Gotta say, this song makes me cry. How many times in a life can you find yourself standing in the rubble of a once good thing, directionless. His gutteral translation of pain rips off the bandaids of once upon a time and finds the place you buried in warm sand and left in the wake of a sunset sail.

I just got out of work and this young boy no older then 17 came and sat outside the store. We closed up shop and as I turned my car on, the boy still sat quietly in his place, I figured I’d approach him to see if everything was alright. I asked if he was waiting for someone and he replied by asking if it wasn’t allowed for him to stay there. I was shocked at the response considering he was young and it was 10:00 at night. I said it was ok but if he needed to get somewhere, and he said he was heading for the bus station to which I offered him a ride. He was thankful but felt guilty for occupying me from my usual route, which of course I said it wasn’t a problem.
On the way, he began to tell me about his life story, which I didn’t meant to pry when I asked what had happened to him. Long story short, a boy of 17, expelled from his a father’s home because he was a burden to him, didn’t have anywhere else to go, headed from a distance of, let’s say, Washington DC to Philadelphia ON FOOT, yeah! Mother’s a prostitute who also as he put it, didn’t want him either, no other caretakers that care for him, 9 half siblings already with their lives set except for one who died at 14 from drug overdose, having had the same fate of being tossed aside as this young man... I was literally on the verge of tears. I left him at his destination where he would try to find a job to sustain himself, and I didn’t know what else to do, I wanted to do so much more then give him a ride, I gave him a $20 to help out but I didn’t feel satisfied. I asked him one of his curriculums to see if I can help him find a job at where I work, who knows right.
So then I checked my phone and Cobi’s notification is on my screen, I click and automatically the lyrics are as if we’re written for this boy I had just met, and I cannot stop to think of what might be of him, if this is an indication that I should go back and save him, I feel so sorry for him, no love from the people who should prioritize that live alone for him! All alone in this world... child protective services won’t help either because it’s very faulty in my country! I also cannot offer him a home, but I wish I could do something!
Yes I would go back and help that young man. The parents and system have completely failed this innocent soul. If nothing else you can show him compassion which he desperately needs right now.
