Seems every race now is trying to connect with their relatives. All the info. you found about Tajiks in Xinjiang on the English websites are inaccurate. There are two different Tajiks in China, one is the 'Plain Tajiks' (closer to Tajikstans, and looks different from Pamiri Tajiks, they themselves could distinguish in no time) and the Pamiri Tajiks which are shown here are the majority. Population: The total number of the 2 Tajiks in China is 51069 (2010 census) compared to 41,028 in 2000 census. So their lives have improved quite a lot, although still poor: you can't change too much in a short time, otherwise the culture and bloodline will disappear, and they also get very depressed when lifestyle changes too much. Language: These Tajiks languages are Sarikoli and Wakhi. They also know Uyghur as Uyghur is everywhere in Xinjiang, but still keeps their native language(s) as they don't get along with Uyghur. Certainly, now many of them also know Chinese. Religious: Mostly Ismaili (Shi'a) but not devoted (they only go to the Mosque during Festivals, and from the video here you can tell they are not devoted). But they still preserved many traditions of Zoroastrianism as cultural traditions. Few of them are actually Zoroastrianists. They also have a lot of legendaries, and the one on the wikipedia is correct as recorded in a very important and famous Chinese ancient travelogue. Culture: this video is a good one. Others are 'Eagle flute' made from Eagle bones, 'Eagle dance' both of which you can find in this vid. The govt. also build a Tajik Cultural museum in Tashkurgan (see this 2 yr old vid below): Lifestyle: half herdsmen and wandering around, and half farmers (they have houses built by govt. on Pamir Plateau with electricity, telephone line, water, sewage etc). Many recently worked in other sectors such as small merchants as they live at the gate to Pakistan and the Kara Koram Highway on the China's side is very cool, and china is upgrading the roads along with railways to enhance the connection with Pakistan (Just do some research on China's construction ability and efficiency). Things I learned from travelogues in China: people saw some of them using cell phone to do messaging, nomadic people using solar cell panels to generate electricity for short-time usage. Check the market in Tashkurgan in this very recent video below. Note the people talking, playing cell phone and students wearing school clothes. v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNjk1MzMzMDcy.html Personality: They are VERY hospitable and warm. Generally, they want to live the old way of life, although with changes happening rapidly. The ones visited China's big cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong etc) always have some other thoughts... Guess the contrast is too big. Education: I think all the kids now are in school receiving both modern and ethnic education. I am not quite sure about the details but I do know all the kids that visitors can see go to school. Genetic lineage: they don't marry out, and usually marry their cousins (I hope the situation was dramatically improved, and it seems the case in this video). They are discriminated by Uyghurs. They certainly look waaaaaaaaaay different from Uyghurs and kyrgyz, and the Pamir Plateu is 4000+ m high, and they are wandering around herding goats. So it is safe to say their bloodline is quite pure. As most of us Han Chinese try to stay away to preserve their lineage and culture, although we rank them as the best-looking ethnic group in China (check the number of good looking people in a population of 41000 with high UV radiation, wind and coldness etc on the "Roof of the World"). Mountain Tajiks and Tajiks from Tajikstan: of the same origin and clearly connected, but culturally, linguistically and physically different. Tajik Chinese regard themselves as Chinese and has been so for very long (we have ancient written records), and from the legend in Wikipedia, you can tell they think they are descendants of Han and Sun God. They are actually more patriotic than us Han Chinese. However, certainly as the economy keeps developing, and they get to know the world more and more, they will be jaded, but we hope they won't lose their lineage and culture. Bottom line: although our govt could have done some calculated tricks to make sure they won't deviate from China, their lives are getting better and better, and it is to everyone's interest here to preserve their culture and lineage (they are kinda pandas in Chinese netizens' eyes). Personally, I feel our govt. doesn't need to do some bad tricks as they are indigenous Chinese and not devotedly religious, and the economic changes are enough to change everything, which everyone here try to prevent...
How do you know so much about them? And where did you get that they're often more patriotic than Han Chinese or they think they are descendants of Han and Sun God? Not trying to troll, but would like sources, and genuinely am interested. Thanks in advance.
by looking at them by assumed they r not practising islam without realising the hijab is islamic and you think they follow zorasterism bloody fireworshipper pagan..🐵
I Dont understund Some stupid people. If these people think that they are Pamiri they would say to journalist that dont call us Tajik we are pamiri. They say that we are tajik and the place we live is pamir. If you think you are pamiri it is your own opinion no problem. But don't say all people who live in Afghanistan China Pakistan are Pamiri. They are original Tajiks. I know a man who is from Pakistan and he speak very well Tajik language with dari and Persian dialect.
They're Pamirians. Pamirian has been divided into 5 countries such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Eastern China, Pakistan, Afghanistan. At this time they have been registered as a Tajiks in their pasport.
@harbin88 exactly - Tajiks and Uygurs are different. And these people don't look like ordinary Tajiks. I am sure they may have Tajik ancestors but these people are greatly mixed with Turks and Mongols. It's not even their facial features, look at their cloth and look at traditional Tajik cloth and you will see difference.
These are tajik people , Tajiks who have been influenced to some degree by the uigers and other Asian groups around them genetically as well as other ways . I guess that’s why some look Asian and some look more European and mind you Tajiks who are a collection of eastern Iranic tribes coming together are supposed to have originally looked way lighter
They are NOT Tajiks at all. They are Wakhi people who are recognized as “Tajiks” in China. As Soviet Union categorized ethnic groups all over central Asia Chinese communist regime also did the same in China, however from appearance, culture and language they speak they are actually Pamiris not Tajiks.
