We traveled down to Sacramento to Boddie's No Excuses Final Chapter race! We ran into some badass cars and the one you'll be seeing in this video is a Datsun 240z street car! This car has never seen prep OR radials before. Lots of new changes with a 118mm turbo makes for an interesting video!

being in the midwest the "factory floor pans" part was really the most impressive part of the car.
Especially on a old Datsun. Those things are practically extinct.

Honestly impressive to see this guy just show up and start figuring things out so quickly. It shows he actually understands what he's trying to accomplish out there. Really wish he would've stayed on the radial for the final and figured out the leave completely, but no shame in taking a swing at what you know.
He raced Cali Nate a few weeks ago at a no prep race and beat h by half a car.

That first hit he did was clean as hell. Nice and easy off the line then poured the power to it. You can tell he had a good bit of room to turn it up.
That's a great result for the 1st time on a prepped track. It was like 106 degrees out there too and the track was 149 temp at one point. That was the hottest I've ever raced in.

If you have any videos of that grey Sentra/200sx in the background of the second round win interview i would love to see it. That was my first car in highschool and it was so slow but it started my love for racing.

Yea they looked too inflated. A couple psi out the tire could have been it
Going from slicks to radials takes a lot more than just swapping the tires. Majority of the time it takes different length bars, different shocks and rims. Everyone I know runs a wider wheel with a radial then with a slick.
Yea he has alot of figuring out to do. He needs about a foot of separation to keep them tires planted inwhich your right, the radial cars run a wider wheel to stretch the tire inorder to create more contact area for the tire but he has potential and alot more going on than I do so I've got to give props

@@VS666 Just personal preference. I would go with a Japanese power plant. If I was gonna build a Z drag car I'd use one of Bullet Race Engineering's billet RB30's. Rated for 2500+hp. And sounds way better than any V8 imo.

I can literally see that the tires are overinflated. If he dropped pressures and took some dome pressure out of it on the hit that thing would be insane.

Yep, it’s too bad he didn’t talk to people about what it takes to run a radial. It’s totally different than a slick, especially a slick on no prep. Need to change the bars instant center to put in anti squat as you said and to hold it there. It’s very likely that his shocks are not valved for a radial tire.
That's exactly what I was thinking, if your suspension is working, the harder you leave the more it should pound that tire into the ground giving better traction. If you have to leave that soft there's something not working right in the chassis.
You'd have thought these people that were preaching radials to him would have given him some advice on how to make it work
To me it looked like the pressure was a bit high too. The flex wasn’t very noticeable on launch

Omg… this is my struggle. Everyone loves radials, I’ve tried mickeys and Hoosiers and maybe one out of every 5 runs I get them to stick. Otherwise it’s just spin city.

With a radial sometimes too little power will cause it to spin a lot more than too much power radials are weird when they hook they hook but everything has to be right
