Sean Connery: James Bond Revisited - DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- Moviegoers lost perhaps the greatest screen icon of the 20th century this week when Sean Connery, the greatest James Bond of them all, passed away at 90. It just so happens that his death coincided with the release of our latest episode of James Bond Revisited, on his initial swan song as 007, Diamonds Are Forever, which would be the last "official" Bond film he'd be a part of. While I don't even think Connery himself would say it was one of his best, Connery, as always, is a great Bond, so join us as we pay tribute to the great man - who would indeed return to the part twelve years later (in top shape) in Never Say Never Again!

"Diamonds Are Forever makes Moonraker look like The Dark Knight." Lmao okay, that got me.
RIP Sean Connery: a true film legend.
He's not lying.
At least Moonraker knew it's limitations.
@@ricardocantoral7672 I would like Moonraker a whole lot more if it got rid of the stupid silly camp crap. Moonraker is a better film than Diamonds Are Forever. I also rather watch Moonraker than Spectre as well.
Moonraker was basically the same plot as The Spy Who Loved Me, except set in space rather than under water. (Star Wars Rip Off!) The sad thing is that I actually like Roger Moore, he's been in some cracking films, and he has his own brilliant persona. The only thing he's not is Sean Connery!
@@greatwuta I agree. Moonraker had genuine moments of suspense and violence such as the brilliant centrifuge scene and the shocking death of Connie DuFour.
RIP, Sean Connery. Nobody does it better than James Bond.
Bond..James Bond.
Sorry, I had to.
Nobody does half as good as you, Sean.
All the others played Bond, Connery was Bond.
The spy who loved me was a Roger Moore film, but that's still a charming comment
Makes me feel sad for the rest
RIP Sean.. your movies had a special place in my life because my father looked exactly like you.. so it was difficult to watch a movie with you without being constantly reminded of him..
Your father was obviously a handsome man. Sorry for your loss.
The Howard Hughes villain was a really cool touch.
Filmed at his hotel as well .
Jill StJohn was probably one of the most beautiful bond girls. Totally stunning!
I was just saying the same.
Probably the sexiest.
@@howie9751 I would have to agree
She has alot of controversy surrounding her life .
beautiful...maybe not. but HOT...heck yeah!!!
This was my favorite Bond film. I see Bond films as fun, and this one was fun and had style.
I still shed tears to this day !! RIP Sean Connery, I salute you !!!!
The bond girls in this movie are absolutely smokin'. Especially Plenty O'Toole
Most definitely a mega hotty
She didn't do much for me. I liked Tiffany Case.
What about Bambi and Thumper?
@@caza728 Meh
Definitely was a fun film in the series, more of a satire. Connery was tired of the role and felt taken advantage of by the Producers of the series. The success of this movie, set up the Roger Moore era of films, which continued the gadgets and humor that made Moore's movies so successful.
Connery is still the best Bond, hands down.. Definitely an icon whom's acting has been missed for nearly 20 years! RIP.
Diamonds are forever... and so does your legacy, Mr. Connery. Rest in peace!!!
Great as usual, Thanxx!!!
R.I.P Sean Connery ❤️🙏🏻
My first Bond film. I was 12, sitting in the General Cinema theater in Burlington, MA. I was mesmerized from the white dots through to the end. After that, I read ever Fleming novel and tracked down all the films (including a triple-feature [pre-VCR days]). It was wonderful.
Well at least he died rich and had a great time in retirement rest in peace Sean Connery.
Damn, so much class in those last lines.
Lana was exceptionally gorgeous. My oh my. :)
Lana Ward in that dress was exceptional. The costume department deserved a reward for that alone.
I am so intrigued by the possibility that this could’ve had Auric Goldfinger’s twin brother in it. It is so cool to see Connery back in the role for just one more go though, a up to that time. But George Lazenby’s turn in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was excellent. If memory serves, the original plan was to have the end scene of Bond and his bride being shot by Blofeld from OHMSS as the pre-credit scene for “Diamonds are Forever”. I will always love this film though. Keep more Bond retrospectives coming!!
That was a dumb idea and I am glad it was scrapped. I hate the thought Gert Frobe returning to the series just to do a lame knock off of Goldfinger.
Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are legendary.
Mr Wint and Mr Kidd are pretty great... Theme song is amazing... it's silly fun. 7/10
This film will always be good time to watch. Favourite unsung moment in the film. One of the surreal gangsters cracking a smile while telling Bond he too has a brother.
Sean Connery was the best bond !!
Who else here agrees? 😏
Yes,but nobody could wear a safari suit with the same degree of causality as Roger Moore...

I know it's an unpopular opinion... But I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER!
These are great reviews!! keep up the good work
Diamonds are forever and so is sean connery
R.I.P., Sean Connery, the real legend in movie world!!! *** And "Diamonds Are Forever" is not a bad movie after all!!! I really enjoyed to see Las Vegas in 1971. Car stunts are great. Women are very beautiful. Stunman George Leach in the finale in great. Title song is one of the best ever. And of course: there's a lot of fun, important element we cannot see in Craig Bond's anymore............
Please don't compare any Daniel Craig's 007 films to this garbage.
This is my fav Connery film... yes even more than Goldfinger... which is my second fav Connery.
Totally disagree with the villains rating. Way overthinking. They’re great in this film!
Yeah, this reviewer is a bit of a sensitive leftie at times. I noticed it in his review of The Man With The Golden Gun. He's way too politically correct to give an unbiased review of these two Bond movies. I thought the two baddies in this one were great and very memorable. They deserved way more than a two out of ten.
Yeah I disagree too, he gets really nitpicky and very PC at times, and you can't really judge it that way due to this era of Bonds were made in a totally different time
" I gotta brudda ! " " Small world "
What did he say?
RIP a Legend BOND JAMES Bond 🙏
Such an underrated Bond film. It's my second favourite. Las Vegas just looks so good and the music is superb. the thing that always disappoints me is the lack of probable 1) Money and 2) Technology for it's time, to do the mini-sub chase sequence near the end. The Spy Who Loved Me was a more complete film.
Rest in peace mr. Connery sir. Epitome of a man. Rest in peace
At 5:43 I realized Charles Grey kinda looks like Sean Bean
Despite the film's lack of favour in the Bond fandom, it's one of my all time favourites. There's camp galore, but also some slightly more serious elements that I like. Characters like Tiffany, Plenty, Wint & Kidd and Willard Whyte are very enjoyable. Norman Burton was decent as Felix, and dare I say Charles Gray is my favourite Blofeld. The score is amazing, Vegas is a nice distinct setting for Bond, Bassey delivers another great song, and the script has a lot of great, witty dialogue.

I saw a Jimmy Dean sausage ad watching this ... And he's... In this movie...
One thing I really liked in this movie is that they addressed the moon landing conspiracy when Bond drove through the set of it being filmed, showing that it indeed was a topic of conversation in the 1970's. Sean Connery was such a distinguished charismatic man, who had no desire to be a Hollywood elitist, and who was completely content having just enough money to live in peace. I didn't know he donated his salary for this movie... what a class act. RIP old boy!
By far the funniest Bond film, very entertaining.
RIP James Bond ;-)
This is the best Bond film in my opinion.
Thank you for the video. Have a nice day.
Damn I had that same SwRadio 3:39 when I was a kid.
How did the gay bad guys not age well? Explain. Or is “not aged well” just your go to phrase?
the way they are portraied is anything but woke - to say it politely.
@@MrKahlerHahn what’s wrong with their portrayal?
There is nothing wrong with their portrayals. He must not like how the gay guys were villains. What a wuss
@@NeverSaySandwich1 I found that the gay couple was one of the few redeeming qualities of the movie
@@kalinka3133 They're alright. I hate PC stuff, but I don't see anything that could be cried about as being "problematic". If they weren't gay it wouldn't change anything about them. I guess this guy wanted them to be more open about it or something
I don't know if I should feel admiration or disgust for George Lazenby, he was clever enough to get the role, but he could have kept going for many years being a god on film (as well as in the real world).
If you see becoming bond he left the role because of the conformity rules of being in the role and not wanting to sign a slave contract just didn’t want to be controlled by the studio’s
I think Lazenby would have been an Aussie James Garner. He would have a successful film career but he would probably be better known for his TV work
It's pronounced Bah-sy not Base-y.

RIP
Sean Connery
(1930-2020)
Diamonds Are Forever is his last official Bond film, I do not count Never Say Never Again (1983) because it’s a non-eon film.
On what, exactly, are you basing your assertion that Lana Wood (Plenty) "can't act-at all"? She has maybe 3 minutes of screen time before she's tossed out the hotel room window into the swimming pool. Then the next time we see Plenty, she's at the bottom of Tiffany's pool, dead.
Beautiful ending
Rip Sean Connery
Personally, I thought Thunderball was worse. Mr Wint and Mr Kidd are some of the most sinister henchmen across all Bond films, being much more psychotic and cruel than most. They make up for any weakness in Blofeld, although I liked Charles Gray. Jill St John is terrible though.
The Offence is an excellent film if you've never seen it - very low key. Also, although there is no direct evidence that Robert Wagner killed Natlie Wood, if anyone did kill her then the circumstantial evidence points to him. He had motive, means and opportunity. They were drunk and arguing on the boat, and he was the last person to see her alive. He lied about the couple arguing, he prevented the captain of the boat from looking for her, and she had bruises on her face and body that could have occurred before she fell in the water. Not only is Lana Wood convinced he did it, so is the captain of the boat. It would have made for a really good episode of Columbo.
I had no idea the 2 henchmen were a couple. I guess I never caught that part as a kid.
This is one bond film I haven’t seen actually. Jill St John was one of the prettiest red heads ever and interesting about Crispin Glovers father.
Man... You are good
This one is by far the worst of the Sean Connery Bond movies but I still liked it. I don't care what anyone says but the first 5 Sean Connery films are the best bond movies of all time. None of the other actors even come close to Sean, and those other films weren't as suave or classy. Sean Connery looked exactly what you would imagine a James Bond character to look like.
RIP Sean Connery best Bond of all time!
Win & kid are the best henchmen ever
It's good to be early sometimes.
RIP Sean Connery.
OHMSS is the sixth
How hasn't the gay henchmen not aged well? There's nothing really offensive, they just hold hands.
He's saying the are gross looking-balding and shit. Which is kinda offensive, not all gay couples look like male models.
@@jaredouimette1 He didn't say that.
Nothing about the Mustang sport roof? Or the fact that they had to do a terrible insert to explain how the Mustang starts on one side in the alley, then ends on its other side when leaving the alley?
I love some Charles grey an absolute camp delight
I always thought he looked like the Doom guy in this film. I mean really, Doom guy has defined features, and dark eyes and eye brows, in the statusbar that is. I think of that face as "canon" since his appearance changes a huge deal in other images, red hair and looking almost fat at end screen of Thy Flesh Consumed.
I wonder if the cat's name was Mr Bigglesworth?
Never understood how the mud bath helped Blofeild make his body doubles.
#ripseanconnery
How the hell did we go from “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” to this tripe? I’m so glad George Lazenby starred instead of Connery! From the peak of the series to an episode of “Batman,” which set the stage for Moore’s 1970s, pastel-colored, bell-bottomed camp comedies. Add to that an overweight, bored, Connery collecting the bucks and fleeing out of town. He would, however, redeem himself 12 years later with the superior “Never Say Never Again.” RIP, Sir Sean!
We go from "You Only Live Twice" to D.A.F. and an overweight, bored and aging Connery would be perfect, as Bond after Tracy's death.
Rest In Peace Sean - ruclips.net/video/N9_NsnN5H_U/видео.html
Lazenby did one Bond, but I rank that in the top five Bond films easily, maybe even top 3. Lazenby was a fool for thinking he was bigger than the part he played, and he paid for it dearly by slipping into perpetual obscurity.
6:10 .... Wood can't act...? I never noticed that... I must've been distracted by something during her scenes ... :D
8:04 lmaooooooooooooooo
Wish they hadn't inserted Blofeld into this one, I mean Goldfinger was the only film at that point that didn't feature Blofeld or SPECTRE and it did pretty good so why so set on Brining Blofeld back in such an uncharacteristic manor?
Can you do WTF happened to THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2?
Dude, this is essentially a memorial service for Sean Connery..

Who's Shirley BASEY?
OHMSS was the 6th official Bond film.
It's Shirley Bassey ("bass" like the fish, not "bass" like the guitar)
I've watched every bond movies many times and love the franchise. However, after recently rewatching Diamonds are Forever I think it is pretty weak and low on my list. The scene where the car goes up on two wheels in the alley than switches directions when it is coming out of the alley was a lame error that was pretty indicative of the films faults. A big f-you to the fans.
The two main henchmen were compelling but their ending deaths were lazy. Glover's character just stood around while Bond killed him without putting up much of a fight. "Here, hold this bomb while I flip you over the railing". So bad, so so bad.
RIP George Lazenby’s career.
George was young ( 20s )and it went to his head . He listened to his crappy mgr and if he stayed DRF would had gave him a arc to find Blofeld with more money in the budget he would matured into the role as his own .
"Hi, I'm Plenty."
"But of course you are."

The elevator fight with the real Peter Franks is one of the best in the series.
I think one of best fight scenes by Connery.
Yeah, it has the same energy as the From Russia With Love train fight. Honestly it's the best part of this film.
The Offence (1973) is an amazing film. Really grim and hard-hitting. Connery's performance was superb.
I saw some of it a long time ago. Check out the Andersen Tapes with Connery and a very young Christopher Walken.
Generally I don’t pay attention to celebrity deaths but this somehow his death left me very melancholy at least he had a full life and lived until till 90.,
Should have kept Telly Savalas as Blofeld
The first ten minutes should have been the concept for the whole movie, Bond traveling the world looking for Blofeld and punching people in the mouth.
I was disappointed when I saw it . I thought it would be a revenge film but he supposedly kills Blofeld before the credits . So what happened to Irma Blunt ? The actress died before OHMSS was released but she was the one who shot Tracy , Blofeld was driving.
I do not care about the criticisms towards Diamonds are Forever. It is such a fun movie. Plus the setting and music in it are extraordinary. And Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are the most unique villains ever.
it's great fun
Got that right, i always crack up when they say there lines after they killed someone and that tune that plays when there conducting evil. Definitely unique villains.
Never Say Never was also criticized. I loved both of them.

At 0:11 you say that OHMSS was the 5th official Bond film - but it has to be the 6th (after Dr. No, From Russia with love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You only live twice)

I love Charles Gray as Blofeld. No one else ever played him like a kindly Grandad. Also the brilliance of the line.
"Get back to your post Metz or i'll have you shot"
Then as quick as a flash
"Prepare my emergency sub"
Gray didn't conform to the traditional appearance of the cinematic Blofeld but he did resemble the literary Blofeld in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Gray was a formidable and an imposing actor. If you look at from Russia with love you see that Blofeld had hair. The one point I'd disagree with you is that Charles Gray could ever be considered a kindly uncle?
The movie was alright, but my favorite character was the control room guy, "10 minutes and counting..." which was pretty accurate timewise, and that blank stare just topped the whole thing off. RIP Sir Sean Connery 🏴
I always like to place this one before on her majesties secret service seeing how it has no continuity with that and just watch all six official Connery bonds films together as it makes no difference for that reason than just watch lazenbys outing after this then straight on to the Roger Moore era.
Ouch you just blasted one of my favorite bond films, lol! I liked Christopher Gray, he was better than Telly Savalas at least. The plastic surgery thing is a great gimmick that excuses him surviving deaths or why actors change. Mr Wint and Kidd were iconic too. I can’t think of other Bond villains that make Bond puns. Then you have a joke about the moon landing conspiracy theory, and a clone of Howard Hughes. This is good stuff.
