When I started making the film (2012, 2013?), everything was clone wars and prequels at the time. It looked like that was the direction they were going with Star Wars, and it didn't look like we were getting any Imperial star destroyers of TIEs or any Empire material any time soon in games or films of TV, so I just sort of did it myself. Took all the material I could from the TIE Fighter game, including the briefing room, ship cockpit details, capital ships needing to be within 2.5km (I think?) to start using the big guns etc... though maybe I did go a bit far with the Macross missiles on the TIE Bomber! Interdictors were a big part of my strategy in Empire at War so I had to have one in there, and I wanted to show the shields on X-Wings since we know they're there but don't normally see them. Just nerdy details like that. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, Eck! I might be getting a decent graphics card soon (this PC can't even run Dishonored 2 on lowest graphics settings) so maybe I'll fly with you in Squadrons!
You did what Disney should be doing right now. It was just amazing, to me especially since I love Imperial stuff and OT is my favorite era. Saw your video about 4 years ago first I think. I still go back to it regularly! Legendary work.
I love all the little details, most notably the fact that all of the Aurebesh translates perfectly. The Imperial ships even have names which can be read off the screen in the briefing room: ISD Exterminator ISD Violator Int. Inhibitor
Stanley Leonard Darmali That’s so cool. As someone who translated the lego Star Wars helmets (with aurabesh letters) I can say that it’s not really normal when those things can be translated perfectly.
@@Neptune-or4vm I love translating lego stuff as well lol. Sometimes it actually does work (e.g. the controls in the UCS Imperial Shuttle) but with things like those pilot helmets it does not.
Regarding the TIE Bomber - In the original TIE Fighter game, there was a series of missions under (then) Vice Admiral Thrawn, where you are forced to defend a station in a TIE Bomber, simply because there are no other craft available. You do get advanced concussion missiles though. Those were nasty. IIRC in one of the briefings/debriefings, it's even mentioned that Thrawn was impressed on your performance with the bomber, even though it was doing something it was never meant to do - dogfight.

seeing as how love for star wars is what inspired the anime space opera genre (Gundam, Macross, Legends of galactic heroes), seeing star wars space fights animated in that style is kind of really cool. Its like seeing what the animators of the 7-80 always wanted to make.
I've always hoped that otakuking would get some official support from lucasarts. A series or film with this style and attention to detail would be a dream come true.
I would have loved having this expanded into a web series of like nine 10 minute long episodes to tell a complete story - something like the original short form Clone Wars cartoons back in the day.
It's been over 25 years since we got a game where you play as an Imperial and don't switch sides to the Rebellion, other than strategy games in which you play both sides.

I went wild seeing this! Star Wars: TIE Fighter was, and up until now still is, my favourite game of all time! And, maybe because I´m a 501st TIE Pilot...
The Tie Fighter movie is the best videogame adaptation I've ever seen. He actually made it feel like the real gameplay of the game. All the fighters and missiles move just like they have the same speed and weight as in the game. And I don't know how many times I desperately tried to pull up to shake off an enemy like that X-Wing pilot. :D
Yeah, this blew my mind when it came out! Has vibes of 80's anime with the art style and shading, and LOVED the details...from the cockpits ripped right out of X-Wing and Tie Fighter video games to the Interdictor's appearance. There were SOOOOO many great moments here! Would love to see Lucasfilm hire this guy to do a show!
From my perspective, the only lacking thing in Squadrons thus far is that there is no retractable targeting computer to lock missiles and torpedoes (which is done great in this film). The X-Wing VR mission even had a retractable targeting computer (though it wasn't actually functional) which would have been sick in Squadrons. To have it functional in Squadrons using VR would just be amazing. Also wish the enemy combat display was used to identify and target-lock lasers with the corresponding shrill beep (like in the movies) as opposed to a targeting reticle on the windshield.
This tie fighter anime short film is quite impressive and well done. I remember I saw a version of it using rogue one and battlefront 1 audio footage to make it feel more similar to a star wars battle. This film should be used to introduce new fans to the star wars fandom.
I'm going to be listening to TIE Fighter's music whenever I fly in Squadrons... it also goes well with The Dauntless in Battlefront 2. Also I have accepted this as Canon for years.

It’s 100% focusing on the multiplayer. The market for multiplayer games is just so much bigger than that of single player games. From what Eck has said, the story will probably be good, but I doubt it will be anywhere as in depth or long as the older games.
Peter Donlon that’s true sad because you can make a good multi and single player game. That’s lost potential. I would love to see an updated tie fighter and then add multiplayer to that.
