  • 68 miles of backpacking adventure in the Cascades. While not easy to get to this area its beautiful and well worth the effort. Natural beauty, wildlife and views that make you say wow! Glacier Peak was visible almost the whole trip.

I've always wanted to go to Holden Village! The Evening Prayer we always sang at LOL was written by Marty Haugen for Holden Village evening prayer! The trip looks so hard but beautiful. Way to go! :)

The trip was amazing! Holden Village is a unique looking place. Like a old European mini village. Our bus driver was the pastor. I think everyone has multiple jobs. We helped unload all the baggage for the guest in addition to the supplies before we started our hike.

      Mark,
You are correct on both counts, but that’s what made it such a rewarding trip!

Another great video. I've never hiked in that section of the Cascades but done some up in the Northern Cascades near Mt Baker and along the Nooksack river. Funny but I found Mica Lake where you camped. I sort of guessed it based on the trail shown on Google maps and someone had posted a 360 degree image view of the lake, but it's frozen over at that time. The air is so clean up there, just feels great to breath! It was also interesting seeing all the fallen trees. I guess it takes a while for Forest Service trail crews to cover the area after storms.

Chris - I have spent so little time in the Pacific NW but it is amazing place. Keith who I backpacked with in this video has hiked in the area around Mt Baker and I am hoping to join him in the future. Amazing you were able to find pictures of Mica Lake. The hiking season is not very long so it doesn't surprise me the picture you found showed ice on the lake. There had been some storms earlier in the season which included some straight line winds. We originally started counting the number of trees we had to crawl over or under but it became impossible to keep track because there were so many. I can't even image being in charge of trying to keep the trails clear. Another video early in my attempts to capture an adventure so some of the video is a little rough but hopefully people are still able to enjoy.

Jim it was a great trip. I still can’t believe how beautiful Washington state is. It was an added bonus to see bears!!!!

What animal was that at the 9:00 mark?

Douglas that is a Marmot. Marmots are large ground squirrels and can be found in Asia, Europe, and North America. They tend to be found in open mountain meadows and plains.
