  • Today's guest is one of the biggest stars of the Balkans. From making music for Serbian director Emir Kusturica's movies to composing for Iggy Pop, his unique mix of gypsy brass band beats and orchestral sounds, tinged with a rock accent, have brought him international acclaim. He talks to Jade Barker and France 24's music critic Mariam Saab about how he started off playing in strip clubs at 17 years old, what it was like collaborating with Iggy Pop and why he's attracted to gypsy music.
Also on the show; Mariam takes us through this week's music news from a hypnotic release from The Black Keys, to the political lyrics of The Kaiser Chief's new album and Wu Tang Clan bid to put music into museums.

It is always a pleasure to hear Goran speak. He is an intelligent, articulate and thoughtful World Citizen. The first 5 minutes of this video, however, are a total waste of time. Not only do these two ladies prattle on inanely about absolute trivia, related to other artists - they don't even LOOK at Goran to acknowledge his presence for 5 minutes of their chit-chat. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL Cut the irrelevant crap preceding the point at which Goran starts to speak. From there on there is interesting content - related to the title of this video. i.e. Goran Bregovic.

You're right, the only chance we get to see him speaking in english in an interview and they cut him out like this, so rude :/ wish at least they would have apreciated the person in front of them, ohh and Goran always so nice and humble :)

Vibrant music. Goran has a large body of work behind him. Just check out some of his great rock blues guitar work in his band Bijelo Dugme. Amazing.

Bijelo Dugme is the reason why I learned Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. When I heard Selma, I knew I had to learn the language.
