I think Demko’s health could be a major factor for the Canucks this season. He hasn’t played a full season in two years, and was out for most of the playoffs. The Canucks have to cut down his work load and have him rested and ready for a hopefully long run.

Last year, people didn't think the Canucks were gonna even make the playoffs, and yet they won their division. Norris winner. Jack Adams winner. And they even won a round with their Vezina finalist injured for the most part.
This year people keep doubting this team and claim they will drop back down. Okay, then, let them doubt.
But the reality is that hockey is fun in Vancouver again, and they can't take that away from the fans.

I am not surprised by what Vancouver accomplished last season, I have said in the past and will say it again, this team has a solid core of good, relatively young, hockey players. Their one area of concern is goaltending, to me Demko stands out as half of a tandem, a 1A, now they need to go out and get a 1B. They should be looking for a backup that can start 35 games because a heavy workload on Demko will ultimately hurt Vancouver come playoff time, and yes, this team should be in the playoffs, Rick Tocchet has this group playing well together so for the superstitious Canucks fans out there(like THG), go rub Buddha's belly or whatever ritual you have to perform to get yourself through the season, because playoff hockey is now a thing in Vancouver.😊

    • @williamford9564

The biggest concern I have with the Canucks this season is load management from the way Tocchet over plays guys during games, rides goalies into the ground, and fails to rest some guys ahead of the playoffs. The way the Canucks picked up depth players made me think that management felt that nobody was ready to make the next step from their shallow prospect pool, which just got a bit shallower today.

Gotta figure out what held Hronek and Petty in the latter stages of the season/postseason, but I, as a Canucks fan, am finally really excited to watch games. This crew is really good at keeping themselves in games and squeaking out hard-fought wins, never mind also blowing out opponents. After some playoff experience, they can make cup runs!

In the short-term that this management team has been here, the team HAS been retooled. Demko, Hughes, Myers, Miller, Petterson, Boeser, remain the core, but everything else has been changed. The core is made up of Benning’s construction, but the supporting cast and coaching has improved by a lot. If the PK can perform in the top 15, this team can contend.

That was a Benning pick tho and a botched one from the looks of it. I can't see how podz won't be a middle six power forward in his prime if he doesn't give up and run back to Russia.
I'm assuming he said he wants NHL ice time and the fact he's waiver eligible hurts his value. It doesn't hurt terribly yet but if he excels it might.

Rather dissapointed that they gave up on Podz. Especially for what they got back.

KIngs, Oil, Canucks, Vegas... strange to think that the Pacific might not be the weakest division anymore... Of the other 3, I think the Canucks have the best chance of beating the Oil, which, again, feels downright WEIRD to say after the last few years.

Van can beat Edmonton but it depends on if Demko is healthy. Demko is the xfactor.

If Torts was the coach this year the Canucks would win the Cup.

This year, they need to be the CANucks instead of the CAN’Tnucks.

Also Linus Karlsson isn't good either, both of them should go back to the SHL, both horrible players. They suck period end of discussion.

Such a weak division. They'd be better off calling it the "pacifier division"

2023 Cup Champs (VGK), 2024 Finalists (EDM). Maybe the Central isn't stronger than the Pacific.

2007 Ducks we're unreal. Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Corey Perry. It just wasn't fair for the rest of the league lol

Someone MUST say it at this point... Pettersson is a head case. Dudes his own worst enemy. That ego is something to behold. He's gonna torpedo himself, and I hate to say it... It's my worst nightmare, but I've worked with talent before. I've seen folks with all the talent that everyone dreams of... and implode due to an egoic selfish mindset, and they never recover. Most end up unwell... some even end up on the streets.

i think you're the first person i've ever seen that thinks petey has a large, selfish ego
from everything we've heard and seen about him - including how his coaches and teammates talk about him - say how driven and motivated he is yet humble
he definitely has had some mental struggles, he gets in his own head a lot it would seem when he slumps - but he's probably not selfish like you claim
