Lolol as a generality, pretty accurate. I'm sure there are a few chicks in the crowd who are aware that it's a Hendrix cover. I know a couple ladies who knew it as a Hendrix track before Mayer ever laid it down. They're out there.
Oh god no. He does his own take on it, which is fine, but it’s nowhere close to mastering the original. Jimi’s version has so much more soulful nuance. Mayer’s is like a mediocre karaoke track. Nice that he pays homage, but this performance is light years away from being a new masterpiece. It’s too hollow and showy, as if he’s playing to impress people rather than to emote with authenticity.
They were totally not locked in, especially in the beginning of the song. Is this definitely Steve Jordan? He’s such a monster player so I wonder if they hadn’t rehearsed it in a long time. It’s a really tough song
Could be that the reverb in the room is throwing our ears off, cause if it's Mayer and Steve Jordan, it's gonna be dead on. Actually, Mayer is such a nut about doing everything possible to get the right sound that I highly doubt he'd hire a drummer that he didn't absolutely gel with.
its the reverb + the room delay. the cameraman was filming right in front of the stage so the camera picked up BOTH the original drum sound AND the sound coming from the venue speakers (in which there would be a slight delay in sound delivery), hence the seemingly off tempo drum beat
Johnny just rips it in half, I fell in luv with the real Jimmy version, but Johnny put the corn beer on wheat toast swiss cheese, & dill pickles with cold modeleo into it. Gotta hand John some stripes doin James henderson's classic debut.
Gotta love the Monterey strat
Gosh that first note of the solo🤤
Outstanding footage, thank you from guitar players everywhere!
What an epic way to start the solo. Damnnnnnn
SHEESH I was not expecting that intro to the solo haha sooo cool!!!!!!!!
Girls be like wow a new song by Mayer!!
Nah, been listening to Hendrix a long time before John was born

It's been a long time since we saw him Play that Strat..
prs deal lol
Shredded that solo. What a beast.
guitar player out there are either examining the shit out of it or just amazed on how tf did john can sing while playing those riffs
Both!

@@theanthonyv Exactly!!
How could you not like this?
Insane. Nice capture!
Nice footage. Needed this to learn his version because the "John Mayer version" tabs didn't seem accurate at all. They weren't. Thanks!
Love his use of the Tremolo!
Love the way you ⚡️🎸⚡️and the ⚡️🥁⚡️😎😎🔥🔥🔥👌👌✌🏻👍👏👏👏👏👏👏kicked butt..wat👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏just phenomenal man...wooo
Is it just me or does the drummer seem way off here? Probably because Jimi's stuff had such a unique and dominant percussive quality.

After listening to it again I think John may have actually been dragging....

Its definetly the reverb.
