How about addressing the one of the real issues like over netting the rivers it doesn't matter how many fish you put in the river if you kill them all when they return!!
Over netting? Commercial fisherman have certain numbers they are allowed to harvest every year just like us recreational anglers. They aren’t over netting according to Oregon Law, and you will never get those laws changed because the politicians make too much money in kickbacks from commercial fisheries lobbying tactics. It sucks but, I e had a record coho return on the willamette this year and are gearing up for a record winter steelhead run. Yeah there would be more fish if they didn’t run nets but commercial fisherman have got to feed their families too and if we’re getting record fish runs back what are you really complaining about? You probably want to take down the dams too huh even though through billions spent in salmon conservation we have millions of salmon that successfully run to and from the ocean every year all the way up to the grande ronde in northeast Oregon. Before just blanket blaming someone, educate yourself. Commercial fisherman don’t make the laws they just follow them! And I don’t even have any skin in the game to argue one way or the other I just don’t like the blame game especially when you’re blaming the wrong people lol. I have a drift boat and I bank fish the Clackamas, Sandy, Willamette and a couple coastal tributaries and have had great success this year with both hatchery fish and wild Fish. Would almost seem like you’re blaming commercial fisherman for you not being able to catch a fish. That’s a you problem buddy!
@@Clacka89 You're wrong commercial fisheries collude with government to create laws and regulations to their advantage. Netting is 100% the blame for loss of Salmon species. Not dams, not fish passage. Wild species have never once stood the force of market pressures. From the beaver 🦫 to the buffalo 🦬 Market pressures= extinction It's that simple.
They'll also use some of those millions for lawyers to restrict fishing opportunities for non natives. You just wait, you're gonna see multiple Rivers over the next year have the same fate as the skokomish
@@kq2799so you’re saying he’s wrong the tribes have money coming out of their ears they gill net the fish through them on the bank and have their kids stomp on them then they send the meat to Asia their ancestors would be turning in there graves
This is awesome news for us PNW anglers! These ODFW guys and gals sure do a fantastic job with what they got to work with! Yes, Mormon crickets were a staple protein in traditional Native American diets, such as that of the Achomawi. The wingless crickets were hunted and eaten by Native American tribes. The Mormon cricket is actually a shield-backed katydid, but is named after the Mormon settlers in the Salt Lake area in the mid-1800s. The settlers were surprised when the crickets destroyed their crops the spring after they arrived in the valley. They may bite if picked up, but they do not carry any diseases. Larger swarms can pose a risk to agriculture and home gardens. To get rid of Mormon crickets, you can use a combination of habitat manipulation, biological controls, and targeted use of insecticides.

Sucker fish and insects were more important as a traditional food source than salmon to these "Natives".Just look at the old photos Celilo falls and you will see steel cables, cables cars and large steel hoop nets. They could never gain access to those islands and channels.Infact those Indians were moved from Bonneville to Celilo because they couldn't catch them down there with modern equipment.Salmon fishing is a modern advent developed by white people. They only time these Indians had access to any of these salmon were when the were all spent and on their spawning beds in shallow water in the fall.Even their best preservation techniques those fish would only last about 6 weeks.SUCH A FALLACY!
Good they should be pumping out millions of salmon outside these hatcheries

How do you guarantee fish to be there for anyone
Fish for indians but not us. Of course. More nets in the rivers. I live here too AND PAY TAXES. And we get shafted.
So they can ship the fish to asia
