    If you have experience with both, are you on Team Parkhurst or Team Truman? They seem/feel very similar to me. Thanks for watching!

      Both Parkhurst and Truman make excellent boots. It comes down to intended use, style preference, personal fit, and similar factors. I myself lean slightly to Parkhurst because of the sleeker last and because I want to see the company succeed, but I would never discourage someone from trying Truman. Both companies and their products are well worth supporting.

    Those are beautiful boots. Great review. Parkhursts pictures can be a bit deceiving as Andrew does most of the photos in what appears to be a bright environment so indoor or darker lighting they tend to appear darker than the website pics. I love my Parkhurst camel kudus. I'm waiting for them to release more styles this year and will probably pick up a second pair by the fall. Their 602 last is just about perfect. Sleek like Thursday but with a bit more toe room than Thursdays old rugged last, and not as bulbous and rounded as Thursdays Nirvana last which they are in the process of phasing out for something in between. I'm a big fan of commando soles for grip especially when they don't look TOO rugged from the top/side. Parkhurst's sole is pretty much perfect for this. The only issue I've had is my round laces started fraying on both boots in one spot, I think from the speedhooks friction. I'm going to reach out to Andrew to ask about it and either see if I can get another set from him or if their are better 3rd party choices. Do you have any durable round medium/dark brown lace recommendations?

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle Год назад

      Thanks, Blade! Yes, you're right. Andrew actually send me a message on IG and basically said the same thing about color variation. It's definitely something I expect so I wasn't upset at all, and the boots look great in the shade they are, so no worries! Camel Kudu sounds awesome. I'm hoping to get some Moose boots from them in the future!
      I really like these Parkhurst commando so far. I waited so long to try more because I just really don't care for the Vibram version that is on so many small brand boots.
      Interesting on the laces. I could definitely see that. I've only got experience with your average cotton and waxed laces, both round and flat, but I hear they have kevlar-infused laces to try and combat exactly what you're talking about. No idea what company makes good ones, but I'd start there. Heck, maybe I'll buy some to review! ;)

      @@rockymtnstyle i have the allen in rust waxy and black, and niagara in smooth leather and the allen in kudu. so far, the allen in black waxy leather has been my favorite. the contrasting welt and the versatile last of the allen makes it a very nice boot for all occasions. I can't wait for Andrew to add more to the inventory soon. As much as I love Grant Stone, Parkhurst fits me better.

    • @bladerealm124

      @@davepaek5014 I had to return my Grant Stone storm kudus in two sizes as I couldn't get a good fit without major heel slip and/or too tight on the top of the foot. The Parkhurst 602 last fit me perfectly in the same size as my Thursdays (9.5D). I'm also waiting for Andrew to add more styles. I'd love a pair of the cumulus kudu if/when he restocks those. I also prefer the commando last he uses to most of the danite/leather options that Thursday and Grant Stone use for most of their boots. How do you find the black waxy leather vs the kudu in terms of flexibility and breathability? Any notable differences? I have the camel kudus and they are probably my favorite pair of boots.

    • @davepaek5014

      @@bladerealm124 interesting. i'm 8D in almost all Grant Stone lasts. I could make due with 7.5E for Leo last as well. But for Parkhurst, I'm 7.5D. I actually had to return my 8D in the Allen as it was too roomy. I also like the Commando sole as well, but not for every boot. My Nighthawk Kudu (C F Stead calls it Cumulus) came with Dainite sole when Parkhurt was using it prior to changing their build. Anyways, I love the black waxy leather. It's very versatile. It's not the type of leather I often like to wear to work, but I've done it a few times and it's not too bad. The Kudu on the other hand, because of it's grey blueish color, it's not as versatile. But the leather itself is super supple, pliable and all the natural scars are just super interesting. It's my showpiece leather in my collection. I wouldn't hesitate to get another Kudu leather footwear though.

      @@davepaek5014 thanks for the feedback. I should have mentioned I tried a 9.5D in the Grant Stone Storm Kudu and they had major heel slip even fully tightened (putting pressure on the front of my ankle). The 9D was better but still had some slip on one foot and were too tight on the top of the foot when laced. The Parkhurst 9.5 in the 602 last fit like a glove from day 1.

    So you don't like Vibram outsoles? Are you referring to the 430 mini lug soles? I have those on my Red Wing Blacksmith boots. Extremely durable, but yes they are kind of hard underfoot. That must keep you away from a lot of Red Wing heritage, since they use that sole on most of their best sellers.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, the 430 mini lug. I mention them a lot. With more wear across many boots, I dislike them as much as I used to. I have the Iron Ranger 8111 and don't mind it at all because of the heel being much different than many other applications using the 430. But yeah, it's the overall hardness and noisiness of walking that I dislike the most. They are actually very comfy once fully broken in on my Taylor Stitch Trench boots. Thanks for the comment!
