Designed and Produced by Kan Naito, the first in the series was known outside of Japan and Asia as "Felony 11--79". While it features three separate environments and a test course as opposed to the later games' use of one city, the game itself is rather short overall. Most of the player's time was spent in unlocking the game's many bonus vehicles.
Bought this after recently remembering it as a kid. Arrived in the mail today and just chucked an hour of time at it on my lunch break and had a blast.
Have you played any of the sequels?
@@NikateeN Yeah - Super runabout was pretty great in its own way, I beat that on the dreamcast when I was a teenager! Handling model was a bit floaty and visuals weren't super amazing, but there was a charm to it that kept me going, and the gameplay was fun. Would definitely play through again if I still had a Dreamcast. Currently wondering about getting Runabout 2 on the PSX - have you played it? And I'm super sad that Runabout 3 on PS2 seems to be available everywhere but North America.
I remember playing this as a kid with friends and we really liked it back in it's day, plus we thought it was funny as hell to play. The cows caught me off guard so bad. The first several times I heard the cows I had no idea what it was and I always reacted like "What the devil was that?!?!?!"

I still have the game today one of the first ones I remember getting and playing as a kid.

use to have the demo of it and i am pretty sure the cars you could only pick were the mini and the golden ute (truck) thing andd i luved it

At the time, this seemed like a big step closer to freedom in a video game. Driving through stores and racking up property damage felt like a next gen experience to me. I remember thinking "if they let you run over the pedestrians, this would be the greatest game ever!"
