Maritime traffic jam: Ship blocking Suez Canal could take weeks to dislodge
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 мар 2021
- Experts troubleshoot to try and speed up dislodging the cargo ship blocking the Suez Canal and causing a maritime traffic jam.
Some companies are being forced to travel alternative routes taking on additional time and costing thousands of pounds.
Diggers are currently trying to excavate the bow of the ship while tugboats are attempting to pull and push the boat free.
Sky's Helen-Ann Smith reports.

Between 2012 to 2019 they built additional channels at some points of the suez channel, so ships could use a second lane, but of course it got stuck at a part where only one lane is existing.
They will probably start building a second lane after this incident at the entire lengh of the suez channel.

Expect more 'black swan events' in 2021. We will look back on 2020 as a relatively good year with just a mild pandemic that we overreacted to.
I can’t lie 2020 has been worse then 2021
I'm going to bet that we'll never look back on 2020 as a relatively good year. A quarter of the way through 2021 and what's it given us, a blocked waterway? Cool, look forward to that killing 2.8 million people.
@@Munkenba Just wait. Three quarters yet to come.
It was a deliberate act
As ships get bigger to carry more goods there will be bigger and bigger surface areas for the winds to hit. Winds have been moving sand around the Sahara and Arabian Peninsular for millennia it was just a matter of time before this happened. The canal was built 150 years ago for ships nowhere near the size of modern ships. If this route is to remain viable then there are going to have to be major works carried out on the canal to prevent this happening again. For those ships that are waiting in a queue I would have though that regardless of the extra cost they should be replanning their routes because this is unlikely to be fixed in a few days.
Amazingly, the water in that canal looks oddly beautiful. Wouldnt expect that.
Just after the war my uncle used to swim across the canal for fun. The British army had a small recreation camp based in the middle of the canal.
So let me get this straight. Most of the suez canal has two channels, and yet a super tanker (one of the few big enough to cause a blockage) somehow finds itself in the single channel and despite being only 3 years old its engines fail, no one drops anchor and the wind blows it into a 90degree perpendicular turn so that it accidentally blocks the entire canal. And no one thinks this isn't slightly suspicious
It was a spooky ghost
ah yes, big illuminati. Never underestimate human incompetence.
@@digbysirchickentf2315 I sense sarcasm🤣

@@alan6 its not exactly to do with ships but. Any factory fire that has happened since the 1800s?

This is a lesson about NOT depending on foreign companies for basic goods. Countries need to get back to AND take back their manufacturing.
Sometimes these "basic goods" cannot be bought or grown in other countries though
‘What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?’
But that's inefficient and expensive.
Cheap shipping and centralised, mass-produced manufacturing means cheap prices for consumers. We vote with our dollars when we buy goods, and I am glad to buy cheap stuff made in China or Asia.
@@newsgetsold Then, I suppose they are just gonna have to find a way to make it more efficient and cheaper, as having all of your eggs in one basket is not exactly sustainable.
