Catastrophic flooding from Helene in Black Mountain Nc ahead of critical dam breeches that wiped out Chimney Rock.
What's really alarming about this is that hurricanes normally lose strength quickly once they are over land - but this is hundreds of miles from the point the storm made landfall, and it's still caused massive damage.
It rained for days before the storm ever hit land

Im from Miami and was trucking by a day before it came and it was raining from Mobile AL all the way too Florence SC.i was telling folks how it shouldn't be raining this hard up and it didnt even it land yet.never seen nothing like it

All the drug needles in parking lots and any green spaces in Ashville are on the way to the river system. It's what happens when you try to help addicts and homeless people that want to be homeless. At least for a little while your small kids won't have to worry about needles. Guess that's a good thing

This is all in the flood plain. Likely hundred year flood plain, but floods happening every few years now.

How does a poor soul like me help the folks up them hills. I would volunteer to help anyway i could? No$$ but i can man a shovel i can operate a backhoe. I can hand out water or food from a kitchen?? Any one knows how a person can help these folks dealt this terrible hand?
I was hoping that this footage would’ve showed the situation of the 3/4 mile long(grocery) Ingles Distribution Center (large enough to hold about 27 football fields)close to this drone footage in Swannanoa and Black Mountain, NC and where I used to deliver back in the day, especially since it’s largely responsible for much of the food supply of WNC and surrounding areas, including the Piedmont and other states like SC & Georgia.
I went to the ingles grocery store in September 2007 for my best friend Daniel Burbanks wedding
my husband grew up here family still lives here hope they are all safe very sad for all people and animals

That is NOT Black Mountain. That is SWANNANOA at I40 exit 59, five miles west of Black Mountain at I40 exit 64. I don’t see any footage from Black Mountain in this video.
I live in Swannanoa. Damage was perhaps even worse on the other side of the river. An entire mobile home park was swept away. Water went up the roofs of many houses. Trees down everywhere. Gas and water lines broken, vehicles in the river. Just pure destruction.
I lived in Black Mountain. Still own a house there on Allen Mountain, not even sure it made it. My heart is sick. God show mercy and grace to these friends who are hurting. To all who see this, I am so sad and heart sick for you and your loss.

We have to stop building on floodplains, within 600 feet of rivers, and 1000 feet from oceans.
The floodplain is part of the river, just not all the time. But when it is, this happens.
You can't build on the slopes. The only natural building sites are in valleys, the rest is ridges.
Some places had as much as 25 inches of rain. Floodplain doesn’t matter at that point. Even if you built on the mountainsides the water coming down would wash everything away. This is an unprecedented event. Oceanside is a different matter. If you live there you know and accept the risk.

My heart just aches for everyone caught in the path of these terrible storms. There will be more storms, more deaths, more grief if we don't elect a leader willing to do what's needed! The Democrat presidential candidate has a plan of action against climate change. The Repubican candidate doesn't even believe in it. We have a choice to make in November. I hope we choose wisely.
