This was great! So informative - a lot of my questions after learning about this change were answered. I did get the impression that the cheapest way to pull this off and get 1080p is by adding a Zoom Sessions subscription. And I took it to mean that Sessions is “in addition” to the Pro Account cost? Also, does Zoom Sessions include Webinar capability? That would be cool, or is that Webinars another stand-alone add-on subscription, too? Thanks for all you do, Cat.!
An interesting interview. First we were intrigued by the novelty of remote presentations and learning. Then it was a necessity and now I think we are coming to realize its limitations and effect on learning. My experience during the pandemic was a 15 to 20% drop in measurable learning outcomes and I think I am not alone in this experience. I have fibre optic, 1080 camera and can also incorporate a Portal and OBS. The challenge today is that in a remote presentation it is not the presenter's equipment but the receiver's. What's the point when your presentations are being participated in with cell phones by people eating dinner or lying in bed? What is primary; the presenter or the learning outcome? PS: the audio of the interview had a warble.
Hi Cat, this sounds great but confusing. It would be great if you could summarise the option and cost for a single user. Plus do it yourself for us to see the difference.
Had to go to Zoom’s website to find pricing. If I understand correctly, I’d have to pay $99/month or $990 annually to get 1080p. Too steep for me given my light use case. Pity. And let’s consider that this video presents hope that there’s now a way for the single license user to get 1080p. True, but…you do have to pay for it and that cost is steep, and you’re not just purchasing 1080p but a package of features you probably don’t want or can live without. Why not just strip it down to a reasonable price strictly for enabling 1080p without all of the other bells and whistles? If I’m missing something here, please let me know. Thank you.
Last year, I stopped using OBS (within Zoom) for enhanced presentations, over this issue. 'Enhanced' meaning video is superimposed over your presentations, instead of simply sharing your screen. I'm a paid Zoom user, although I don't what the point is of being one, other than the honor of supporting Zoom corp. At this point, Are you saying that we can stream in 1080 now, or, is that another round of subscription increases? I can't be the only one who is (highly) frustrated over this.
Does the 1080p increase also come if one takes the pay-per-attendee plan? That would mean USD 100 per year ("Sessions" PPA for 50 attendees per year). I could live with this (although USD 100 premium for a standard resolution level is steep).
Am I missing something about the issue with virtual cam resolution? I currently do my webinars using OBS, and sharing the obs projected screen which shows myself as well as my PowerPoints, and dont use the virtual cam feature to share my presentations at all. I'm wondering then if there is really a need to even use virtual cam and try to bump up the resolution? Sorry if I'm barking upnthe wrong tree
Does anyone think 360p or 720p have anything to do with modern standards? It’s embarrassing! Many of us were anticipating Zoom would finally come through with 1080p as standard for the PAID pro account - but no - more nickel & diming coming our way. 😢 😡 No wonder so many are looking for, and leaning towards, alternatives to Zoom. C’mon, Zoom - stop bundling 1080p with ‘features’ we may not want or need - just include 1080p with the Pro subscription.
Yay! So cool that Zoom is making something that could be so simple, so unbelievably complicated.
..I think a video comparing zoom, google meet, skype, streamyard, etc, would be a good video..
And Microsoft teams, and FaceTime just to throw those in there
Wow Cat! Very well done.
Two of my absolute favorite people in the world!
VOD! This sounds great for some of my clients. Thanks for sharing Cat
That is ridiculous that they want to charge for outdated 1080p. I have the paid account but rarely use it due to poor video quality.
90’s Microsoft called… they want their crappy, customer-last business practices back.
Thank you Cat, very useful information!

Two of my favourite video peeps. 🤓
Who thought starting at 360p was okay?

I'm interested in better resolution, but I'm afraid to look at the pricing.

@1:15 - no prIcing
And hey, is the 1080p thing already launched?
