    The problem of CBDCs is right in the first letter, "Central".
    With CBDCs you do not have money anymore. What you have are some kind of government vouchers. Those can turn into rationing permits, tips for "good" behaviour or become blocked funds if you're"not compliant" with whatever the government du-jour dictates, from left or right.
    The alternative is almost 15 years old now, and in the first lines of its paper it explains it all, you need a way to transact peer to peer without the need of intermediaries. That right there is the complete opposite concept to a CBDC.
    BTW money IS a bearer asset. Everything else us just credit, IOUs.

    Several times it was said that doing business this way was difficult and costly leading me to get the feeling the best practices will only be for the wealthy and powerful.
    Very telling towards the end when they talk about inequality, egalitarian programs, and taxes.
    Some parts remind me of robber Barron's.

    Is the DAO and decentralization harder to understand than the welter of tax laws and regulations and their implications today? As a budding entrepreneur I think not. And the regulatory, not to mention ESG push, is getting more and more extreme. I personally believe that building a Parallel Economy on untraceable crypto, smart contracts and strong privacy practices is our best hope to retain and strengthen freedom or even preserve how much is left of it. So regardless of level of difficulty comparisons to we have a viable choice going forward? Do we have another way to live as free as possible and to have anything close to actual free market economy?

    The problem with crypto is it's volatile. Easily shifting value based on 'whales' mass buying or selling. There needs to be a crypto which is based on resources which do not shift that much in value over time. It's not just individuals who own Bitcoin. Corporations and governments have a ton and shove around the value (with buying/selling/comments to their followers) just to further transfer funds between the normal person to those on top. Unless that is somehow prevented, it's just a fancy stock.

    • @imthestein
      @imthestein 9 месяцев назад

      Volatility is due to where the backing comes from so the issue isn’t the crypto but how we’re backing it

      I think the problem with discussions about Crypto is that people cannot separate discussions of the technology from the markets that built up around it. If you want to say things like Bitcoin or whatever are a scam you’re probably right but that’s not talking about the technology then

    I know Naomi and many on this panel understand that crypto, especially privacy coins, are only one tech and type of practice needed to escape or at least minimize the Total Surveillance that is being woven. I try to be a solarpunk and believe the market will simply chose less friction but then I see what the State is doing including its attacks on crypto and even on encryption. So I have my lunarpunk side as well.
    What is "illicit"? Is it that which is actually ethically wrong or is it merely what some State objects to or cannot control and guarantee it gets a cut of?

  • @LabelsAreMeaningless

    UBI seriously? He basically asked if failed and harmful projects could be brought to the future systems made to avoid those past problems. UBI requires high taxes. It's given by governments so of course they have control of your funds and how you spend them or if you keep getting them at all. People need to break the habit of systems which give governments more power over people. If not for the current tax levels, people would be taking home a ton more money. There isn't a wage crisis there's a tax and union crisis (as they take most of your cash and do very little for you)

    Dear Naomi, you expend a lot of energy warning us about technology and yet, here you are promoting it. What am I supposed to think about that? I had a great bit at the beginning, but I wasn't sure if it was appropriate in these times of turmoil (must be a seed oil!) and downside up cake. Do you have a sense of humour?

    • @NaomiBrockwellTV
      @NaomiBrockwellTV  9 месяцев назад +1

      I don't want people against technology ever. I educate people about how technology works, so that they can make informed decisions about the kind of tech they allow into their lives. Not all tech is the same.
      Keep an eye on that seed oil...
