ones, are so inspiring!

Me at the end of vacation: *with our backs to the wall the darkness will fall we never quit thought we could lose it all*
Quite*
Does all vacations feel like that when they end? Cause I've never went on vacation.
@@elementalfoxka6105 same actually.
Yup me
To imagine dragons: this song is powerful for me. And hopefully you're not mad at me when I say this, is that if you keep writing songs like this, you might just be an activist. You guys are powerful writers. And I really want to be tutored by you guys, so I can write my own songs, and not just keep singing snippets of what could be very good.
That's very weird but ok-
You are already good man! Don't lose hope, keep it up!
music video perfect for us muslims...

This band is not capable of making bad songs...And I love it😄😄

This reminds me of Warrior Cats. When the cats lost their home and had to travel far to find a new one. They never thought that they’d pull lose it all. Their home, gone and never to be seen again.
Omg I never thought of that! But that is exactly true. This song totally relates to Warrior Cats. Also it’s my favorite book series ;)
UGH YES
I remember I found this song at the beginning of my star wars obsession and have always associated it with the clones and order 66. "Empires fall in just one day" the fall of tbe republic "we don't have a choice to stay" bred and raised for battle "we would rather die than do it your way" the rouge clones.
Who's listening to this while the Coronavirus is going on cause I am.

Velvet Mainwood I gochu 🙌🤙

Literally anybody reading this comment between now and when it's over

This reminds me of Star Wars: A New Hope when it says “An empire’s fall in just one day” “You close your eyes and the glory fades” and “Ready aim fire” sounds like Luke when he blew up the Death Star
One of my favorite songs
Whenever you hear this song, you can just imagine you like a Guardian from Destiny or a Spartan from Halo fighting your strongest enemies and winning.
I wish I could find this on another music service
I checked Spotify, Amazon Music and iTunes
Seriously
This really reminds me of the American Revolution, those people were pushed back and not allowed to stay with England. They lost almost everything, the king just didn't comply with the demands they wanted. The 13 colonies wanted to stay but they couldn't, they were backed into a corner and had to fight for what they believed was right.
A man on a mission changing a vison I was never welcome here,
