Chap youv literally been my medication! Iv been smashed by some autoimmune condition over the last couple of years & your videos have seriously helped me get up & moving so much so that I'm fully recovered today other than some muscle wastage. That butty got me itching for some fresh whiting so off I went to Holland on sea, great night. Check out my first video, would appreciate it. Thanks again
Eddie Edwards thanks for the kind words, glad I could be a glimmer of hope during some tough times, I've just got back off my hols hence the late reply, I'll check out your vids when I get a minute mate, all the best, Paul.
Took my 5 year old girl fishing in Southend last night, whiting there in numbers . Used this video to cook them up for the kids today , clean plates all round so thanks very much and look forward to your next video 👍
Great your back ,enjoy your down to earth videos ,I'm on the kent side of the estuary I do a bit of catch and cook from me boat and off the beach too ,keep up the good work .
So glad you are back! I do a lot of foraging and always watched your videos, and then you disappeared. I found you again through the Fish Locker 😊 which is also an excellent channel. Welcome back 🐟🐚🐡🐙
Lovely! I wondered if all that rain was the result of a hurricane that recently ran up the east coast of North America then headed out to the Atlantic. Years ago when poor old Percy the weatherman could not seem to get it right, my Uncle George, who lived in Shoreham, did. He would look at what weather we were having in Canada knowing that in about a week, Britain would get it. I’ve never had whiting but my Mum had it when she was a kid and loved them. Thanks for showing us your cooking method and posh name for fish fillets. You’ve got a lot of class old boy. Cheers, Colin.
Cheers Colin, whiting are just like small cod, they're not to everyone's taste but I love them & as for the weather, I know most of the weather we get in the UK is from the West so it's possible that we get the remnants from North American hurricanes blowing across the Atlantic, it's not the first time I've heard that but this terrible weather we're having lately is from the jet stream which carries most of our weather patterns, when it's to the North of the UK all the bad weather's above us but when it's on a lower latitude & we're in it's path we get hammered, it's a pain in the neck, I wish it would go away!!
So glad you're back, Paul. Can't tell you how much, like so many others. I've missed your stuff. You're an inspiration, mate. Keep up the good work and good luck!
Once again, nice video Paul and those Whiting brought back tasty memories of successful south coast fishing trips. Beautiful bass too. Shame about the weather we're going to get a few days of wet and windy weather with 15' to 20' waves hitting us as from tonight so, RUclips viewing for a day or so whilst recouping from yesterday's kidney operation. Work is the curse of the fisherman!
Looks tasty off to the coast in a couple of weeks have caught lots of whiting before never tried them this has definitely changed my mind. Cheers for another great video ,pete.
Another great one Paul! You really didn't look happy on that beach mate and I knew exactly how you felt been there loads of times but at least you got a nice bass a few Whiting, I can't say I share your enthusiasm with Whiting but that could be because of all halibut in my freezer mate! 🤔😋😂🤣🎣👍
Here's a tip, just season the flour & whisk with water so it's like a thin batter ,dip the fish then breadcrumb (no eggs ), you can do it twice if you like crispy.you can add grated onion & any spices you fancy (works a treat).
Excellent vid mate as usual. I always keep legal whiting and cook up the fillets similar to that as sandwich fillers. I freeze whole whiting also for a good summer supply 👍.
Lying in bed and suddenly have a craving for fishfingers 😇,great video and thank you for your precious time,I’m sure work will fly in and you can get back to fishing and foraging once more.
Night fishing can be very productive but yep a real bugger to film in lol. You got some great fish there, I used to love eating whiting when I lived n Oz. And I'm having some snapper and terakihi (top eaters) fillets in panko for tea tonight. Great effort Paul! 👍🏾
There's quite a few fish that I love to eat but a good feed of freshly crumbed whiting hits the right spot each and every time. I would not have the sweet chilli but rather just the lemon squeezed over them. If I was to have chilli it would have to be sriracha sauce. That whiting looked amazing Paul. Michelle
Hi Paul , not bad video considering the weather at least you made a go of it . I fully understand how you were I'm the same here in Ireland ( West ) poxy rain all the time can't do nothing unless you fish in the cold rain . Hope to see next time mate .
Another great hunger inducing video mate, I'm always impressed by what you cook up from the things you catch and find along your shoreline. We could all learn a bit from you I think! Hope the long shifts dont keep you from the fishing and editing for too long! 👍🎣
That's all I ever used to catch up here in the North during the winter( except Coley/Billet). I used to throw them back as my ex used to complain about the bones. After watching this, I now have a respect for the fish and when I finally get round to fishing again will eat my catch. Oh, incidentally we call the cod that swim amongst the Kelp "red Indians" up here due to the red tint to there scales.
Fran Rowe wouldn't mind catching some coley down here but I'll settle for the whiting, I caught a beautifully coloured kelp codling from Loch Etive a few years ago. Give the whiting a go if you get the chance, they are a bit fiddly but well worth the effort!!
All that excessive rain will improve the number of earthworms I'll collect as bait. My tip is to locate them underneath logs and rocks. The heavier they are, the deeper they press into the ground, hence the more likely you are to find worms.
Tell it how it is. Great. Made me hungry watching this vid. Out on my small boat from Brightlingsea tomorrow. Hope I can land a few and give them the breadcrumb treatment. Good luck fella.
Nice one fella :o) You are braver than me!, I have been trying to get to the coast for a bit of bass lure fishing for a few weeks but its just never ending rain and flipping more to come too. Keep up the good work, really enjoy the videos = the whiting rolls look yummy ;o)

Liked and subscribed..November onwards was always great for Whiting in Crouch estuary South Fambridge.I live in North Devon now but I felt nostalgic .Used to catch dozens of decent Whiting and give them to neighbours. Do you ever fish the Crouch? If so have the stocks of Whiting held up?
neil hellens thanks, the Crouch is my local sea fishing mark although I don't fish it so often anymore, I used to have quite a few videos of me fishing & foraging on the crouch on my old channel but sadly they don't exist anymore. The last time I fished the Crouch at South Fambridge last November I caught a hatful of whiting, probably 20 or 30 fish with around a dozen takers, they can at least be relied on to put a bend in your rod these days now that the codling have done their disappearing trick from Southern waters, check out my Maldon oyster festival video, at the end you see me & my youngest son swimming in the Crouch at South Fambridge!!
