A lot of people have come up with some very good and cheaper alternatives. Alternatives are wicks wrapped round the burner, using jam jar lids, tea lights and the lid of the burner. Also just warming it by hand. Check out the other people's channels for their methods as well. Thanks for all the suggestions and keep them coming.
I came up with an alternative to this that almost cost nothing, weighs nothing and is always on the burner. It’s on my channel but it is essentially a piece of fireproof wick (I think for vapes) that is sits below the jets and rests on the lip. You put a very small amount of alcohol on it and it sufficiently warms and ignites the reservoir after a few seconds on the coldest of days. Had mine fitted for years. It’s in my Outdoors playlist if you’re interested.
Hi, thanks for the video. The video is about the attachment, but you spent the first half of the video talking about what you used to do, then spent the last half talking about the attachment but then never even lit it so we couldn't see the process of fueling the attachment, how easy it was to handle once lit and get in position, and how long it lasted - all those questions were in my head when you finished up the video - going to have to go and watch someone else's to get those answers, but everything else was great :)
@@techvillage Thanks for the constructive criticism. I will take it into account but it is difficult to please everyone every time and it will take time and experience to do so.
That is an excellent idea. I've used the burner lid with the o-ring taken out before as well. Keeping the burner in your sleeping bag at night is another one but it can get a bit crowded with yourself, your water filter and a trangia burner in there as well.😂 For basic stampings, Trangia do charge premium prices but they still make them all in Sweden unlike many other manufacturers that have moved out of Europe. A piece of stove door rope wired into a ring to fit on top of the flange. Store inside burner and soak when filling. Fit round the burner and light and the stove will self ignite when heated.
Interesting accessory for the Trangia burners. Darn , I had to go to the 4:40 mark to get to the subject matter. 8 minutes to watch 4 minutes. That is one BLACK Trangia. None of mine look like that and I have used them a lot ( Years ) but the only fuel I use is Denatured Alcohol.
@@Oldsparkey It is an old burner. I've been using Trangias since the 80s. That one has had methylated spirits and bio-ethanol in it. Thanks for watching. Sorry if the content wasn't to your liking. It is difficult to please everyone.
@@NorthernMIPathfinder Brilliant. Just what I was wanting to know regarding pronunciation, thanks Now to get rid of 40 years of pronouncing it wrong and upsetting Swedes👍
Good Question. The burner nests in the winter attachment and they both then fit in the kettle or pot. It is seen at 6:58 in the video. You then just slide it down to the bottom groove on the burner to use. However, when it is slid up to the top groove the burner and attachment will be too thick to fit in the burner hole. (@7:07) It just needs moved down to the operational position.(@7:13) I keep them both in my Trangia 27 kettle. I will put up a short vid to explain it better if you want.
@BrokenBackMountains Thanks. I was on about the plate shown at 4:05. I'm pretty sure that doesn't fit in the kettle, but does it nest inside the pots/windshield?
@@davefloyd9443 Ah, sorry, my mistake. The plate is a larger diameter than the base and windshield. It will fit on the outside but is not ideal. It will not fit inside like the pots and is bigger than the frypan as well. If you want it all neat and compact the multi disk would be better. The winter attachment doesn't touch the plate so wouldn't melt the multi disk. I carry the multi disk to protect the frypan as I replaced the one that came with my 27 with an anodized one. I would only put the plate in for a snow trip.

I just use a small jam jar lid with a bit of meths in it under the burner as the attachments are rare and expensive in Aus.
