I've been trying to think of an equivalent event to John Cook's unexpected retirement. The closest I can think of is Barry Sanders from the NFL. He was in a league of his own and carried himself with dignity and a quite demeanor. He left the game with more in the tank but left at his peak instead of hanging on well past his prime.

However, your emotional and physical relationship with Harper has undermined the volleyball team, the captain’s, a failure of leadership ( I think you are ignorant about how); possibly responsible for the best team not winning the championship.
