      And unless this was only a year or two old I’d have just bought a new one instead of dealing with the way they systematically cram everything in these. A nice job. Apple had a recall on these iMacs for contaminated TFTs . The problem was really the seal around the glass front and not the TFT.
    When mine came back it still had the faint shadows at the edge on the glass so I took mine back a second time so they could lean the glass.
    The glass still gets contaminated by dust and I am wary about trying to improve the seal.

      @Jeremy Travis you can take the LCD apart, clean both screens from the inside, and seal it all back with aluminum (foil) tape. All you need is a can of compressed air, a T10 screwdriver, a small Phillips screwdriver, and the foil tape. Mine looked like a brand new LCD after I cleaned it.

It has a lower tdp than the Xeon 3470 or the i7 870 and a lower clock speed but it out performs them both as it doesn’t run as hot so it doesn’t thermal throttle. The 27inch iMac is easier to work on. But if you take your time you can’t get it wrong.

    Hey, I did the same upgrade on my machine which is running Sonoma. Since upgrading the CPU once the CPU goes under a somewhat heavy load the fans will turn on full speed and the CPU temp starts reporting as 131C. I downloaded a piece of software that shows the individual temps and there it shows that many of the sensors are reporting -125 or -128 C. I've checked everything I can think of and reseated the CPU. They temps report as expected until put under a heavy load and will jump nearly 100 degrees C.

    Desperate Question: I'd like to upgrade my 2011, 21.5" Imac. I bought it for $20, it works and I was thinking if I upgraded the RAM from 2 gb-10 gb, the CPU, maybe the graphics card and changed the HDD to an SSD, I could play modern games on my Imac with no problem. It wouldn't be a perfect 5 star performance, but it'd work well. Right? Or not? Is it too old? If so, couldn't I upgrade these things and make it modern?

    • @techitout4710
      @techitout4710  4 года назад +1

      It may not play well. When I upgraded the graphics card I later had power supply issues that caused issues with sleep and sometimes it wouldn’t power on. So I wound up putting the stock graphics back in. If you want to game you will likely need windows 10, which boot camp doesn’t natively support on this model of the Mac, so you would have to have windows 10 already pre-installed on an SSD/HDD and then put that in the imac

      @the_color_orange 3 года назад +1

      @@johnbiondi2993 Probably not without upgrading the GPU. CPU and RAM are not going to have much of an effect on video game playability on these iMacs. See this thread forums.macrumors.com/threads/2011-imac-graphics-card-upgrade.1596614/ on GPUs that are compatible and how to get them installed and working. Not exactly a swap for the faint at heart, but it's doable.
      Also, while Windows 10 is not supported natively in Boot Camp, there are certainly ways to install it without "installing it to the SSD already," and I'm not even sure that's a surefire way to get it to work properly while also having the ability to use macOS alongside it. I have installed Windows 10 and gotten it 100% working in Macs as old as a 2006 13" MacBook by installing using a live USB with the Windows 10 installation on it. Follow this guide apple.stackexchange.com/questions/308743/how-to-install-windows-10-into-a-2011-imac-without-using-the-boot-camp-assistant/308812#308812

      @@techitout4710 actually, it is possible to install windows 10 on a 2011 iMac, and it runs well, the only downside is you can only go to windows 10 build 1909 without an eGPU. By modifying the info.plush file in Boot Camp Assistant, it is possible to make a bootable USB installer of windows, but you can only install Windows 10 build 1803 at latest on the USB, you can update it to Windows 10 Build 1909 afterwards, the only downside is the internal speakers will not be detected and a DSDT override will be needed. Or you can use boot camp to install Windows with a CD, which fixes the sound also, without a DSDT override.
      There is also a program out there called Rufus which can also be used to make a Windows 10 installer, up to 1909 for this model Mac, and it does not require any modifications to Boot Camp Assistant, but it does have the issue where the internal speakers aren’t detected. Which I7 What’s the fastest that is compatible with the mid 2011 iMac. I have two, One is just for Internet surfing. The other I have set up with a dual monitor, and final cut pro. It struggles, due to its age, but I don’t want to spend $3500 on a new one, and if I could make it 50% or 100% faster, for a few hundred bucks I would do it. And I just spent 40 minutes searching the Internet and I couldn’t find which I7 is the fastest possible this machine can take. What about the graphics CPU? Is that upgradable. If you put a processor that is not rated 's'' you will have heat and high power consumption problems.

    Hello, and to know if it is possible to change the processor of my iMac model machine iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5 inches, 2017) It currently has a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 quad-core processor. Do you know how much I can upload it? Well, according to Apple, these legends indicate that I copied and pasted you. (Configurable to Intel Core i7 with 4 cores and 3.6 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 4.2 GHz) And if the replacement part is correct, how do I order it online or how would I look for the replacement part???? since it gives me many results and it is confusing for me to find the part to replace. Well, the processor is where I have the most doubts
    On the other hand, memory indicates this...
    Memory
    3.0GHz
    8 GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 memory
    Configurable to 16 GB
    3.4GHz
    8 GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 memory
    Configurable to 16 GB or 32 GB
    But obviously I haven't opened it, I don't know if it works at 3.0 GHz or 3.4 GHz, as I understand it and if it uses 3.4 GHz it is possible to maximize it up to 32GB. Is my thinking correct?
    And finally, on the hard drive, it has a 1TB HDD but it indicates that it can be replaced as follows...
    Storage
    3.0GHz
    1 TB hard drive (5400 rpm)
    Configurable to 1TB Fusion Drive or 256GB or 512GB SSD
    3.4GHz
    1TB Fusion Drive
    Configurable to 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB SSD
    But my doubt is!!! If I can install an SSD with a larger capacity than the one proposed on the page, it indicates up to 1TB. But it can be increased from 2TB to 4TB?????
    Or would you definitely not recognize it?
    I hope for your help with these three ways to maximize the performance of this old machine.

      had the same issue. There is an hdd temp cable on ebay which on one side has touch temp. sensor so you can stick it to the ssd . Otherwise you can just install "Mac Fans Control". Works on Mac OS and Windows too. after installing just put the fan to minimum for the hard drive since ssd doesn't produce much heat

I don't know what can be, the graphic card is not compatible? should I update the EFI/BIOS to accept Ivy bridge? or Apple incorporated some kind of blocking? Hey Jose I know It’s late response and not sure if you figured it out, but from my understanding is that you can only upgrade to the exact CPU that Apple would have offered in the 2012 model year. Same with GPU’s. You just can’t pick any GPU or CPU. I have read that the i7 3770s would work and read on Macforums that someone had the same issues you had with the 3770k, but someone else was able to get the 3770s to work
