+Sammy Lane: japan has the best arcades today. I watched a documentary on their arcades over there and they're so coooool. They have a sega arcade even.
+Sammy Lane: You can even play against someone in the arcade. For example they showed two street fighter ones back to back and you play against the person on the other one. There's more physical socializing that way.
Star Wars Battle Pod was the most popular game on the arcade floor at Dave & Buster's on New Years Eve last week. Never got to play it for the entire night because there was always a line outside the door. Also, Time Crisis 5 should've gotten and honorable mention, as it has HD graphics and uses the Unreal 3 physics engine, along with using a two-cover system (with two pedals) to flank enemies.
Good list. There's a million top games features for consoles on RUclips, and a decent amount for retro arcade games as well, but very few lists of the best recent arcade games. I'd like to see a list for even more recent arcade games even, like around 2010 for example.
Just as I expected, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune didn't land on the list. Sad thing is, at 1:08, you can see a Maximum Tune 3DX+ cabinet just sitting there.
Pretty good list, but Street Fighter IV is probably the most important arcade game of the past 10 years (definitely agree with DDR as number 1 of the past 15). It completely revitalized the fighting game genre and is still being played super competitively today.
One racing game, that i've never seen before is on the list. There's two popular ones I can name, that's still going strong, or has a large following. Initial D Arcade Stage (think there up to ver9 or something?) and Maximum Tune Wangan Midnight? Talk about a fun game, that also had a great 1v1/pvp setting where you can turn on or off the setting to have someone who joins the next cabinet to battle you while you're playing the story/time attack modes. And the soundtracks to each game version? Shits on anything on here with a 'good soundtrack'.
+javichuelas You should check out H2Overdrive. That was 2009 and designed by the some of the same people that created HT. Same style of play, modern graphics with some improvements on how the boats handle, leveling up, etc. Very odd for it to not get a mention here.
I hate when you go into a place, pop your money in only to find the light gun isn't calibrated, then when you tell a member of staff they just give you your quid back (if you're lucky) and leave. Gah.
I was literally jumping for joy when DDR got number 1 it was literally the only Arcade Game I spent so much money on man I miss those days with the big crowds behind you watching you play this game I'm glad I grew up at that so many good memories ❤️ I still play DDR when I get a chance tho I'm not as good as I was as a teen tho lol
What the gaming industry needs now is something that could be done on the arcade but not on consoles. That's what made "next gen" consoles exciting. Imagine a new fighting game in the arcade that was as intimidating as killer instinct was when it first came out. Have marvel, capcom, tekken, and king of fighters in one, 80 fps, new characters and a graphic processor that destroys both consoles and pcs. Could be a huge budget but it'll be dope. The reason why killer instinct was so popular was because it was intimidating. Nobody's seen something like that before and it couldn't be done on systems. We need that again.
It's a shame that F-Zero AX wasn't more prevanlent in arcades across the country during the Gamecube era. Between being able to take your memory card to the arcade machine to upload scores time records, to downloading a pass to unlock a cup only accessable with AX save data on your home version of the Cube's counterpart: F-Zero GX. This one DEFINATELY deserved to be on this list.
MvC 2 was so mind blowing when it first came to my GameWorks in Ontario, CA. I got chills when I saw Abyss's final form for the first time on a large screen. It's still a great competitive game to play and the port to home consoles was just about flawless.
I respect 3D, but am the more impressed with pixel art 2D. So Capcom's Willow is a good example as to appreciate pixel art to the best without it being too small is having a max res of 224 vertical pixels! SNES, NES, GENESIS, and many Arcade Cabs had it in the Golden Age of Arcades!
There was another Star Wars arcade game that I really liked. I was younger so I don't remember it but you held a joy stick and it let you fight Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker and also Drive a speeder bike on end or while shooting at other bikes.
I feel like arcades might see a rennaiscance when they are awesome again. You know when the technology used is so expensive but at the same time gives such an awesome level of immersion. As a primitive example the star wars battle pod. Imagine what 10 years in development of technology could leave us with.
I saw that coming too. Pump It Up is a superior game in just about every way, but its popularity to the general public just isn't as big. Maybe it's naming, availability, or that it didn't hit the home market that hard. The worst is when non-players walk up to it and think it's some variance or knockoff of DDR. Fortunately Dave & Busters give it the attention it deserves.
Although it was only released in Japan, which is why I understand it not being on this list, "Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senjou no Kizuna" (Gundam POD Game) is a FANTASTIC arcade game. Being able to sit down in a "pod" and have foot controls and 2 joysticks to pilot your mobile suit along with it being PvP with players throughout the country........ that game is just the best for anyone who even remotely likes Gundam. Would have been awesome if they brought it to other countries and had you fighting pilots from around the world.
+Romnys Gonzalez Initial D and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune were only moderate successes. I guess they can go in this list but Street Fighter 4 in the other hand is a different story
Time Crisis 5 (True Mastermind Edition) may be a little too new, but for my money, it's the best game in the series since 2. Surprised 3 and 4 didn't make it on here, though. 4 may be a little far-out with the plot, but it was still a good game.
Everyone, the Konami music/rhythm gaming division Bemani putting out the beatmania/IIDX/III series and their other spin-offs are the reason we even HAVE the No.1 here. Hell, beatmania IIDX is still alive today in IIDX 23 copula so the series is not going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention the specific spin-offs in GuitarFreaks and DrumMania are also WHY we have Guitar Hero and later Rock Band. Even KeyboardMania is reflected in the RB keyboard peripheral. These really are the only things Konami does best anymore.
DJDTHTRP I've been playing ddr for 15 years. I also spent a few years playing pop'n music. The bemani franchise has no rival. It's a downright Herculean effort for any franchise. I also love itg and PIU. The are the most unique games you will ever see. It's too bad that arcades barely survive here.
I was hoping midnight maximum tune would be on here but I guess not. It is very popular in the oceanic region from aus,nz to japan no matter what arcade you go to there will always be mt machines and alot of people on them its crazy addictive that game.
I agree you, when I went to the arcade, I always play the wangan game, since I play this game, I already used about RM400 (roughly $90-95) to customise my car. that game is the best.. (sorry my broken English)
Wow I guess my local arcade was the few that had a fist of the north star punching game. Was so fun had to actually punch targets to pull of combos, and block special moves.
The Star Wars franchise doesn't always have great games, but they never fail at great arcade cabinets. I still want the arcade cabinet where you play through the original trilogy if I ever get a ton of money.
Daniel Easyrhino Sweet, I might have to check that out! I wonder if the feeling of drifting will be as satisfying with a controller as it is behind the wheel, haha.
I hope I can order one for my arcade. but I already have so many deluxe cabs. Transformers, Jurassic Park & Alien Armageddon. idk if I can get them to drop another 30k on a game.
i actually played star wars battle pod last night for the first time. Its an awesome game, especially for someone who sunk hundreds of coins in the original star wars arcade game. Its a little on the trippy side though to say the least
Watchmojo you should now do top 10 home console arcade games. There are a lot of home console games that take inspiration from arcade games. like call of duty zombies. Arcade at its best
I don't think arcades are dying its just no one plates the new games. With an exception to tekken and house of the dead I myself see people sticking to the classics.
Here's mine 1. Pump it up 2. Dance Dance revolution 3. In the grove 4. Gutair hero 5. Mario kart arcade gp 6. Luigi's mansion arcade 7. Mario and sonic at the rio 2016 Olympic games arcade edition 8. PAC man battle royale 9. Percussion master 10. Fruit ninja arcade
the DDR player playing the doubles is a player named TAKASKE , hes one of the best doubles players in the world and would defiently recommend to check him out
House of Dead 4 was a game I thought was kind of underrated. Actually, the series in general is a little underrated. It is popular, has a lot of fans....but I just feel it's criticized for some things that are easily forgivable due to how great of an overall experience each game provides!
I liked the Lost World Game, The Giant Croc Boss.. Made me jump and hit my head on the ceiling of the car/booth, Loved it ever time, and it took aspects from the novel that were sadly lacking from the movie Like the Chameleon abilities of the Carnotaurus. So many Quarters I'll never get back.
DDR (only 4 steps) being more popular in America than PIU (5 steps) just proves America does not like a challenging dance game. Sorry if this offends anyone, but it's true, at-least here in the U.S. It's hard to find PIU machines in most arcades. Well, with the exception of Dave and Busters. They rock.
Glad to see Beatmania III get an honorable mention. but the Beatmania IIDX series is much better (and WAY harder!), still going and the latest version was released very recently, Beatmania IIDX 23 Copula.
I'm surprised the newer Pac-Man arcade game, the one where you go against your friends, wasn't on there. That thing is addicting, fun, and is colourful, so it draws people in. Plus, it's nostalgic for many people.
A movie theatre in Kamloops, BC, Canada used to have a DDR game...and, get this, it was the original Japanese version (the text in the demo tutorial was in Japanese) and of course the theatre has standard North American outlets so I have no idea how they managed to install it and get it going
My favorite arcade games are Marvel vs. Capcom, Need 4 Speed, Tekken 5, Dirty Driving a game from Dave and Busters, Batman also from Dave and Busters and some other airplane shooting game from D and B located in that large dome. (forgot the name of it)

+WatchMojo.com Don't get me all wrong here I do love technology but I do wish we still had arcades like back in the day.
There's more physical socializing that way.
what about the famous in most hardest, Terminator Salvation arcade game
epic fail again What About Time Crisis 2 Time Crisis 3 the lost world Jurassic Park so many classic arcade shooter games you failed again WatchMojo
Arcade games need a comeback. We cannot loose this type of gaming, there is nothing like using buttons and joysticks like they were originally used.
We definitely can't lose it
Good list. There's a million top games features for consoles on RUclips, and a decent amount for retro arcade games as well, but very few lists of the best recent arcade games. I'd like to see a list for even more recent arcade games even, like around 2010 for example.
Terminator Salvation and Aliens Armageddon and Transformers Human Alliance and Jurassic Park (2015) and Time Crisis 3 and 4 anyone???
same
Add Initial D and Wangan Midnight to that list. These 2 arcade games are still booming at the arcade with its fanbase and youtube videos
N house of the dead 4
+Jason Recio midnight 3 yesss
Jason Recio wangan arcade games hav killer soundsystems n r awesome!
Just as I expected, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune didn't land on the list. Sad thing is, at 1:08, you can see a Maximum Tune 3DX+ cabinet just sitting there.
My favourite one are Time Crisis and Sega Golden Gun... I spent so much money as a kid to finish those
Pretty good list, but Street Fighter IV is probably the most important arcade game of the past 10 years (definitely agree with DDR as number 1 of the past 15). It completely revitalized the fighting game genre and is still being played super competitively today.
L.A. Machineguns had to be one of the craziest rail shooters I've ever played
Has anyone ever realized that every arcade ever has the terminator salvation game?
I don’t think chuck e cheese has it
that motherfucker has ruined light gun games.
#1 better be that jet simulator from the air force museum we went to. That thing goes 360" and is a tonne of fun.
Great vid guys!
One racing game, that i've never seen before is on the list.
There's two popular ones I can name, that's still going strong, or has a large following.
Initial D Arcade Stage (think there up to ver9 or something?) and Maximum Tune Wangan Midnight?

And the soundtracks to each game version? Shits on anything on here with a 'good soundtrack'.
Yeah WatchMojo. Dance Dance Revolution sure tops this list. And its knockoff franchise In The Groove is very good too.
Nice List!
I didn't know much of these games but hey it's good to look at it
No Hydro Thunder???
"HYDRO THUNDER.... CHOOSE YOUR TRACK.... LOST ISLAND!!! CHOOSE YOUR BOAT...... BANSHEE!!!!"
+javichuelas That came out in 1999. Didn't even make that list because there were just too many good arcade games in the 90s.
DUDE THAT GAME WAS MY SHIT
"Choose your boat!!...YOUR CRAZY!!...choose your track!!...EXPERTS ONLY!!!"
And that engine revving was badass
+javichuelas That and San Francisco Rush 2049 were great. Should have both at least made the honorable mentions in the 90's list.
best game ever made
+javichuelas You should check out H2Overdrive. That was 2009 and designed by the some of the same people that created HT. Same style of play, modern graphics with some improvements on how the boats handle, leveling up, etc. Very odd for it to not get a mention here.

damn, watch mojo you guys actually got your shit together for this list.
DDR was hilarious to spectate in the arcade- great entertainment value. Lol.
DDR rocks. Great music and love how the game makes to get up and move.
Time Crisis 3?
i use to play the shit out of that game when it was in my swapmeet
i use to play the shit out of that game when it was in my swapmeet
+Ricardo Hidalgo Same here, every time I'd go to the movie theater, that was the first and last thing that I did.
I feel the same way, part of my childhood was spent playing that game
Best game ever
Star Wars Battle pod looks like a candidate for best Arcade machine ever. That wrap around screen looks epic !
What the gaming industry needs now is something that could be done on the arcade but not on consoles. That's what made "next gen" consoles exciting. Look up Killer Queen. Trust me on this.

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
Literally my childhood
+UndeadMarksmanX 90s list.
+UndeadMarksmanX It's on an earlier list and the next one.
The Force Is Strong On This One.
Jesus, this is your third Top Ten today and it's not even noon yet
Fuck you
+DoctaDaKing sounds like a prayer.
+Faminto Gamer such anger.
I'm *REALLY* glad Star Wars: Battle Pod made it onto this list. It's my favorite modern arcade game, no doubt!
I feel like arcades might see a rennaiscance when they are awesome again. You know when the technology used is so expensive but at the same time gives such an awesome level of immersion. As a primitive example the star wars battle pod. Imagine what 10 years in development of technology could leave us with.
awesome arcade list mojo :) my faves
I kinda figured Pump It Up would be left off of this list if DDR was gonna be mentioned. It's a shame.

I always try to find a DDR machine when i go to an arcade
it's literally the best experience you can have at an arcade
super props for bringing in ghost squad, one of segas greatest hits...
Initial D and SF4?
Yes the inital d arcade games are really fun
initial D... great game
initial D awsome
Wait there are Initial D arcade games
+Romnys Gonzalez Initial D and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune were only moderate successes. I guess they can go in this list but Street Fighter 4 in the other hand is a different story
Intial D and Midnight Wangan are really awesome arcade games...
There's also Silent Hill: Arcade, and Time Crisis 3...
Time Crisis 5 (True Mastermind Edition) may be a little too new, but for my money, it's the best game in the series since 2. Surprised 3 and 4 didn't make it on here, though. 4 may be a little far-out with the plot, but it was still a good game.
JustAGamer too cheapshot for my taste. Innovative but cheap.
I got to play Star Wars Battle Pod in Tokyo last month. That was really fun! The wrap around dome really sold it.
Very, very, very good!
Where the hell is Time Crisis?
+Crispy Bacon rambo???? virtua cop 3???
Daniel Easyrhino Meh...
=(
This is a list of new arcade, no old ones.

A damn shame.
Star Wars: Battle Pod - Holy SH-T!!!! Amazing 😉
It’s Too Bad That There Aren’t Any New Arcade Games Nowadays
Hell yeah, my boy House of the Dead is on here!
Justice, the 4 arm zombie is such a terrifying monster I've ever seen
Terminator Salvation definitely should have been on here.
Silent scope. One of my absolute favourites! I miss it so much
I was hoping midnight maximum tune would be on here but I guess not.
Yep, i'm from australia and maximum tune is my jam yo
It's also by far the most popular game in any arcade I've ever been to
The problem was not that arcades are dead but cabinets stopped evolving...🤦♂️
Ghost squad was my go to arcade machine after college :p
+GoldenGrego you can play it on wii
+Daniel Easyrhino Not as good as the arcade version.
Its better than nothing
Oh man, SO many quarters wasted to beat House of the Dead 4 and Aliens: Extermination... Totally worth, though.
Wow I guess my local arcade was the few that had a fist of the north star punching game. Was so fun had to actually punch targets to pull of combos, and block special moves.
Never played any of those. Sadly, the few arcades we have around here pretty much stopped updating their line-up 25 years ago.
The Star Wars franchise doesn't always have great games, but they never fail at great arcade cabinets. I still want the arcade cabinet where you play through the original trilogy if I ever get a ton of money.
The Star Wars Arcade Pod is really awesome but I think it would never be so catchy as a home console port.
F zero AX was awesome, Too bad it wasnt that successful.
yaaaaass
+Alpha X because you havents master it yet not to be mean or anything
I thought the controls were too twitchy and kinda ruined the experience.
I freakin' LOVE Outrun 2, but I can never find it anywhere! I set the highscore at the one place I did find the game ;)
+Jeremy Kane you can get it for your xbox
ps2 outrun 2006
xbox and ps3 outrun online arcade
3ds outrun 3d
Daniel Easyrhino Sweet, I might have to check that out! I wonder if the feeling of drifting will be as satisfying with a controller as it is behind the wheel, haha.
My local gameworks just got rid of their 4 Player Outrun 2 Cabinet. I now no longer have any reason to go there...
8:34: My God, what graceful movements!
i like star wars battle pods
+Wally Fernandez high five
I hope I can order one for my arcade. but I already have so many deluxe cabs. Transformers, Jurassic Park & Alien Armageddon. idk if I can get them to drop another 30k on a game.
i actually played star wars battle pod last night for the first time. Its an awesome game, especially for someone who sunk hundreds of coins in the original star wars arcade game. Its a little on the trippy side though to say the least
I still play HOTD4 whenever I get to an arcade
Watchmojo you should now do top 10 home console arcade games. There are a lot of home console games that take inspiration from arcade games. like call of duty zombies. Arcade at its best
Having been playing ddr for 15 years, I wasn't surprised that it would be no. 1.
"Lets go jungle"is one of my favorrite:)) u guys should find and try it:)) its a Giant bugs shooting game
Mordercai Near My childhood arcade game
I remember I really enjoyed the Jurassic Park III Arcade Game.
I ~thought I was the only one
If you're going to make a top 10 like this, please check out the arcades in Japan. Some of the games in here are purely here for nostalgia value
I don't think arcades are dying its just no one plates the new games. With an exception to tekken and house of the dead I myself see people sticking to the classics.
SF IV and TIME CRISIS 2 NEEDED TO BE ON THAT LIST SERIOUSLY.
That end clip was like the characters were subscribing to watchmojo when they got on the computer and said "we did it"!
MvC2 and DDR competitions were how we settled shit back in my day
Here's mine 1. Pump it up 2. Dance Dance revolution 3. In the grove 4. Gutair hero 5. Mario kart arcade gp 6. Luigi's mansion arcade 7. Mario and sonic at the rio 2016 Olympic games arcade edition 8. PAC man battle royale 9. Percussion master 10. Fruit ninja arcade
I'm only 15 and I clearly remember back when all we ever played was DDR for hours.
Silent Scope was a hell of a lot of fun! And Tekken 5 and MVC2 are a couple of the best games ever.
Silent Scope EX was my most favorite of all time.
the DDR player playing the doubles is a player named TAKASKE , hes one of the best doubles players in the world and would defiently recommend to check him out
no dark escape? that game had a great scary atmosphere, had a heart rate sensor, 3d, surround sound and air jets to really immerse you in the game
My favorite arcade game of this century is the Time Crisis Series (1-4 and maybe even more)
No Deadstorm Pirates? D:
+Wegra rambo???? virtua cop 3???
i know
I remember there was this street luge game I'd always play. You layed on a board and moved handles to punch and turn
+Ray Dean punch out????
House of Dead 4 was a game I thought was kind of underrated. Actually, the series in general is a little underrated. It is popular, has a lot of fans....but I just feel it's criticized for some things that are easily forgivable due to how great of an overall experience each game provides!
My favorite is Pokken Tournament. I know its a Japanese exclusive, but its really fun. Luckily, its coming for the Wii U on Spring 2016.
Arctic Thunder was one of my favorite arcade games growing up.
Operation Thunder was where the CHEF with a knife attacks the shooter.
Operation Thunder was the two player version that came after Operation Wolf.
Alien Extermination was a cool game, I always enjoyed burning the xenomorphs with the flamethrower
"let's play metal gear. FOR REAL" that cracked me up so hard back in the day
I'm surprised the newer Pac-Man arcade game, the one where you go against your friends, wasn't on there. That thing is addicting, fun, and is colourful, so it draws people in. Plus, it's nostalgic for many people.
Yeah you mean Pac-Man Battle Royale a family fun centre in Kelowna, BC, Canada called Scandia has that game
The list is pretty good, but another good arcade game is the Time Crushers series
can you guys tell me how to play these games on ps4 or pc
Try an emulator
You can't, except if they made a port of them for a console, you can't. You will have to play it on an arcade center.
I think Deadstorm Pirates should have been on this list somewhere.
(forgot the name of it)
u missed one arcade classic. time crisis
‘90’s arcade game not 2000’s so it didn’t make the list
Time crisis 5
