With the Airforce setting, bleach blonde fighter, and the original theme they wanted to use (ken's) sounding almost identical to the chorus medley from Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick which is on the Top Gun Soundtrack. Give it a listen sometime, the resemblence is uncanny.
the most amazing thing about this level was how it told a story without words. an f-16 in the background, servicemen spectating, guile with his camo fatigues and dogtags; probably an american airbase somewhere in asia. this was an american soldier who dedicated himself to martial arts and was proud to represent his country in the world martial arts tournament.
I will sometimes sneak this song in on rotation in the kitchen at work when we are really in the weeds, and without even noticing it you can tell all the other line cooks pick up the pace and start knocking out tickets as fast as they are coming out of the printer, plating absolute dimes like ballet dancers performing their most beautiful dance at the gates of hell. Before I knew about Street Fighters story I just thought this theme was just epicness incarnate. Still is. But the moment I learned about Guiles partner, Charlie and what happened. I know now that this song has more sorrow and determination in it than I realized.
Funnily enough, Guile's character and stage is based on Top Gun, and Cheap Trick did a song for the soundtrack of that motion picture. The composer of Street Fighter 2 created what became Ken's theme from that song in the movie.

Ken's theme was originally going to be used on this stage, which sounds like "Mighty Wings" from top gun, but they feared a lawsuit so didn't.
Why is that? This is an F16. They were flying F14 Tomcat in Top Gun.
