A very very good tip is going into your accessibility settings and turning on "allied teammates" it will add a glow around the animals and you can also set the color of said glow and how much bloom you'd like

How did you create a fast access to tools? Like F1, F2, etc.
You can assign keys to access gear wheel item slots 1-12 in the settings.
Just have to count, it won't tell you what's equipped there.
