I appreciate this so much. I had a horrible experience as a kid. I was afraid and started crying and my dentist was screaming at me to shut up. When a grown ass man is screaming at you to shut up, it makes you even more uneasy. Really awful guy, but I thank you for being kind and reassuring to your patients ❤

Most women do. Women's pain is often dismissed in the healthcare industry. Hence why female patients aren't given anesthesia or even pain medication for gynecological procedures such as uterine biopsies, endometrial biopsies, cervical biopsies or IUD insertions. Meanwhile, male patients are given anesthesia and a week's worth of strong opioid medication for testicular biopsies, prostate biopsies, and vasectomies.
Women's healthcare is barbaric and inhumane.

Just watching this video almost triggered an anxiety attack. F-kers scared my parents into thinking I'd be taken away if I didn't go through, too, so after I bolted my dad had to pull me in by my feet with a potted palm tree dragging with me. And that was the EXPERTS in scared kids. Eugh, Eastman you monsters. Last three baby teeth molars got seriously infected one after another and I chose the pain until I got them out myself.

The “look at me” is the most gentle way to “force” someone to understand that you are not a threat. Eye contact avoidance will reinforce in her mind that He = pain and fear. The direct eye contact during moments of communication and not pain will reinforce that he is NOT a threat and not the source of the pain/fear, and she will have reduced or no anxiety upon seeing him. A dentist that can work like this has a deep understanding of psychology and how our base mammalian instincts work, and THAT is worth its weight in gold.

If you have ever studied pain you will understand that there are people who don’t feel pain very much at all and then those in the other end of the spectrum who feel pain very severely, these people do not respond to the injections, they still feel l Everything, modern dentistry (and other medical areas also) have no answers for these people. They regularly wake up during operations because even anaesthesiologists can not keep them asleep. So these people as children FEEL EVERYTHING. If you are one of those people who don’t feel pain at all or for whom an injection is no big deal, you will never understand . Same! Full blown intense ass panic attacks where I'm hysterically crying and shaking. I had to get a tooth pulled and wanted to be sedated. NO ONE would sedate me other than the hospital which was another 9 months out and I already waited a year while my tooth slowly broke off and it was about to fall out on its own it was so lose. So I HAD to get it pulled that day. I FREAKED tf out, no one would go with me to help me stay calm so I was completely alone with a tooth pulling place with dentists I didn't know, the male dentist that pulled my tooth gave me the injections and stopped after to let my mouth numb, but I also had an infection where they injected so I didn't know it was going to BURN extremely bad and it caused me to flip out worse and I thought he was pulling the tooth when it started burning but he didn't. He also let me take as much time as I needed, checked on me, and his assistant did as well. He did some mind tricks I swear he had to of known some psychology because he talked me through my panic attacks while distracting my mind so I couldn't focus on my fears and freak myself out more. I'm my own worse enemy sometimes and he was incredible. Of course after it was an intense rush of emotions so I just lost it crying but was ok and more calm. Still have a fear of dental work but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. We need more dentists and assistants that understand and help calm people down instead of being rude and brushing us off. Everyone is different. Some people can come in and are like the freaking hulk, do whatever u need and don't flinch, others get in a dentist chair and have severe panic attacks and meltdowns before the work even starts. We need to normalize fear and that it's ok to be scared or whatever emotions you feel are valid.

I used to get so crazy jittery when they injected the novocaine, that my Dentist said I was probably allergic to the epinephrine in the stuff. (I think it's in there to stem bleeding from the inj itself)... So now when I make an appt, I remind them I can't tolerate it and to make sure they have the plain one on hand. Have you inquired if you could be allergic/sensitive to the numbing agent?
I used to work with a Physicians Asst who the Dr taught to anesthetize patients for foot surgery. She NEVER let it hurt!! She took her time, and literally injected the needle ¼"(or less) at a time, waiting for each part to become numb before going in another ¼" and injecting numbing agent into just the already-numb part. I'm sure she used more stuff than average, bc in the length of time to slowly numb the entire forefoot in this manner, for example, it could possibly start wearing off before surgery completed! The crazy part was she wasn't certified, just trained by her boss. This was way long ago, before they even had Physician's Assistant Certificates, let alone Degrees.
Anyhoo, you might relate this idea to future dentists (Never go back to a crappy dentist! I wdnt pay them either, LOL)

In 5th grade, I had to get some cavities removed, I had about three (my family has always had teeth problems). When I went to the dentist, they told me I had to get FIVE teeth removed. The anesthetic had no effect on me, and four workers held me down, I was screaming, sobbing, writhing in pain, while this dentist drilled my teeth off of my gums.
So yeah, glad dentists like this guy exist.

I feel you on a molecular level. I had a tooth pulled right out my gum, while it was still a bit attached. Like 40% was still attached, it was painful, but at least it was quick (The dentist used their hands with gloves on to remove it). And I had more problems before like a cracked tooth, it was in right in the middle of to the corners of the tooth, I had to get an injection right IN my left cheek bone literally, I felt it go in and all, just to remove the fragments that were somehow still connected. And before that to my first ever tooth removal they put anesthetic but it didn't work (they asked if I could feel the area and i said no) and I just wanted to get it over with (and I was a bit socially awkward/a people pleaser basically) so I felt the moment when they took my tooth out and I was in so much pain but held it in🙂 (no tears, no sound, nothing)

I wish my dentists were like this ! I’m 22, in elementary school when I was about 7/8 I smashed my face on the gym floor at my school. I chipped one of my front teeth really bad from the impact, as well as making my other front tooth wiggly, and a few others. Was a truly horrible experience getting an emergency root canal, I remember the doctors injecting my gums with numbing stuff, but they never warned me so I lifted myself into a bridge almost from the pain and started screaming. Apparently they had to shut the doors to not only my room, but neighbouring rooms as to not scare anyone/other children. Meanwhile, my mom was working (single mom) she picked me up mid shift (she was a private home care aid, and would spend the night on the nights she was working, she wasn’t off until the next day) from school and had to quickly drop me off and then drive back to her clients house and try and get someone to cover and watch after the special needs girl she took care of. I passed out to the dentists talking shit about my hard working mom and how “horrible” of a parent she was for just leaving me there. She was right there when I woke up afterward. I understood what was going on. And I told my mom they were talking about her when I came too and remembered. It was an already scary, tough and painful experience to begin with. The talking shit part made me panic as a child even though I knew what was up as my mom explained it to me before she left and also obviously explained to the dentist/dr.. I wound up having to get a 2nd root canal done on the same front tooth a few years later, and somehow! I still have my original tooth despite being quite literally dead and hanging in my mouth lol. Occasional appointments to take care of any staining, as it’s dead and I guess dead teeth are like that? I’m unsure if I ever want a crown or anything because of that main and first experience with it along with the 2 fillings I’ve had for cavities since. None of my dentists have been this nurturing, and it’s really relieving and refreshing to see care like this being done. Dentists and doctors can be very intimidating for children especially if they’ve never been or have had bad experiences with a different one in the past.

  • @Jonnia17

I was terrified of the dentist for years because my very first appointment at the dentist they tied me down. I was freaking out I was like 6 or 7 idk. But I was scared and being difficult. Instead of just rescheduling they literally strapped me down and when I refused to open my mouth they pinched my nose until I opened my mouth to breathe and they shoved something in my mouth to keep it open. It was traumatic. And I didn’t get over my fear of the dentist until I was about 14 or 15. I pray no one has to go through what I went through. Im so glad that man was very kind with her. People don’t understand the effects they can have on people whether it’s good or bad. Much love to the good people out there.

We call my dentist the "no pain doctor". He is so amazing and Ive had some complex procedures like scaling treatment, root canal, and a bridge across the top 6 teeth (this took several appointments - some that took hours). He always made it comfortable and the time fly. He literally transformed my entire smile and I will forever be grateful to him. When he unveiled it, we both surprised ourselves when we started crying - he immediately excused himself to his office lol. It was a life changing moment for sure. He's about to retire and I'm so sad for that day, but also really glad he'll get to enjoy his golden years.

It takes a special kind of doctors to treat children. My daughter gets scared when I have to bring her to a see a doctor in the ER or going to the dentist. Needles almost sends her in a panic attack. Her dentist is amazing. He talks to her and shows her what he’s gonna use. The way he explains everything puts her a ease and calm her down. It’s a beautiful this to see.

I love dentists that act like this, it calms me down and truly go with their words. I once went to this dentist office and they where trying to pull out teeth, as you know it hurts and i was a kid, and i kid you not, this dentist held down my head and arm where i was almost falling out the chair, this dentist was also an old man. He was also rude to my mom because she was saying how it does hurt and how she feels my pain, and i actually felt a little better with her words, then the dentist started saying, that just makes it worse, and not helping at all. After that my mother was mad.(They had numbness stuff on my teeth but it wasnt working) We never went back to this dentist office. I do now have more anxiety going to the dentist because of this experience, Im happy with the dentist office i go to now, when i had to get the tooth pulled (originally supposed to be pulled from the other office) they turned on the mini tv moniter and put on a show and put pink headphones on me, and when i tell you i almost feel asleep, i did feel a little pain during it but, they told me the numbness would work and it did, they stayed true to there word, and made me relaxed during it and said i did good.❤
I also had a fear of getting teeth and shots lol
      (Sorry its long lol))
