Mini-Skid Steer Madness!-Very Steep Brush Cutting/Forestry Mulching On Hillside

  • This job tested the limits of my mini skid steer for sure! This customer wanted this steep slope going up their driveway to be cleared of brush and vegetation. I was able to access entire slope with mini skid steer. Although, at the steepest portion of slope I was having fun "sliding" down hill and brush cutting at same time. It just took a few extra trips to the shorter section to go back down steep section to clear everything. If you were wondering how far to take a mini skid steer I think this video may be for you! I honestly did not feel unsafe at all the entire job, but there was definitely some skill involved to know proper angle/direction to go up/down hill. I wouldn't recommend for a beginner on a mini skid steer. This job was also unique in that I was able land or slide out onto the stable surface of a driveway. So, I always had an out once skidding down the hill. I could reload by driving back up the driveway to the top. If this slope was ending into a creek or steep ravine it would not have worked. But, with the low center of gravity of the Vermeer 925( mini skid steer) it cleared the brush like a champ! Once everything was cut down, I then used my Everything Attachments Wicked Root Grapple to scrape the debris into a pile. It was loaded and hauled to green waste recyclers. Thanks for watching!

I’m in the Finger lakes region of NY. Getting into brush clearing as a side gig. The hope is that it’s less time and weather sensitive than traditional lawn care.
So far, virtually every job I’ve done has tested the “safe” limits of a compact tractor and I have no desire to roll a tractor.
Rented a Billy goat walk behind for a job today and while it’s a good machine, it wore me out pretty good running it 3.5 hours so far and I’ve got another 3-5 hrs to go just on this one job. I’d love to PM someone to discuss how to charge enough to justify good machinery without totally scaring your customers away. I assume it’s like a lot of other things, people will pay for integrity and a job well done. Thanks! Marv

I think between a skid steer, a mini skid, and a compact tractor that a mini skid would be one of the best options for me. a cabbed skid would be great for the air conditioning but standing on the machine like that would probably be a lot better on my back. i am looking to get a stand on mower soon i hope and i believe it will help my back a whole lot. i hope to eventaully expand my services and one of those 3 machines i listed would be how i would do so and like i said i think the mini would be great. not quite as capable as a full size, but much better on the body

It only happens when I get into jobs like this where I am brush cutting and there are hidden stumps after cutting down brush. It's when I have to turn sharp and don't see a stump that it pops off. It seems to happen every time I brush cut, but I am not brush cutting every day. Very rarely does it happen any other time.
