What impressed me most was the way Lookman's team mates showed him their appreciation on the field. It was a proud moment to Lookman, to African football, and a proud moment to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. We're so proud of you, dear. ❤

People really don’t remember how Atalanta had PSG on the ropes in the champions league knockout stages a few years ago… they’ve been making the most of their modest budget and playing attractive attacking football for years, they totally deserve this success… only regret is that Il Profesore, Josip Ilicic, isn’t still around to enjoy this success…
the reason why Gasperini still hasn't been called seriously by big clubs is that he is an iron sergeant, he is authoritarian and he doesn't like those who for one reason or another do what they want (for this reason he is considered unfit to manage the established champions), the latest examples being Papu Gomez, Demiral and Ilicic, who after having escaped from Italy in the Covid period, did not return even when the emergency was almost over for the most important matches (perhaps the clash with PSG, but I could be wrong) . After that episode, Gasperini's consideration practically disappeared

Had Leverkusen played the CL, they would NOT have remained unbeaten for so long. Even without the ball, Atalanta was dominating after the first 18 minutes. The pressure without the ball is organized, well-animated, energized and collectively coherent. Leverkusen looked shocked. The first and second goal comes directly as a result of pressure from Atlanta in the Bayern Leverkusen territory. They completely choked out Leverkusen’s ability to express anything.
I totally agree with you.
It's why I never took their unbeaten run seriously.
I keep telling people this, get called a hater. Qarabag, West Ham, Roma and Atalanta all outplayed them for at least 45 minutes. They cling to last minute goals over 10 times.
Those who watched Atalanta vs Liverpool quarter finals would agree Atalanta had more chance coming into this final.
People really overlooked Atalanta. i don't understand why.
Liverpool was nothing special this season in the Europa league. They already lost 2 games at the group stage.
@siveramlord9151
Liverpool played weak sides in those two losses. Not their strongest side as they were concentrating on the Premier League then. They were actually putting 4, 5, 6 past Europa League teams. They thrashed Prague 11-2 in the previous round.
Against Atalanta, again Klopp put out a weakened side, was overconfident and Liverpool got punished, although the scoreline flattered Atalanta. They weren't 3-0 better than Liverpool and Liverpool won in Atalanta.
Dont get me wrong, Atalanta fully deserved to win and to win the trophy, but Liverpool had other concerns. Call it somewhat arrogant, which is unusual for Liverpool.

Those who did not give any chance to Atalanta, clearly never had seen La Dea playing.
So happy for Atalanta and Gasperini. Atalanta are maybe pound-for-pound the best-run club on the continent (have punched way above their weight every year for a decade now), with a great academy (Bastoni, Amad, Kessié, Kulusevski, Scalvini and Ruggeri who both played tonight). And Gasperini has improved practically every player he's coached there (looking at the massive giant profit they turn every year), and a lot of the up-and-coming coaches in Serie A played under him (Thiago Motta, Jurić and Palladino). Antonio Conte was a 4-4-2 coach before he watched Gasperini's Genoa. A brilliant night for football.

Leverkusen starting 11 without a striker and fielding a second team who mostly play in the Europa league for a final is already doom from the start. Another overthinking Pep, Xabi?
For sure, Xabi definitely started believing his own hype and thought he was the new Pep. I'm glad Gasperini gave him a brutal reality check.
With or without striker, Leverkusen still got smashed by Atalanta tonight. If they could slap Liverpool 3 goals right at Anfield, they obviously would be able to do it again with Leverkusen. And they did actually, so they deserve all the credits. As simple as that!
Maybe the lack of a striker did contribute, but I think the biggest factor was insisting to play out from the back when almost all 10 Atalanta players were camped in your own half of the field. This made Atalanta win the ball high up the field a lot of times and got plenty of chances. I think Xabi was stubborn for too long to change his tactics, and it may have worked out other times, but not today

Leverkusen were extremely lucky to be unbeaten at this point. This game merely exposed their true level outside the Bundesliga. Who were Celtic playing from 1915-17? Women's munitions factories and agricultural land army teams?
Leverkusen we're outplayed and completely chocked
It's called "you see me now" from Atalanta..
They sunk Liverpool deep into the Atalantic ocean and yet they didn't get the respect they deserve
I'm pretty sure they've got the media's attention now
Hoping everyone starts respecting Serie A again! Especially the blind EPL fans. Come on Fiorentina!
The fact people slept on Atalanta sums it up for me lol 🤣
Thank you for incredible season Leverkusen & Xabi. Cya in CL ;)
Atalanta brutal pressing. Similar to prime Liverpool team with klopp
Direferent styke. Is all field man Marking
Already said it, I was pulling for Atalanta. Anyone who watched the semi-finals & can analyze football a bit better than the casual fan, saw that the only reason Leverkusen even made it to the final was because Roma ABSOLUTELY sht the bed & Svilar conceded one of the worst goals I've ever seen at the top level of European competition.
