    Good to know, mushrooms don’t all need compost to grow on. This guy really knows his stuff...very refreshing! Excellent video. Wonder if they also make their own compost? How close is that operation, to urban populations??
    That’s important information for our location, since local mushroom growers have been using industrial-scale composting of manure + straw, for years, to grow their mushrooms; it’s been he!! on everyone in a 1.5 mile radius of that farm, from the stenching, noxious, sewer-gas emissions; the company and officials have been routinely lying to public about the harmful H2S that is dominant in the emissions.
    Wonder if Crimini mushrooms can be grown on bags of sawdust too??

      Thank you so much for your comment. We are sorry we did not reply earlier! Phillips Mushroom Farm is one of the oldest mushroom farms in Kennett Square, Pa, which is about 40 minutes from Philadelphia. Because it's such an open landscape, I don't believe there are any issues with emissions, etc. From my experience, I believe the people at Phillip Mushrooms maintain the highest quality of ethics and concern for the community. I know that Jim Angelucci at Phillips Mushroom Farms would be happy to answer any of your questions that concern growing the mushrooms or effect on surrounding communities. Just tell him you saw this video. Thanks for your support!

    • @Chimonger1
      @Chimonger1 6 лет назад

      My concerns are about the emissions from commercial composting operations. We understand that all manure, regardless what creature produced it, emits what’s otherwise known as “sewer gasses” at the beginning of the process.
      That contains H2S, ammonia, methane, and other gasses.
      Also, wetted straw can emit waves of molds into the air.
      _What is the best method of preventing those kinds of noxious emissions, yet still getting optimal compost to grow mushrooms?_

    • @alexreinhardt28
      @alexreinhardt28 4 года назад

      No one anywhere grows mushrooms on composted manure. Doesn't work like that. Pretty much all edible mushrooms are wood lovers

    • @seancostello26
      @seancostello26 3 года назад

      @@alexreinhardt28 that's not entirely true, as button mushrooms, or agaricus bisporus, are industrially grown exclusively on manure. Gourmet mushrooms, however, tend to prefer wood, straw, coco, or other substrates.. and since they use waste product, there's very little environmental impact to it

    • @seancostello26
      @seancostello26 3 года назад +1

      @@Chimonger1 they're not "wetting" straw. They're pasteurizing it, to kill any molds.. it's a necessary step in the process, because otherwise the molds will outcompete the mycelium for nutrients. It's not releasing any mold into the air. And as someone else pointed out, these mushrooms are all saprophytic.. they love wood, not poo

    A lot of the comments on this video are absolutely horrid and ridiculously critical. She did a wonderful job in this interview. Some people talk fast because their brain works faster than average, or because theyre nervous. She took the time and effort out of her day to make a video for the public that is very informative. She is not doing this interview to be critiqued by incels on the cadence of her voice, her looks, or her word choice. I swear some of yall get so uncomfortable over intelligent, fun-loving women simply living their lives. Unpack that shit please, your baggage is showing.

I knew going into this endeavor that I wouldn’t be able to please everyone... I’m just glad that, for the most part, people seemed to find the material valuable and interesting. Hi Steven, I don't think the manager meant that mushroom is a fruit, but rather what logically classifies a fruit is that it is, literally, the "fruit" of the plant, or the part of the fungus that is born out of a stem.
