  • Hello everyone! My name is Jake Carpenter. I was truly blessed to be an actor on the great and important show, A Different World. It was the highlight of my life. It dealt with important issues and was simultaneously so entertaining. I wish there were more shows on the television like this today.
    I was so blessed to be given the role of Rick in the episode of A Different World, "Cat's in the Cradle". It is the episode in which Ron and Dwayne encounter three white guys at a Hillman football game, Ron makes a bet (against Dwayne’s protestations), they all end up in a fight, go to campus jail, and are encouraged to work out their differences. I play the white guy with a conscience who apologizes to Dwayne and Ron in the jail cell. I feel like I had been prepared my whole life for that role.
    I will never monetize this channel, sell any products, or have any affiliate links here. “I Love A Different World” is purely for the celebration and enjoyment of A Different World, a show that was so important to millions of people worldwide.
    If the channel really takes off, I will see how else to add to the channel, such as seeing if some of cast members would be willing to be interviewed about the show and answer your questions. 😊 I hope so.
    Full episodes of the entire series are available on Amazon Prime.
    Please continue to support the work of the great artists of A Different World in their careers now and into the future, including:
    Jasmine Guy
    Kadeem Hardison
    Darryl M. Bell

    @Jake Carpenter
    It was not only entertaining, but it was educational, and thought provoking. Also, it inspired alot of young people to go to college, and become entrepreneurs.
    Great Thanks to Bill Cosby! Yes I will not allow the negativity to overshadow his attributes!

    I don’t know what’s my favorite part of the intro, Whitley’s reflection coming out of the window, The band disturbing and aggravating Jaleesa, or Kim getting her groove on 😂

    I like the fact that there were so many people who lost their virginity at many different ages instead of all giving it up in high school or Junior High like they do nowadays

      @@sagerose6836 now been judgmental just speaking fact. Even on Beverly Hills 90210 there still were virgins. It wasn't looked at as a shameful thing. When I went to high school it seems like everybody was doing it and on TV so was everybody as well. So as an adult to look back it's a good thing to see.

      All I was basically saying was as a mother now it's nice that my children can see shows that don't constantly push having sex. That's what shaming what we talked about sex in my house but not constantly being told this what you're good for ,it's a good

      Yeah because whether you lost it on middle school, high school or college you're still imperfect and unfit because you lost it to someone who wasn't your husband.

    This was a fantastic educational moment. At a time when America was turning a blind eye to the middle of an epidemic. It's a shame they could not have a black gay man be the student with HIV, but sadly in order for this to fly it had to be a non-threatening female character. America was still far too religious to have much sympathy for folks who acquired the virus. This was also a crucial time for the episode to air because let's face it, black gay and bisexual men were a large demographic in the U.S south testing positive. Throw in men on the dl who still had relations with women and you have the mess that was AIDS in America. I'm glad today we've gotten over a majority of our stigma towards hiv but we still have plenty to do. Debbie Allen is a pioneer.

      Or maybe the show was just fantastic the way it was and it didn't have to center around gay characters because that's not what it was about.

      Episode was dedicated to Darryl Tribble - he passed of HIV at like 25 pretty sure he was gay he worked on this episode and fame with Debbie Allen 😘 but everything don’t have to be about gay ppl I’m actually happy it went like this because many people assume only gays catch that and it’s not true
