ohhh my gosh! this Saint Etienne vid came up on a utube string > so sorry my beloved Saint Etienne > the bestest gig > alas with a super zoom, my arms were so lame :(
Ciao mickymac! St Etienne's (regular) backing singer is... slick Debsey Wykes :) Originally Debsey was the lead singer and bassist of Dolly Mixture (a British post-punk band formed in 1978). Keep safe mickymac
@@sushirider I seen dolly mixture supporting the jam around 81/82. Do you know if Sarah did both spoken word and singing vocals overdubbed on the original single or was there a second singer. I love this song and the video. Many thanks
@@mickymac6571 - wow you saw Dolly Mixture and so uber cool - The Jam! So sorry I don't know the answer to your question. It was the first song I heard by St Etienne - a friend tried to cheer me up with a mixtape when I started living in Hamburg (for a while). Listening to that slick tune, I fell in L.O.V.E with St Etienne :)
@@sushirider I saw Dolly MIxture round about then also, at the Mayflower in Southampton. They were supporting Bad Manners, and were kitted out in Doc Martens. The skins at the front were doing their thing, gobbing at the stage. Eventually, the MIxtures stopped in the middle of a song, and said that either the spitting ceased, or they would walk. The spitting ceased. They also did the backing vocals, and the video for Captain Sensible's song 'Happy Talk', that got to No 1.
@@andrewpreston4127 thanks for your interesting comment. It will also make @mickymac6571 smile as you have both seen Dolly Mixture. Bravo to Dolly Mixture for stopping the skins from.. gobbing! Wow a flashback to Captain Sensible... thanks, I didn';t know they did the backing to "Happy Talk". Viva La Punk and.. RIP stellar icon Vivienne Westwood :(
Thank you... my lovley, (Cameo, Edinburgh) Scott Ward - many years ago, for making me a v slick mixtape, which you sent to me, in Hamburg. It made me smile, while homesick, but I missed a heart beat with radio Saint Etienne intro mixed into... St Etienne nothing can stop us now. You could not imagine, how I became a fan. I so, wished I could tell you, when I come up to to tender my parents grave, but i can't... Every time I listen to Saint Etienne, I always remember you - ruclips.net/video/SO_KQ549N3E/видео.html
I love this song sooooooooo much! Thanks for posting.
