There was an initial reluctance to acknowledge the problem (“We have never had this happen before…”). Once I had video evidence, things started to happen. Initially they sent a new computer, then a new wiring harness! Of course, changing these made no difference. They did then send a new motor, which has cured the problem and the bike is now as it should be: an absolute dream. My own theory is that this problem was caused by a faulty strain gauge, or associated circuitry. The strain gauges form part of the motor unit and measure the force applied to the cranks by the rider. The symptoms I was experiencing would be explained by such a fault. In terms of after-sales service, my bike shop were superb; Trek came good after that initial inertia and much of the delay I experienced was due to Trek’s inability to get a response from TQ. Overall, I can’t really fault Trek, since the bike was fixed in a reasonably timely manner at no cost to myself and I would recommend Trek bikes to anyone seeking a well-engineered mountain bike.
Lovely bikes, I have the pedal version of this, but i know 4 people with EXE's and all 4 have had a motor failure, appalling reliability for something that costs upwards of £6k.
Ya total shame. All these ebike motors have horrible durability. Doesn’t matter if it’s Brose , Shimano , Bosch , tq. They are so fun to ride but 10k (Canadian) is too much to have such poor reliability 😭🤦♂️
The Rail looks like an awesome bike - and I was tempted. However, I really wanted a bike that I would be able to lift over gates and fences. I can just do this with my Fuel EXe at around 18Kg.
Hello, I have a Trek Domane with a TQ HPR50 engine that has the same problem described here. My question is, after getting the new engine, it has stopped causing problems again. Thank you.
It was a toss u between this and the rail for me Ended up going with the rail because of long wait times, seems a nice bike though just early days with the motor
Same issue has occured on my 2024 fuel exe. The motor cuts out for about 2 seconds when I am on a climb, then re-engages. It happens once on each of my 20 mile rides.
@@Lee-ic2yn I also went with a levo over the sl but feel its time to go for a low power ebike. bike shop guys told me the 9.5 isnt worth it and the 9.7 is the best value. might go for the pennyflake
That sounds like a similar problem. How old is your bike? Has it always been behaving this way? Trek eventually replaced the motor in my bike and it has been fine ever since.
@@bankbusterproductions2941 I was very "reassured" to read your explanations and the solution! I bought the bike in January. the problem was from the start. I'm talking to my bike specialist and he's talking to Trek and TQ. Everyone knows nothing, heard about it for the first time. The smart box was replaced, but that didn't help. I will now apply for a new motor.
They said the same to me - that this was the first time they had come across this problem! They also sent a new computer and then wiring harness to try, before eventually replacing the motor. My bike shop was excellent and I gather that any delay was down to TQ not responding to Trek. But it did get fixed. Sending some video evidence also helped, I believe. Best of luck!
Different issue, since begining problem with bike. Exe 9.7 pricey and not happy :( , now waiting what will they do again with bike. ruclips.net/user/shortse94ayLGAvqo First uphill bad like on video, down then again up without issue, next day up no problem, down then up with issues...:( If it is working, the bike is perfect!

Hi - How can I contact you to discuss the problems with the TQ system?
Hope they get on top of this, this bike (when working) would be perfect for the riding that I do.
I had a similar issue with cutting in and out simply solved by the bike shop using electrical connection grease in all the plug in connections
I had the same issue on a scott lumen e-bike (it has the same motor). But in my case the assist was also turning on and off.
Really thanks for sharing, this was very helpful!

Well I hope that Trek get you a replacement motor. Mine has been performing as it should for some time now (touch wood!).
mine is doing this now with a new motor
My new exe needed to get a firmware update. I was getting the 5401 error code and the assistance cut out completely.
I’ve bee lucky with my 3 month old 9.7 model. Did you get this fixed?
unfortunate! i was looking into an exe 9.5 myself but have heard of many teething issues. how has your experience been with trek's service?
Same here, ended up going with a rail instead but I did like the look of this bike

For me, my manpower is displayed, but the support fluctuates from 130 to 5 every second with enormous fluctuations

Did they ever fix this or are they still making you wait?
