I was stunned when I heard this on the STR website the other day. I cannot believe the leaders of a Christian church would do such a thing. It left me stunned.

A host that thinks and believes the
Biblically way. I love how he addresses the question. No nonsense no backing down. I am known to be that way at times that i need to be. We have to speak truth. Thank you for your passion to do that.

I've wondered about the burning of incense in the Catholic church and thought it came from passages in the old testament referring to incense. I'm not Catholic but during my father in laws memorial service at a chapel in the cemetery where he was buried, the priest had a round receptical on a chain, filled with incense and burned it and swung it around his urn. It's possible the priest might have been Episcopalian now that I think of it. It was weird and I thought of it as more like shamanism. Any insight on that practice and is it a sign of syncretism in a church?

I’ll place what I learned in a separate comment. I think it will answer your question.

Thanks for the question! We invite you to call in to our weekly broadcast to discuss your thoughts with Greg Koukl. He'd love to hear from you. Or you can submit an #STRask or Open Mic question. Visit www.str.org/broadcast for details.

The Catholic church did some of this sort of thing when they converted the Celts. Local "saints" they could pray to who were just repurposed pagan deities or mythological heroes.

I was recently reading the Matthew account of the Gadarine demoniacs and thinking, based on the disciples' track record, this was probably a pretty terrifying encounter for them. Also we know the man or men was/were possessed by many demons and behaving bizarrely. So it's not surprising to me that the disciples could have trouble agreeing later whether there were one or two men.
I have been that sidekick at an event who doesn't get mentioned later, when it's being retold by others, and sometimes even if I claimed I had been there, some remembered and some didn't.
