Percy sledge was a great singer! He never got the recognition he deserved especially for this song. This performance doesn’t show his full potential that he really had.💗
Turd Ferguson actually I haven’t tried again, I’ll have to get to it. Been so busy here with crazy stuff going on. I was allergic to the dye in the face mask & both eyes were almost swollen shut & rash under each. Been using ice pk for 3 days, finally getting better.
This was a huge hit. Technology wan't that great back then, the studio track might be better because it has probably been digitally remastered. This is such a soulful and heartfelt song.
Yes I agree, the audio on this recording is quite poor quality. There are much better studio audio versions available. I imagine the difficulty for someone making reaction videos, is that they can't select which video to react to, by first looking at and listening to different clips to see which would give the best audio/visual experience, because they have to give an authentic first time reaction!
scentials Same here! It’s an interesting phenomenon. My mum is 92 and suffering from rapid onset dementia. She can’t even remember who I am, but last time I visited her I showed her a clip of Elvis (her fave singer) and she remembered his name. Music has great power. 💖💖☮️
I know how much you love live performances, but please listen to the studio version, it's what made this song so great, and so many of us fall in love with Percy 's gift.
Mr. Percy was a family friend (in Lake Charles, LA). Mr. Percy loved my momma’s cookin. You really have to hear: Cover Me Dark End of the Street. This is Louisiana R&B
Percy Sledge and Wilson Pickett were the SOUL singers back in the day!!!! They RAISED THE BAR!!! If singers don't sing or have that kind of emotion in singing....they are not good singers!!!! You got to hear his whole album then you will really know....many singers are inspired by Percy!!!!
Back in the 70s, I saw Percy Sledge in Concert in Meridian, Miss. He was just amazing. I talked to him and met his wife, they were just as friendly and down to earth. I have always felt like he never got the recognition he should have for his music. RIP Percy Sledge! A true legend!❤❤❤❤
This song came out when I was 12. Just when we were starting to notice girls and crushes hung heavy in our soul. If everyone was asked what was truly their favorite song of all, many would confess that this is it. You might check out the studio version. When his time came to be shuffled into the busy recording studio, they were running late and there was only time for one take. The words were not even all written out on the sheet of paper he held. He winged it, making it up as he went. But this was his shot for the future and he put all the emotion he could muster into it. He has been handsomely rewarded ever since.
@@thelil Actually I did not like Brother Louie. The "melody" grated on my ears. But the other songs on that album (About Us) are lovely. e.g. "Words", "Love is in Motion", "Darling", "Please, Please" were ahead of their time. I hear riffs that sound as if they were lifted by Cat Stevens, Boston, The Grateful Dead. Hey. Wait a minute. thelil ! Could this be The Lil of Musicians On Call fame?
The Great Percy Faith was Dope!!!! One of the gods of Soul Music along with Sam Cook, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and Sam & Dave. He raised the Bar!!!
There's NOTHIN, I repeat NOTHIN LIKE "When a Man Loves a Woman"💗 Yes my Brother, Percy is "sangin" He'll give up ALL his comforts 💯 There's NOT A SINGLE thing better in this world than "When a Man Loves a Woman" 💕
First slow dance with my first real boyfriend in 1968. Brings it all back! The power of music! We were a lucky generation when it comes to music. This grandma is loving your program.
Mum used to say there are three types of love in our lives. The one where they love you and you don't love them back. The one where you love them and they don't love you. Then the rarest one where you both love each other, and can't imagine your lives without the other person in it.
This song is one of the most honest expressions of what it means to truly love someone, possibly someone who doesn't love you back. Just a beautiful song. Perfect.
Honestly, I think you should listen to every thing he has done, as well as every different recording of each song. Mr Sledge was a wonderful, humble man that I met in 1993. Right after I lost my mother. He invited me in to his dressing room, shared a drink with me and went on stage. He dedicated this song to the memory of my mama. I know dear Rosa feels lost without him since he’s passed
Percy was working at a hospital in Alabama when he recorded this song. It was his first time ever making a professional recording, and it went to no.1.
He worked with some of the Swampers and Donna Jean Godchaux before she ran off to San Francisco, married Keith and became a vocalist for the Greatful Dead. Percy passed away but Donna Jean is back home, living in Florence Alabama and still singing!
Nobody has put the feelings a man has better than Percy. He conveys much more than words when he sings this. I've been married 36 years now and this song rings truer every year. I play it for my wife occasionally.
On this song ALONE Percy Sledge is SOOOOOOOOOOO underrated. not only does he deliver a great live performance but he hits such astonishingly high notes in the process. Wow, Percy like you said had an inner passion. I probably saw this before but credits for posting this because so many others have covered this to the point they claim it their own. I can feel this man's soul when he sing. He is something special, wonderful of you to bring it to light.
Thank you for playing the original song with Percy Sledge that is my favorite on the 60 some year old white woman that is my most favorite Love Song in the World by Percy Sledge and nobody can remake Percy Sledge I'm sorry
Percy grew up just a few miles from here he lived on the south side of the Tennessee River. We lived on the North side. Watch the Music Documentary, MUSCLE SHOALS! Percy was in it quite a bit. One of the best music Docs ever!
JV! This is as deep and wide as Soul music goes! We’re talkin bout wailin ur blue heart 💙 out LOUD under the sky and in the fields tellin ur truth or beggin for relief!! RAW!! LOVIN EYES CAN NEVER SEE!! Damn! Truth! This is also when a performer could still afford a good horn section! Miss those times!
Saw Percy Sledge live in South Africa in 70s when we lived under Apartheid. He played at 3 Arts Theatre ... one of the only theatres that also had shows for "non-whites"....probably not on the same night, they might have had mixed shows, but one of the few places in Cape Town that put on shows of black musicians to white audiences. I still remember the date I had. His father used to market a hair growth lotion and had a small ad in the local every day for the lotion, a photo of a lady with crazy luscious hair, we used to laugh at. I LOVED Percy Sledge. Still have a CD of his best hits.
His son Howell was very young when this came out, so he went on the road and didn’t see much of him, but later shared a very loving relationship. On his death bed Percy told Howell to always dress well, smile, and give people his very best on stage and in life. Howell is a personal friend. He absolutely does that. A beautiful person. He performs his dad’s classic songs and other classic covers with his own band, down in Muscle Shoals. Proud to know him and hear about his amazing dad.
Whoa! I haven't heard this one in eons. Makes me kinda grateful I'm old and got to know of all these great artists. Thank you for keeping their memories alive and reminding what they meant to us
Percy Sledge was a southern soul artist. Another great southern soul artist was Wilson Pickett. I suggest starting with "In the Midnight Hour" for him, but "Mustang Sally" is great too.
Jay if you like this song then you need to react to take time to know her. He has such a nice voice looking forward to your reaction. All I can say is damn. I love this song 😊😊💖💙💖
Percy was just a singer in the local church fortunately for him the church was in an Alabama town called “”Mussel Shoals”....the great recording studio located there, began to use him for selective background....He recorded this song in one take, they called up Atlantic Records in NYC and played the tape over the phone....they went nuts over the phone. A hit right from the start
He sangin' his heart out. Dude we gots to get you on Sam Cooke and Otis.
kj robbi Definitely!!! Two of my all time faves! 👍💖⭐️
change is going to come.....Sam Cooke
“Twisting the Night Away” was the 1st song from Sam Cooke my dad played for me when I was little
Marylou Clemente That’s a lovely memory. 👍👍💖
kj robbi yes, got to get on him for those two Lol!
Percy sledge was a great singer! He never got the recognition he deserved especially for this song. This performance doesn’t show his full potential that he really had.💗
Giving me chills! 💖🥰
Turd Ferguson hi lady, yes unfortunately this is not his best performance. Doesn’t show anywhere near the range he really had.
missgmoma Agreed. 👍💜👍
missgmoma Have you been able to sign on to Patreon? I’m still having trouble with it.
Turd Ferguson actually I haven’t tried again, I’ll have to get to it. Been so busy here with crazy stuff going on. I was allergic to the dye in the face mask & both eyes were almost swollen shut & rash under each. Been using ice pk for 3 days, finally getting better.

he sounded great here live but yeah, his voice in the studio version is straight fire.
Absolutely
Yes the studio version is flawless, but this shows his real talent. To sing the whole song with no "cuts" (especially this one) He smashed it 👌
I love your reaction. Thanks friend 🙏🏽🧡🥰✌🏽
Wilson Pickett.....'In the Midnight Hour'.
Anything by the wicked Picket is phenomenal good on ya man
Oh the memories ❤️
scentials Soooo good! 👍👍💖
Turd Ferguson I can’t remember things I did yesterday but can remember all the lyrics of these songs from waay back 😂

So many songs and singers of that era told a story, made you feel.

Percy Sledge was such a passionate singer.

So much passion in his voice , you can feel what he is singing. Beautiful song in a privilege voice.

I love this song so much. It's so beautiful and heartfelt.
This performance is raw as hell. No echo or any effect on his voice.
Awesome

Percy Sledge, "When a Man Loves a Woman", recorded right here in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, 1965. Percy was always smiling, kind and pleasant.

Love this song and performance by Percy Sledge. Stupendous soul and introduced by the great Otis Redding.
No one sang it better than Percy Sledge!!!
Percy Sledge was a southern soul artist. Another great southern soul artist was Wilson Pickett. I suggest starting with "In the Midnight Hour" for him, but "Mustang Sally" is great too.
Yeah man! Great performance by Percy Sledge. BUT, please listen to the studio cut. It is soul perfection.

You need to watch the film: "Muscle Shoals." Actually, every fan of music should.
Raw, truthful emotion sung with his soul. Beautiful!
Every word Percy sings is truth bomb 🤨. Great song, thanks for brightening my night 🙌💗
