Some Strong Language
At the final homestretch after the eye poke machine the contact beam with the special upgrade on the secondary fire is the best weapon to use because it freezes your foes. Just secondary fire and run, secondary fire and run. Plus you will be able to destroy the final boss easilly. Funny thing is that this game is 6 years old and still holds up even today.

Yeah a fully loaded contact beam makes the game almost to easy.. Also like the Seeker Rifle and Flame Thrower....

Beat this last month. One of the hardest challenges I ever faced. My saves were chapter 5, chapter 9 and lastly chapter 12 before the drill ride.

I loathe the drill section. I don't know how I'm gonna get through that part. I'm thinking of saving at chapter 10, chapter 12, and then 13.

I somehow got softlocked in one of the church dementia rooms and didn’t use a save lol. This game makes you play the beginning at least 10 times on hardcore, What a kick in the gooch
Dead Soace 3 had only an auto save system. Dead Space 2 had manual save points and checkpoints but in hardcore for Dead Space 2 you could only save 3 times and there were no checkpoints.
Zealot is "more difficult" and I put that in quotes because enemies take more damage and deal more damage but you still get checkpoints and unlimited saves. It's a good way to prepare yourself but the whole 3 saves only thing is what gets you. Try doing zealot without saving more than 4 or 5 times to prepare
Charles also practice certain parts. If you know a part gives you trouble and you keep dying a lot at it, just hit a checkpoint restart and practice it a couple of times on zealot.
If you beat hardcore first and get the handcannon (foam finger gun), Zealot is a cakewalk.
Actually, After chapter 7 you get unlimited saves.

@@EnchiladaMan007 not in hard-core. I beat hard-core on my first try and I was only able to save three times. There's no unlimited saves after chapter 7 in hardcore unfortunately
I am playing this right now, and I wanted to add something I just found out to the tips.... You can kill a leaper AUTOMATICALLY if you shoot one of its arms off while its on the walk or ceiling.

I’m a cheap asshole. Here’s some DLC-free tips.
1. Putting a node in a Weapon’s capacity refills ammo.
2. You get a free HP refill when you buy a new suit, or install a node in the RIG’s HP.
3. Loot bodies ASAP. They disappear after a couple more enemies die. If you can’t stomp it in time, it’s worth it to shoot a body, using something with cheap ammo, like the Pulse Rifle.
4. Console and Controller users might want to avoid the Seeker Rifle, Javelin Gun, and Contact Beam. They require precision, which is hard to do under pressure. (Contact Beam Alt fire is decent crowd control).
5. Saves are very personal. The first is the hardest, because dying in the early chapters is common. Some get sick of repeating them, so they save earlier than they like, like chapter 4. When I first beat Hard Core, in 2013, I first saved at 7, before the tripod elevator. Now in 2021, I’ve done 2 successful runs. Once at the beginning of 5, by the mausoleum freezers, and the latest at 5, just after the Gravity Rings machine puzzle.
I was sick of dying and repeating, too.
I’ve noticed that I die very infrequently in the middle chapters. Getting to the second save was much easier. Same with the third. It’s really overcoming the first chapters that’s the hardest.
6. Weapons are also very personal. I used Pulse Rifle and Line Gun in 2013, and my first 2021 run. I equipped the Contact Beam just for the ammo drops, to fund buying nodes, with its expensive ammo.( I had enough nodes I upgraded the Contact Beam for chapters 14, 15 and final fight, but it wasn’t crucial. )My idea was to have 2 powerful guns, rather than 4 so-so ones.
I just finished my second 2021 run today. This run was Pulse Rifle, Line Gun and Ripper. I definitely recommend this trio. The Pulse and Line can handle it all, but the Ripper pushes things over the top because of how much better it handles certain situations. Like the Pack or Leapers. It is also extremely ammo efficient if used well. I think I might have made more credits using it as my 3rd weapon, than keeping the Contact Beam as a ammo generator.
These weapons also do extremely well under pressure and for controller users. They don’t require good aim.
If someone wants to include the Force Gun, as a way to knock over enemies that get too close, I wouldn’t complain. But you’ll be spreading you ammo thin.
7. Choosing Early node upgrades is so hard. I get my second RIG HP node in Chapter 3.
It takes 2 damage nodes for Line Gun to one shot non-Enhanced enemies. If you have a weapon that needs to overcome a hurdle to be more effective, prioritize that.
Stasis was a much bigger priority in my 3rd HC run. Going for 1 duration and energy ASAP really helped. Then once I had some damage and hp in place, getting 1 more duration and energy. I also found doing that that I had a lot of extra stasis packs to sell, so the earlier nodes paid for themselves. Stasis makes the Ripper and Line Gun timed mine so much better.
8. Try and Stomp/Melee/Kinesis enemies to save ammo. Use the green loot boxes offensively, as they knock over enemies. Hurl one at an enemy, stasis, then stomp. Stasis isn’t always required, but much safer.
Kinesis is magnificent. Get comfortable with it. Upgrading RIG Kinesis damage was worth it to me. You can one shot non-enhanced enemies. Save a lot of credits.
9. Catch Pukers long range stasis spit using Kinesis and toss it back, or at other enemies, for a one-shot kill.
10. For the 2 instances when you have to shoot the tripod that’s got a hold of you, in the settings menu for controls, select crosshair to be Center instead of Classic. This makes things easier.

@Lordpoopsy bloody force gun is from a dlc pack and costs you 0 credits in the store, you can start using it in chapter 1, and the only difference i remember is an increase in secondary fire. it tells you in the store where the weapon description is.
i followed your guide and i only ended up dying once, i also finished it within 5-6 hours.

Great video. Have every achievement in this game including the DLC. Beat the game 6 times before i tried Hardcore. Died 1 time and luckily saved right before it because i remembered the part being hard... best advice i have is to learn every enemy spawn in every area so you know exactly how to prepare

That's what I did as well on Zealot but they don't allow you to New Game + on the hardcore difficulty
Hardcore is mixed difficulties. Enemies will deal survivalist difficulty damage but the ammo, health, etc. drops will be zealot difficulty.
One thing people don't know is when you use a dlc suit, the 15 inventory slots actually increase. I know that sounds funny but for me when I bought the vintage suit ,which has 20 inventory slots, and switched back to the dlc suit, it had 20 inventory slots. I was confused and surprised.
this is what i plan on doing. play though the game a few times to get a ton of power nodes, upgrade all of your weapons, then start up Hard Core mode.

@eddieliusa I explain in the video how I did it. I used only a plasma cutter and a force gun, knew what was coming and when in the game, and a lot of patience. Saved in chapter 4, 10, and 13
@Prodotype2 my stasis was fully upgraded by chapter 4, and everything else was more evenly upgraded throughout the game with a slight advantage to the plasma cutter tho. force gun was my secondary cuz ammo is cheap to buy if you need it in a pinch
be patient and try another secondary. line gun perhaps?

1. Yes, basically on 4 sets of playing so plan out where you want your 3 saves.
2. If you mean the contact beam, yes it's good, I just preferred how the force gun handled groups of enemies.
3. I had about 250 rounds of plasma cutter and it was fully upgraded, along with my stasis. Basically is just keep him from getting close and you'll be good. Use stasis containers when you can
@Lordpoopsy force gun because the ammo is cheaper the buy. you can buy 3 rounds for 900 vs 1 round for 2000 for the other. plus the force gun doesn't need to charge to shoot
I dont know about getting dlc to make it easier, i would rather play it just by how it was meant to be played. thanks for the tips though, i was just buying guns all the time and i didnt have enough credits to get health or ammo :3

Don't know why you have that update info for the xbox 360 saying there is no 2nd disk checkpoint because I just played last night and died on the 2nd disk which gave me the 2nd disk checkpoint and my game is updated
I'm playing through at the moment and I'm nearly done. I'm using a slightly different strategy to you, I kinda wanted to see how other people had done it. And I think it may be worth mentioning that they've patched the free checkpoint on the disk switch. Just thought people may want to know.

@Lordpoopsy Yeah and if you watched the whole video the gun wasn't upgraded for shit. I had it fully upgraded by chapter 13 in my hardcore run. Upgrade every spot in the force gun first and then you can use nodes to upgrade the alternate fire, best way.
@Prodotype2 Well they wanted to make a challenge in the game since you could do zealot on new game + which zealot is techinally the hardest difficulty. My best advice is beat the game a couple times so you know when the enemies come and how to deal with them.

is the force gun good to use against stalkers?...im good at killing necromorphs but my only problem is stalkers...they kill me like crazy i hate them alot nd i always use the ripper but it doesnt work lik if my stasis has ran out
It's funny I have been working on this recently and was able to use the disk swap free checkpoint trick playing on X360. So was it definitely patched?
ahhh...i saved at chapter 6..went to chapter 9..and died of somthing stupid i thought i had enough distance but a the exploder was actuly close enough i shot his sack which i thought was uneeded due to the ammount of red barrels was about and it killed me...from chap 6 to 9 i had fully upgraded stasis and rig from hp and my plasma cutters dmg was fully upgraded and it had its special with 2 cap upgrades and need 1 more reload upgrade and speed upgrade :L

@Prodotype2 Exactly, stasis and the plasma cutter were my first upgraded things. Had to beat the first game only using a plasma cutter and it was easy as pie.
My first attempt was last night, and i keep dieing at the tri-pod point, which im going to practice and learn were the enemys come from, but i was told that the finger was definatly worth it. (Sorry for mistakes)

Hey man, very nice video. Do me a favor and please explain to me why you used the force gun, because when i used it in my first play through i thought it was booty, do you have to upgrade it completley for it be wreck? Because right now im going through on zealot and im thinking ahead to my hardcore playthrough right now and im using contact beam and it destroys everything. So im just trying to get some tips for the force gun man, cause iv heard from other people to use is also.
u know what only stupid people cant think by there self easy to beat this game on hardcore is run from enemys if u dont have alot bullets. some doors are open and u can run easy way.

@MetalHeadGrace If you have ever downloaded an update then its possible that you can't get that free checkpoint. If you didn't then you probably still can do it, but don't count on it lol

Can you like get to the final boss and switch difficulty on another file?
I've already used used up one my saves on hardcore I still got 2 saves left. I got killed on the train because I ran out of ammo fighting the brute at the end of that sequence. I'll have to try again later I do have martial law DLC.

@shadowsen91 The only thing you can do is load up the first save and go from there or completely start over. Thats how hardcore was intended to be, make you nervous and freak out because of cautious you had to be. Sorry man

I now have the 360 version of this game. I heard you used to get a free save at the disc swap, but at the start of this vid it says it was patched out. If I delete the patch and clear the cache and play offline, can I then get the disc swap game again? If so then after the disc swap and at my next manual save around chapter 10 or so, can I then update the game so that I can get the time stamp when I eventually get the achievement, or should I just stay offline?

Any of the DLC suits are good. It depends what you'd prefer. Because there is plenty of health around, I went for the suit that offers a bonus to stasis duration. Got the full 100% completion the other week. Truly one of the best games around and a very proud 100% completion to have on your list.

Not to boast but I'm really good at the game. As a first time attempt you want to aim for chapter 4, 8 and then 12. From there the end part is very easy. Its all about knowing when to fight and when to run. Look at the video guides on here, some of them are great for hints & tips.

I used the bloody force gun which came with dlc. Used that detonator ammo cheat. Buy detonator for free from shop etc sell the ammo after disarming ammo and use money for nodes.
Eventually I got the foam gun and when I upgraded console from 360 elit3 to xbox one s the foam gun went with the save file so I didn't need to play dead space 2 again on xbox one s
Game is hard on hardcore but worth it for foam gun. Think of it as a rite of passage. Good luck
I saved at chapter 6 for the first time because by that time i was scared shitless and i hate the church area of the game lol.
I played dead space 2 until I knew every single spawn possibility, every single line of dialogue, every single reload animation, every single button I need to push. All enemy attack patterns. All enemy damage on each difficulty, every power node schematic and semiconductor location. And every boss weakness and exploit. I am ready for hardcore.

Enemenies deal survivalist damange and and take survivalist damage. Your supply/credit/goody drops are all of zealot difficutly. Like the most i remember getter in ammo drops was a a stack of 3 plasma shots and 2 force gun shots. Totally try it though, So worth it, makes the game scary again
I just finished hardcore and it wasn't easy. I died many times but I pushed on. Contact beam and Force Gun is the weapons of choice for the last part on chapter 14 and 15. The Contact beam is highly recommended for the last boss. Alt fire and primary fire constantly and you're set.
It's the limited saves that really makes it difficult
The tension yes but I had trouble with the insta-death parts where if you screw up, you don't lose health, you just die.

I don't know then, seems awkward. Anyways good guide, I actually just beat hard core and wasted my 2 saves before chapter 8. So I was basically sweating bullets the whole time until I saved at chapter 13. Then killed nicole with the plasma cutter in less than 30 seconds which has definitely have to been a feat lol
I actually never mentioned that in my video so I'll happily answer it. Yes, in my game I would hardly take damage ever so what I did was store all my health packs I wasn't using in the safe, unless it was a small one which I usually sold later on in the game. If you are always having more health than what you need, you are doing it right.
The force gun can push enemies back then switch to another gun to kill them so pretty much it helps

ive heard the enemies are weaker on hardcore compared to zealot is that true? i wanna get the plat i have it for the first game but i hate the idea of only saving 3 times i;ll get more dlc if need be i love the force gun best gun in the game in my opinion
@shonenrai nope even if you complete zealot you can only play hardcore in new game took me a year to get the trophy bro if youre not patient and have anger problems do not i repeat DO NOT attempt hardcore.
Hey man I have a couple questions:
1. Would I have a better chance of longer survival if I commit Nodes mostly to my weapons or my RIG and Stasis?
2. Which guns are recommended for Hard Core mode?
Upgrading stasis is one of the most important things to do right away. I waited on my rig and plasma cutter until stasis was maxed.
what if you run out of ammo i ran out of ammo right at chapter 5 and died and i restarted the whole game.
5 years late, but uhm, yea, sell all of your weapons but the plasma cutter, buy plasma cutter ammo then whoa.
EpIsaace Alvarez 6 years late but uhm yea try to practice on zealot and work on ammo conservation. Use the plasma cutter, and if you have a secondary, use the pulse rifle or the contact beam. To conserve ammo always looks for those metal rods that can be used to impale necrobois and also use the puker spit balls by catching them before they hit you and throw them back at them. This trick also works on spitters (slashers that spit acid). Look for explosive canisters and stasis ones as well. Also, don’t forget but you always have stasis to use as well. Slowing the enemies down helps a lot.
I know this is really late. but I recommend doing the infinite node glitch in ch. 1. Was able to fully upgrade my RIG, stasis, and my PC. Use dlc weapons if you want to make it easier, forged PC, and bloody FG is good with bloody vintage suit or the forged engineering suit (the gray one) for the health bonus. I currently have my 1st save at ch. 11
