- WestJet and its striking mechanics have reached a tentative deal, but not before tens of thousands of passengers were left stranded over the Canada Day long weekend due to flight cancellations. Neetu Garcha reports on what some travellers have been forced to endure and what both sides are agreeing to if the new deal doesn't get ratified.
Former U.S. president Donald Trump is celebrating a major legal victory, because the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has ruled former presidents are immune from criminal prosecution when carrying out "official acts." Jackson Proskow looks at when a president can be prosecuted, what the ruling means for Trump's election obstruction case and why Democrats concerned the SCOTUS decision sets a dangerous precedent.
While Canada celebrates its 157th birthday, July 1 is also Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador, marking an opportunity to honour fallen members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during the First World War. As Zack Power reports, a ceremony was held for the province's Unknown Soldier, whose remains have been finally returned home after more than a century in France.
French President Emmanuel Macron's gamble to call snap parliamentary elections is backfiring as a rival party, the far-right National Rally (RN), made significant gains in the first round of voting. Redmond Shannon explains how France's centrist and left-wing parties are scrambling to prevent the RN from forming a government.
Israel has released dozens of Palestinian prisoners, including Al-Shifa hospital director Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, who was detained for seven months amid allegations that Hamas militants are operating from Gaza's main hospital. Crystal Goomansingh explains why Dr. Abu Salmiya was freed, how his release is causing an uproar and what he is accusing Israel of.
Plus, to mark both Canada Day and its centennial, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) held an ambitious "parade in the sky" flypast in Ottawa. Mercedes Stephenson went behind the scenes with the RCAF's pilots as they trained for the big event.

Salute to the Newfoundlander. You served your home with honour, and now, you'll never be forgotten.
Why is anti immigrant considered “backfired”? Clearly that is what voters have woken up and realized they need at this time.
Backfired meaning he thought it was going to be a smooth election for his party, def was not lol
This is life!!!
Happy holiday for all Canadians, this is your day!! Hail Canada!! 🇨🇦🙏
How in God's name did the story about Canada's birthday come AFTER a story about a U.S. Supreme Court ruling favoring Trump?!!
May Love Peace Prevail In The World....
Happy Canada Day!!!
Eh. Pay workers better west jet. I'm not angery at the union
Beautiful presentation by our airforce! Happy Canada Day!
With all those Aircraft that our Canadian Airforce has flown, their is one that is more iconic, the Avro Arrow, that had a short life, Canadian made, was more advanced in its time and Canada has forgotten altogether.
Sorry dude. I don't think so. Lancasters and Harvards made in Canada helped in buying our freedom. Our boys died on those aircraft. Today a majority of Canadians don't even know that.
Thank you for the RCAF report. Tried to watch it live on CBC, but they totally botched it!
the chinese sure do like their fireworks...EV's, rockets, electrical appliances...etc.💥🤣
Accidental rocket launch sounds like made in china for sure.
WOW,I LOVE THIS INSANE VIDEO.
You “didn’t intend for this to happen.”? Lies
I noticed that lie as well. The union purposely took strike action on a long weekend (using the customers as a bargaining chip against the airline). The law should be changed to help customers sue the people responsible. edit spelling
100% Agree! They totally new this was coming and timed it strategically with the Canada Day Long Weekend.

Israel is doing what they have to do.
Yup, they can't help being evil! They have too!!
"Canada has listed Hamas as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code since November 2002. It is a criminal offence to knowingly participate in or contribute to any activity of Hamas. Canada has also listed the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades and other groups as terrorist organizations under Canadian legislation, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001). The Government of Canada has no contact with these groups.
Members of a listed terrorist entity are inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. In addition, property owned by listed terrorist entities in Canada may be subject to seizure, restraint or forfeiture.
Israel has a right under international law to take the necessary measures, in accordance with human rights and international humanitarian law, to protect the security of its citizens from attacks by terrorist groups."
Terrorists are evil but blurtam seems to support them.
