Dude, this looks fantastic. I'm jealous of your build. I may reconfigure mine to more closely match yours. Love the pull up bar replacing the top member and the rings are great too. Your solution for the dip bars is also very innovative. Overall, this is an amazing build. Thanks for the shout out.

Thanks chap - Stoked you like it.
I have just uploaded the full technical specs, including the measurements for the new brackets on the dips station, if you want to use those - Docs here for free download:
      afterglowlondon.com/pages/document-downloads
Here's my longer form video with the full A-Z build guide - I've added the gymnastics rings to the description: ruclips.net/video/Wqpg-N6JMfI/видео.html
Also - See [26:46] on the video for how I installed the alternative pull-up bar design.
Lastly, you might want to check these rubber caps out, for your exposed bolts at ankle level, I found on Amazon:
      www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0099PXJNC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These stainless steel dome headed nuts also seemed like a good option:

      Take it easy dude!

Great improvement by removing upper crossbars ! What is the reason for 2/3 height front posts? Squat safety ? Should there be crossbars to central posts ?

    • @jaybarratt
      @jaybarratt  Год назад

      Hi Sergei,
The front posts are there because it gives you the option to drill holes through them, so you could insert additional safety bars at a higher level, should you want them for doing squats, with the metal bars as support for example. Personally, I haven't done that yet, since I am happy with just having the existing safety bars at the existing lower level, because if I hit failure while doing squats, I can get out from underneath without problem... But it's nice to still have the option, should I want to add that later.
The front posts also give the rack additional counter-balance and stability... since the whole thing is just a bit heavier overall with those. I would say this is particularly important if you are going to do lots of pulls-ups & muscle-ups, so the rack doesn't move around so much.
The reason for making the front posts 2/3 height was also to create more space when practicing muscles ups and/or calisthenics. I thought that if the front posts were the same height as the taller central posts, then they might get in the way.
Regarding crossbars between the front posts and the central posts...No you don't need them, as it works just fine as it is.
However I will be making a new video on the home gym soon, where I show how to add the cross bars by connecting the front-posts to central-posts DIAGONALLY.
I can't say the reason for doing this yet, as I want to reveal the new design as a surprise... which will show the reason I have added a diagonal cross-bar.
But in the meantime, before I release the video... if you are going to add a cross-bar, then I would recommend that you add a diagonal cross bar, not a horizontal cross bar.
Noted - With the benefit of hindsight - If I was going to build this whole gym rack again from the start... Then I would make the two long wooden beams on the floor a bit longer, and then move the front posts even further forward, to create a wider space between the central posts and the front posts. This would then give more space for moving around while doing squats. (I would also make the rack a few centimetres narrower, so the weights don't occasionally catch on the sides while doing squats).
      Hope that helps.
Feel free to ask any other questions, I am happy to share my experience.
      Have a good day brother!
      😎

@@jaybarratt Thanks for the replay ! I was thinking about shorter front posts - just at maximum height you need for safety bars. Waiting for a new video ;)

@@websvify - Something you may want to consider:-
You could make the front posts the same full height as the central posts... and then once you have finished the build and have been using it for a while... You could cut the front posts down to a smaller size if you want to. Whereas if you start off with smaller front posts from the beginning, you can't make them taller later on.
This approach would give you maximum flexibility / optionality + it would also make it easier to add the diagonal cross bars later, as you could choose what angle you want the diagonal cross bars to be.
Good luck with the build my man! :)

Good stuff! Let me know if you see anything you like with the clothing merch. I recently upgraded my setup, so I can print custom colour combinations (shirts/logos)... So if you want a specific design, let me know in the comments, and I'll print up a fresh one to your preference.
Cheers & have a good day!
      Jay.

Hey, thanks. I've been using it now for over 6 months, and I find the artificial grass actually has a pretty good feel. Just the right amount of cushion that it's better than concrete, but not too soft either. Only thing to keep in mind is if it is wet, to be a little more careful... although I don't tend to use the outdoor gym when it's raining, and use my indoor parallettes instead on those days - You can check out my review of the parallettes here if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/dQwfk3ojlns/видео.html

hey my man, where did you get the girthy timber posts from? i just moved to the uk recently and I have no idea where to get the larger stuff from. all I've found so far is not substantial enough for this purpose

    • @jaybarratt
      @jaybarratt  3 года назад

You can find the 100mm x 100mm x 2400mm rough sawn wooden posts in some B&Q outlets, though often it depends on the branch, as some stores don't stock that large size.
Personally I found it was easier to get them from a local timber merchant. In London I used 'Fulham Timber' who were very good: fulhamtimber.co.uk/timber/sawn-timber/sawn-treated-timber/?sort=bestselling

Curious - How do you find ways to reduce this in the videos that you create?

@@jaybarratt you can join a public speaking club and they help with this it’s also really cheap to join.
Another way is to just start being really mindful of your communication and learn to notice every time you use a filler word and get used to using silence instead of umms.
