I just picked up an NOS of this exact bass this week. Yes, it's a Chinese bass, but it's 2/3's of the real deal for 8% of the price. I'm going to upgrade her, make it my own, and pretty happy overall.
Really gorgeous looking bass. I saw a video of another man on youtube. Who also bought a China Hofner and he also changed the strings and the control plate. And it sounded amazing.
I got one of these about 2 years ago and must have gotten lucky since mine doesn't buzz and the action and fret jobs was really good. My stepson got one about 2 years earlier and the quality wasn't as good as mine. I liked it so much that I recently got a Hofner 459 which is the 6 string guitar violin shaped model. It too was very good quality right out of the box.
hoffner style plywood tops go bamm instead of boom, through some vox/celestional curvilinear cone 15s or through pa bass bins they have an effect like a string bass, you have to be musical and caress the sound out of it, paul played with a pic. best strings, nylon tape wound.get an intonational Japanese bridge from a junk box at a luthiers shop.ROCK ON.
For better Beatles tone you should try the black tape wound strings from Rotosound. they are the strings Paul used on his 63 Hofner. you can see them in the video of the rooftop concert.
Also here again: your "dedication" starts with disregarding personality ! It is NOT A Haafner!!!¿¿¿ Why do English/American talking people not even respect the pronunciation of Names? -- ...and don't tell me your tongue is to blame!!! When you can say "BIRD" - you can say "Höfner" too. Otherwise it is ARROGANCE producing resistance!!!
Hofner and Rickenbacker would not be around if not for the Beatles. Hofner offers a tone. Take it or leave it. They're impossible to intonate. I bought one in 72. That was a mistake. On my Gibson, I'd cut the strings to replace them. I did that with the Hofner and the bridge fell off. It took hours to get it sounding half ass. By 75, I traded it for a Japanese bass. That was a great bass for the money.
I have & it's a different beast all together. I ended up being pretty disappointed in this Chinese made. If I ever buy another Hofner, it will be the 500/1.
Neck heavy and uncomfortable. Small neck. Sound cool but couldn't get used to it. Traded it. As hollow body basses go I'd rather a bigger body. Something to hold on to is helpful.
I felt the opposite. Light and neck stays put. I play classical style with my fender basses due to the weight. I also love the sound. A bit of natural sound instead of purely electric.

La mejor version de todos los hofner que inventaron. Ni muy grave como el presicion, ni tampoco muy pasado de agudos como los jazz bass
I am very sorry but I don't speak or read your language. I only understand English so, I am unable to respond to your comment.

I just ordered a white Hoffner bass and waiting for it to arrive. I already have the classic Beatle color one and i wanted a new look!

I own the Hofner ignition club bass. Not loving it, same components and difficult to intonate, up for sale. I’ll stick with my Fender Mustang basses.
I sold the bass featured here. If I ever buy another Hof it won't be a Chinese made cheapie.
Bought one recently straight from the shop, set up great, intonation great, play's great, love it.
The contemporary violin bass much better?
Hey I bought my Gretsch at Cream City Music!

Rickenbacker would still be around
You tried the Contemporary version?

It's a unique instrument that has its issues. Definitely not for everyone.
