    Great job, but I can't help but wonder, why not using masks and the airbrush for the main pats of the speeder? It goes a LOT faster, the finish will be even and masks are easier to control than paint on a brush.

      @Sorastro  5 лет назад

      Thanks Kojak0! I'm sure using an airbrush would indeed be easier, and your question is a good one! I prefer to stick to using a brush in my videos however simply because the majority of my audience don't own an airbrush :)

    You are an artist. As such, I have a question. Why a dry palette instead of wet? I see some of the best painters on RUclips choose to go with dry palettes, and have always wondered why. I'm going to search through your video library to see if you've covered this topic. If not, I'd love to get your take on it. I am subscribing and turning on notifications, as I can learn a lot more from you.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  5 лет назад

      Thanks Don! I do sometimes use a wet palette, and I don't really have a massive preference for either system. If I'm working with a more complex model (like the KDM minis) where I'm mixing a lot then I might use a wet palette, but for models like the Landspeeder I find a dry palette is fine. :)

  • @MariusBehrends

    Lovely paint job, really well done and super informative. One question I have though, is how do you get, even your watery paint, to cover that well. I often have to work in layers because my paint wont cover the surface of the figure very well. I am obviously priming the figure beforehand.
    At first I thought it was just my colors being old but even with newer paint I tend to have this problem. (Its not every paint though but I couldn't discern a pattern yet).

    Yeah I need to repaint my landspeeder toy and was super curious how you'd go about those lines. Turns out you freehanded it. No way I feel confident enough to try that:(

      Hey! I'd suggest using masking tape to mask off the surrounding areas; that should make things a fair bit easier :)

    Been wanting to ask on all of the vehicle tutorials that you’ve done, and sorry if I missed this in the video. But when doing the basing, did you do anything to outline the front and rear arcs on them?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  2 года назад +1

      Hey Chris! Yes - I think I covered it in one of the earlier vehicle videos, but I used to use a ruler to imprint the firing arcs, but more recently I prefer to just avoid the lines when I apply the basing paste. 🙂

    Just wondering, is there a difference between VMC Cold Grey, and just the VMC Grey Airbrush Primer? I bought Black, Grey, and White Bottles for my Airbrush, and I just wanted to know if I'ld get a similar result if I just used Black, then Grey for the Zenithal Highlight. Would appreciate your opinion!!

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  4 года назад

      Hi! The Cold Grey actually has quite a warm tone, but really you could use any mid-tone grey when applying the zenithal highlights. I'd only suggest that if you're using grey and white primers on top of the initial black prime (rather than the Vallejo Model Air paints) that you add some thinner so as not to built up too thick a layer of paint. :)

    I found the Gorilla Glue applicator you mentioned on Amazon. What glue (and applicator type) do you recommend for small figures and parts? I've always had horrible luck with Super Glue in terms of excess glue and generally messy application. Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

    Another question: have you worked with Fantasy Flight's official SW Legion paints yet? I'm curious to know how using them might affect the processes you've used thus far in your videos. For instance, would a single color (examples: Rebel Camouflage, Fleet Trooper Blue, Imperial Walker Grey) replace some of the mixtures from other brands you currently use to achieve the same tones and effects...or are they essentially just base tones to use as foundations? Obviously the techniques like weathering and shading would remain the same, but as a complete beginner at this hobby I found myself wondering whether the SW Legion paints might in any way ease or expedite the process.
    At any rate, I really hope you'll do a tutorial at some point utilizing the SW Legion paints and comparing them against how you'd approach the same project with other brands (especially with regard to mixtures of different paints to achieve a given color/shade). I get the feeling there's plenty of room for improvisation and personal taste involved here, but it could also be hugely beneficial for those of us working on a limited budget to get the most mileage per dollar spent.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  5 лет назад

      Thanks! I think the secret really lies in applying multiple thin lines; non of my individual lines are actually all that neat, but the cumulative effect allows us to get something pretty neat in the end (look at how many times I go over the central line on the bonnet!) :)
