  • Welcome to the "Notta Miata" series!
    Ok, so the thumbnail is a little mellow dramatic...but there is some truth behind it. Watch to find out!
    Today we swap out a few dead bulbs...1 Xenon and 1 Daytime Running Light on a 2004 Mini Cooper R50.
    Links to the parts I used:

    It's nice to have a video where i can hear and understand what your saying.
    "The Stealer" sees "Sucker" every time we pull in.
    Please keep posting the Mini videos. ❤Ultramini in OK.

    Thanks a mil, after taking out the headlight bulbs and not being able to figure out how to pop the replacement back in, your video solved it. I only freed one clip, which is enough to gently pull out the bulb but impossible to put one in. The 2nd clip looked like it was unmovable until I checked your vid... sprung it open with a pair of pliers and voila! :D

    Great video, best one I found to do HID bulb install. Thank you! I did not D/C the battery....and I lived.

      Bill Wiesen I’m glad you found the video helpful. I try to be cautious when I release a video. You can leave the battery connected, but I would hate to feel liable that one time a viewer gets shocked following any of my instructions. Thanks for watching!

    Appreciate the effort to get a good camera angle under the bonnet, really easy to see what you're doing.

    Great video. Bought from the link in the description and put it in. For me the driver's side was out but realized that it's not the same color temperature as the other side. I believe my car came with D2R 6000K bulbs which are bit "colder" looking. Unfortunately I like that look better so I might try again with another brand

      Yeah I really like the Mini. My wife picked it out, so it's to her liking. If I picked one, it would be a manual trans and either an "S" model or a "John Cooper Works (JCW)". My inlaws have a JCW Countryman, and it's awesome! The BMW is really nice, but kinda boring. I would much rather drive my Miata.

    Nice video. Just for 100% safety you should leave the car for 30 mins after you disconnect the battery to all any capacitor that may be hanging about to discharge.

    Easier to remove fuse from F8 and F12 location in engine bay fuse box. And dont lose clock or stereo settings by removing battery terminal. Although I've changed 100's of xenon bulbs, never disconnected anything and never had any issues 👍

    Can you show us how to change the fog lights on a mini? I've got a 2006 and I'm not sure how to get to the bulb. Haven't seen any videos for my year of car on this.

  • @untotlps
    @untotlps 4 года назад +1

    You should clean the Bulb before putting it back in. Oil and dirt from your finger will make it burn out again really fast.

    great video. I have the following problem: I replaced the xenon headlight. 1. I turn on the ignition. I turn on the light. I start the engine. .... everything is ok... all lights work. 2. I turn on the ignition. I start the engine. I turn on the light. ..... a xenon headlight doesn't work!!!?? do you have a solution?

    It’s high voltage, NOT high current, the manual shown evens says that on the page shown. The igniter generates about 400 volts

    Hey quick question . I have a 2003 mini cooper . I have balusters on my headlights . So when i start car n it runs for like 10 mins when i turn headlights on it stalls . How can i solve this problem . Thank you for any help .

    • @BecauseMiata
      @BecauseMiata  3 года назад

      The first things I would be checking are the strength of your battery and alternator. If the alternator is weak, it will not handle the heavier load with the lights on. Many auto parts stores will test this for free. They roll out a cart to your car with test equipment.

    I don't know if your car has a special set up; but what you're calling a "day time running light" is really the parking light. As it says on the package for the replacement bulb.

    I have a 2006 MCSa and have had the same xenon since new.

    • @BecauseMiata

      This one is a 2004, and it just went out this year. The Xenons last a long time, but just like all bulbs, they eventually burn out. The good news is that they are fairly easy to replace. I made this video to show the average Mini owner that they do NOT need to take it to the dealer to replace this type of bulb. Hopefully, someone finds this useful.

      Mine is same color as yours. They were always advertising "white roof" thing and then they changed their brochures my year. Who knows, but I liked the black roof. Ordered mine new and loaded with all options except JCW which was a lot of money and the Aero add on body kit. My interior is black with beige and red plastic on the dash and the door circles. I like it.
      I figured out how to change my trans fluid and have done way more to it.

    I have Cooper S R52. My Xenon housing looks different, there is a black plastic ring in addition to the bulb and ballast. A pity, I can't find anywhere a guide and I can't reattach it myself.

    • @BecauseMiata
      @BecauseMiata  5 лет назад +1

      I used the Mini Mania website to look at the bulbs that they sell. You plug in your year / model and they will tell you what is compatible. Some items they sell have a guide, but not all. Worth taking a look at.

    • @dereksmith3933
      @dereksmith3933 5 лет назад +2

      it took me a long time to get my "plastic ring" back on. you just need to look at the other side and see how that one goes on and compare. I had to put the ring on without the bulb just to see how the ring went back on, once I found out, i put little marks on the ring and on the thing it screws on to. don't touch the bulb, or any bulb on the car for that matter, with your bare fingers replacing them. your finger oils will make the bulb burn out 10X faster.

    my 2010 has the headlight on the body, instead of the hood, guess you don't want to slam your hood too hard with the lights in the hood.
