My first black powder rifle was a T/C Renegade 54 cal.....i bought new from a sporting goods store in Vale NC...i was amazed how accurate this rifle was..I shot Roundball and Pyrodex RS...First game was groundhogs ...I had such a good time taking a break from the centerfire groundhog rifles that i normally used...Never regretted buying that rifle
Got a renegade .50 cal kit gun I bought from a friend many many years ago. One of my favorite traditional muzzleloaders. My barrel, butt plate, and trigger guard are in the white with a slight patina. It shoots great. I bought an unfired .54 renegade kit gun flint lock on GunBroker about 5 years ago. Love my TC rifles. Thanks for the video.😊
I'm pretty new to muzzleloading and this video was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make it and explain some of the things that I need to learn.
I'll just bet my brother in law had a hand in building that barrel...he worked at the Rochester foundry for many years...thats a pretty one for sure!...woods
Nice video and I see in the comments you have several folks new to muzzle loading. I would add one more safety tip for them. Never ever ever try to shoot a muzzleloader with smokeless powder. At the least you’ll destroy the firearm and at the most you’ll destroy yourself or anyone near you. Please, don’t even think about trying it. Good hunting to you all.
Thank you so much for this video. Been shooting my entire life but am just getting into black powder and I have access to my father in laws renegade 50 and this video is exactly what I needed to mentally prepare to get started with it.
Have a New Englander in .54 papers don’t recommend shooting round balls. Built this rifle from a kit. Only difference it has a round barrel and single trigger. Very good guns.
I have the same 50 cal renegade it belonged to my father-in-law for about 30 years but no idea how long the previous owner had it before him. I have been wondering if it could shoot what you are shooting and now I know.
I have the 54 caliber Renegade, love it! I have TC Flintlock kit that I got from an estate sale. Would anyone out there happen to have the instructions? None came with it and I can’t find them online. I certainly would appreciate a copy!
Another great video. Thank you! Question: If your hunting range stayed under 50 yards, max, would it be preferable to use a patched round ball (PRB) instead of a conical? (Whitetail only) I have the Hawkin (.50) and the Renegade (.54) With the PRB at the shorter range, less powder is needed, with less recoil. And isn't accuracy a little better with the PRB? Fifty yards with iron sights is about max for me. I'm sure yours is considerably more! Hence, the harder hitting conical at longer ranges.
You are quite correct, accuracy is a bit finer, and recoil very light using patched round balls. Check out my video from last year where I use both projectiles in my T/C Hawken rifle ruclips.net/video/HlAh5xERrvA/видео.html I think you will find it interesting, that is of course if you haven't seen it yet.
Hello; Enjoyed the video but may I ask a question? I noticed that on the Great Plains bullet you used a patch, I was under the assumption that conicals were used mostly without a patch like the Maxi Ball. Please explain why the use of patch on the conical. Thank you.
Sorry for the late reply. I had to laugh a little bit when I read your comment. I think what you are referring to is when I started the bullet into the muzzle there was a ring of bullet lube around the bullet and muzzle crown. It may have looked like a patch, but it was actually the white lube that Hornady puts on their conical bullets.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Thank you for the reply. I went back and looked at your video. Now that you mentioned it, it does look like the lube. My bad to think that you were using a patch with the Great Plains bullet. I enjoy your videos, They are informative and a pleasure to watch. Thanks again
That's not true about the pipe bomb business. I have fired my 50 caliber hawken with a minie ball only about halfway down the barrel. Keep in mind I had a wire on the trigger and I was a fair piece away when I pulled the trigger. The bullet went out no problem and there was about a hundred grains of powder in the chamber. Black powder is not the same as nitrocellulose it does not behave the same. However if you stopped up the barrel enough and put a spike in there then you will have a bomb.
That is a beautiful muzzleloader. I’ve hunted with a TC Renegade for about 30 years now. Mine is a 54 caliber and it’s my favorite black powder rifle.

I have 54 Renegade I bought new about 40 years ago I still use it I like shooting real bullet from bullet mold

Nice Rifle, good luck this weekend.
Thanks for the support.

Interesting. Thanks for watching.
The renegade we have is the flintlock model! It's amazingly accurate!
That old T/C is shooting pretty dang good Tom. I see it bringing down a good buck.
That would be great!
Great lessons on a fine muzzleloader and awesome hunting points for others. BTW mines a .54 cal Renegade.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Nice T/C Renegade! It was the first muzzle loader I shot, my friends. And I was hooked!
They are fun to shoot.
Sweet Rifle, I have a Renegade Hunter 50 cal. Love shooting it, I use 90 gr pyrodex and a T/C Maxi Hunter bullets 275 gr. Shoots great

I have a t/c 54 cal smoothbore flintlock I got at a hardware store in 2013. I love shooting it at the game lands range.
Good video. I have an old renegade myself and it’s a great rifle. I only use round balls and get good accuracy.
I love my TC Renegade Hunter ……
Still shoots like New !!!!!
🤩🇺🇸👍🏻
Glad to hear that. Thanks for commenting.
I would love to see a water jug test with the great plains bullet
I'll make another video with my black powder rifles, and do some more testing. The water jug test will be included.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman can't wait going out this morning with my muzzleloader to hopefully bag a big buck
Love the music!

I bought 20 packs of those #11’s when I could. And got a 209 conversion kit I can install if needed
Hope you had a good muzzleloader season here in Tennessee. Was wondering if you noted whether the Renegade liked Conicals or Round Balls best?

I have never shot a black powder shotgun.

Is that a 26 inch barrel
That'll work . . !
TC manual states, NEVER RELY ON THE HALFCOCK FOR SAFETY.
I like cci magnum percussion caps better
Same
@@jordanhicks5131 I just have better luck with cci than I do with Remington caps. At least I know the cci will go off on the first cap
I would not advise bringing your bpr in the house loaded static electricity will set it off and you can lose your brains a few have
