Thanks. I was doing this by running both OBS and Windows Camera. But using two OBS instances is way better. Another top tip for syncing them... if using Davinci Resolve for editing, then have both OBS instances record your audio - and then use Davinci Resolve's multi-cam feature to sync both videos together. One of the multi-cam sync options is to automatically sync by audio waveform. It makes it super-simple. Means you don't need to do the whole clap and notepad thing.
It genuinely pains me how straightforward this is, and yet I didn't think of doing it. Thank you for this, it's tenfold better than the ultra widescreen method.
lol, glad I could help! To be fair, it would be nice if it were built into OBS to begin with. Not the most obvious solution until after figuring it out. lol
This man painted his whole corner green. Dedication. Also I hate when I am having an issue with something and I find a video explaining such a simple way to fix it, like why didn't I think of that?! Thank you for this!
Very Kool. Thank you Especially if you adjusted shortcuts in both instances so that recording starts simultaneously by pressing the shortcut. Also.do not forget to make the output of the instances into 2 different folders (to avoid any glitches)
I made that mistake and am left with a single .MKV file with only 1 video & 1 audio track. However, through VLC media player, I'm randomly able to play the hidden track by skipping forward and backwards. Do you have any suggestions for how I might be able to separate these into two different tracks or two different files?
An easy tip to sync your audio when you open the two separate OBS the first one that has your full camera on mute the desktop audio And just leave the mic audio. And for the second OBS which is capturing your game Mute your mic so it's just capturing the game audio. That way you have two separate audio for your game and webcam which you can sync in editing much easier. IMPORTANT NOTE ---> When you close OBS it would go back to default so make sure to mute them again when you record
you're a W man, so straightforward. thankyou bro, entertaining and informative tutorial. love the part when you mentioned how to sync both recordings. lmao, you just earned a sub
Handy tip for syncing the both recordings is to key bind a record button (settings -> hotkeys). After I pressed it, both OBS windows began recording and I didn't have to try sync the two :) Edit: make sure you set two different file destination.
What would be the best way of syncing the videos. Should the mic audio only be on the webcam recording and game audio on desktop. or should you record the mic on both and sync the waves?
Thank you but you can go to hotkeys in settings and but any key in start recording and anthor key to stop recording in same time so you don’t need to sync it every time
Do not do that, it doesn't work because the files will replace each other. Since they are recorded exactly at the same time with the exact same name. And it will cause OBS to glitch out, DO NOT DO THAT.
a better syncing method, if you're capturing your mouse, is to say "up down up down" while flicking your mouse up and down. that's what I do and it works perfectly. if your not recording your mic in OBS with the webcam, you can clap first to sync your voice THEN do the up down thing. anyway, thank you so much! my camera's SD slot broke (like a piece broke off of it and now i can't insert any SD cards...) so i have to start recording straight to my PC and didn't want facecam and gamplay stitched permanently because of how I like to edit.... this is so useful lol.
after all the times ive opened obs and got the message that obs is lauching want to launch another obs it never dawn to do just that and record my video capture, ive always hated using my webcam in the obs and not being able to position it later in editing software Thanks Mike!
Killer Man. Super Helpful. Another option for syncing could be to run another audio on the screen grab like the computer mic and make a loud sound that the waveform can easily be seen.
I guess for me doing reaction videos I would want my audio output device (headphones) to be on the screen capture recording and my mic to be on the camera recording? Thanks 👍
I'm wondering if I could open up a 3rd one to stream also while recording 2 other instances. I wanna stream with my webcam and gameplay but also have them separate so I can edit them and upload them to RUclips.
I forgot to make the output of the two instances into two different folders. I'm left with an .MKV file that only has 1 video & 1 audio track. However, in VLC player, I'm able to view both video streams by going back and forth. I can go to the 10 minute mark and I see/hear the gameplay footage and then if I skip ahead and then go back to the 10 minute mark, I can see/hear the webcam footage. So I know both did record. Does anyone have any advice on how I can separate these two video/audio streams into two different tracks or two different files?
I'm looking for a way to separate my camera from gameplay when I'm streaming. That would be a killer video if you figure it out! I know so many people trying to do that rn.
It used to work so well for me but now anytime I do it OBS keeps giving me an encoder error. The cpu is always at 3% on both applications and I have tried lowering the encoder but it has done nothing and I have no idea what the issue is
Both of my files are unusable... it says both are equal in length, but when i want to view them, they dont start to play and are just corrupted... what am I doing wrong?
Make sure they are going to seperate folders which you have to change every time you open both OBS’ it’s very important to note. I just recorded a 2 hour video and one of them didn’t save since they both went to the same folder
That’s why I click record one at a time and sync after. If you start them both at the same time they both get the same file name and it becomes corrupt.
Can they have different settings? And if you record your camera on one program, does it pick up the sound from your display? So that way one program records my camera and mic audio while the other records gameplay without picking up any other audio sources.
Best way I found to sync both obs at the same time is to set a recording shortcut. In both obs instances at the same key. If you just hit the key you start recording in both of them.

Because when I use the wide method, where one half of obs is gameplay, the other half of obs is face came, the green screen works by only making my background completely black. Idk how to fuse myself into the game afterwards
