This is how you can use your TR-8 as its own audio interface, for the purpose of separating each drum into its own recorded track on your DAW. You can also set up tracks for the Left and Right master mix, and the External Input instrument (if you're using one).
What cables do I need to connect my Roland to my pc ?
Hi there love the video however I am hitting a brick wall . I use reaper and have bought a tr8 . I'm trying to do what you are doing in the video however when I go to device I cannot find my tr8. Is there a step I am missing or do I need to install a driver ?
I'm using reaper 64 bit on my laptop with windows 8 .
If I get a 16 channel mixer how would I connect the tr8 to the mixer to upload into my daw? I have close to 11 pieces of hardware/equipment and I’m confused as in how the TR can be channeled individually to my daw while only connected to one line input on a mixer?
hi, are you able to record the scatter effect and the reverb and delay through a return channel but control.it on the tr8? I can record the different instruments but effects and scatter don't record
Actually as far as I know the effects and scatter only appear on the master Left and Right tracks, so they don't appear on the individual drum instruments when recording. Track 1 and Track 2 represent Master Left and Right when using the TR-8 as its own interface, and that's where the scatter and effects will show up. I made an update video for this, as the video we are commenting on was incomplete. Here's the better video: ruclips.net/video/FXBBdFrE9kA/видео.html
You didn't ACTUALLY show how to set up the tracks...
This is TRUE! After you commented I watched it through and there is a whole part of the video that was missing. I'm sifting through the rough footage and I'll be posting a replacement video soon.
For now, I will say:
1) Open System Preferences in your DAW and choose TR-8 (after you've connected the TR-8 by USB to your computer).
2) Mono Channel 1 and Mono Channel 2 will represent the Left and Right of your stereo master mix coming out the TR-8.
3) Mono Channels 3 through 13 will each represent a different drum - in order that they appear from left to right on the TR-8. So Mono Channel 3 will be where the kick drum comes through, then Mono Channel 4 will be for the snare, and so on.
4) The last Mono Channel is 14, and this is where the External Input on the TR-8 will record, meaning, if you are running a synth or something through the External Input into the TR-8, this is the channel where it will be sent to your DAW for recording.
Thanks for the reply. Do you not get 2 mono tracks - one each for the audio inputs? For example I use a bass synth on the L input and another on the R input
I believe you can do either - you can use each input for a separate mono input, but I use each input as a left and right for the same synth (some of its effects etc are stereo so this way captures their effects in stereo while recording.
Hi mate, can the audio input be routed directly to it own output over USB so the TR8 acts purely as an A/D converter (without subjecting the audio file to any processing inside in the TR8?)
