    About arowhead: fact: it is currently one of two stadiums that falls under the OLD regulation about the perimeter of the field in relation to diatance from the stands. Aka the seating is right next to field almost on top of the players. This has the consequence of making the atmosphere intimate, the sound from fans is louder, and fans can see the action better. New stadium builds under the new regulations are not able to take advantage of those consequences. These are the reasons to NOT tear down arrowhead.

      Yes, but in render it looks like adding more is a good idea when Royals leave? All the extra land of said stadium could have been used for a bar type place and food concessions and even a smaller Ramada/Radison type place decked out in teams colors.

    This stadium is one of those rare cases where age has not affected it, I love the shape of its stands, I would only make improvements inside to improve access and so on, but on the outside it looks beautiful, maybe change seats and that, but the old fashion exterior is beautiful from my point of view. Chiefs fan here. The additional parking makes sense for us because we like to tailgate and the entire lot is already full for every game as it is. So that will be nice to have. I do agree that the upper deck needs a facade as well so it's enclosed on the concourse. I was expecting that. Will be good to have bigger video boards and better sound system.

  • @RobertReital
    @RobertReital 7 месяцев назад +6

    Being from KC and being part of many Cheifs fan groups on Facebook ive seen a lot of positive feedback on this. I think a lot of people that are "pissed" as it were, are probably folks who dont go to games. As far as the parking goes someone suggested maybe they plan to expand the parking so that the Royals can still use it on game days and just have dedicated shuttles bringing the fans from there to the new stadium.
    Personally im a fan of the proposed changes. It will condense the parking so that you no longer have cars parked probably close to a mile away. I used to work at the stadiums and for Chiefs games you had to park in lot L which is one of the furthest lots from the stadium. So imagine parking there then having to walk into the stadium then walk up and down the stairs all game long as a vendor, then walking back. If that sounds bad imagine doing it in December or January when its near freezing at 3 PM.
    Also this will allow them to maybe start building some infrastructure around the staidum to attract people. Currently there's no reason to go out there unless there's a game. Theres no bars, the lone restaurant is a taco bell. With this maybe they could turn the extra space into something if they so chose.

    The chiefs use all that parking and still don't have enough. There is no need or reason to develop the area around it. It's a huge stadium that needs 25,000 parking spaced that is used 20 times a year. The area around it is mostly highways and industry. It's like an area between the city and the suburbs. The nearby demographics won't support additional development.
    I think it's fine, but the Royals needs to move downtown and build a modern stadium. I think the plans for both teams is a good fit.

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 6 месяцев назад

      I would counter the point about what the demographics will support by observing that Patriot Place, the shopping and restaurant addendum the Krafts grafted onto Gilette years _after_ the stadium went up, is even more remote from solid demographics than the Truman Sports Complex. Something like that, at the juncture of two interstates and within city limits, could be made to work, even beyond the 20 dates per year. But I am unsure whether the fiscally risk averse Hunts would take the same leap of faith the Krafts did. I think the points you raised deterred them more completely than the remoteness of Foxboro did the Krafts.
      Note also that, like Arrowhead, the Patriots training facility got sited within the Foxboro parking desert. (The MLS team facility followed later.) So, Gillette/Patriot Place/training facility would seem like something that should be examined more closely in figuring out what to do with the TSC parking desert. Building a structure or two would keep the number of parking spaces at 25,000+ and open portions of the desert to development. (Not all lots because...tailgating!) Non-tailgaters could utilize the structures and the restaurants would give people a place to divert to until post-game traffic subsided.

    • @kc2dc444
      @kc2dc444 6 месяцев назад

      @@johnmaster3748 Foxboro is an exurb between Boston and Providence with little retail. It's a perfect fit for an outlet mall.
      The truman sports complex is in an industrial area between the city and the suburbs. If you drive ten minutes east, you have plenty of shopping, movie theaters etc, in Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs etc. so there would be no demand for such a thing at the stadiums.
      The KC market is already over saturated with retail centers and most have high vacancies.
      And throwing an outlet mall onto the side of the stadium would be a terrible idea for the Royals. There is a big difference between an urban ballpark and an stadium with a strip mall thrown next to it.
      Face it, the Chiefs need lots of parking and the location is fine for them. It's never really going to develop. If that area develops at all, it would be into warehouse parks.
      I just hope renovating vs building a new stadium works. I'm not totally sold on this renovation.
      The Royals need to move though.

This requires a 3/8-cent sales tax extension on the April ballot, which would help fund a new Royals ballpark and renovations at Arrowhead Stadium. If Jackson County voters, notoriously tough, approve the tax, both teams are committed to staying in Jackson County. Adding more challenges, Arrowhead is an island sandwiched between Independence and Raytown. It’s a Jackson County project. So the sensible plan is to present concepts voters will approve on the first ballot and not 2 to 4 years from now.

    If the Royals are moving out, it makes no financial sense to build an "entertainment district" in a parking lot next to the stadium for at most 8-10 days a year. Maybe a microbrew or a restaurant for the non-tailgaters.

    They have 10 or so home games a year including playoffs - what would be the point of bars in the parking lot? It’s a shitty area and no one will go there outside of game day

    • @goldenageofdinosaurs7192
      @goldenageofdinosaurs7192 7 месяцев назад

      Exactly. So many times I’ve seen empty places, where nobody ever goes that are all built up with a ton of money spent on them & you could tell it was a dumb idea before it was even started. That’s exactly what putting a bunch of bars & restaurants in an area no one gives to, except for 8-10 days a year sounds like🤣
      If people want all that kind of stuff, then they need to build the new Arrowhead downtown, where it can reasonably support itself during the off-season. Of course, no one wants that. Why, I’m not sure. I wonder if they even know themselves, really.

    We are pissed about the owner of the Royals, John Burnham, demanding we pay taxes to give him a new stadium downtown, where an art district, The Crossroads, will be torn down. He is deceptively claiming that the Royals' stadium is crumbling and can't be renovated. Burns and McDonnell came out in 2021 saying that the stadium was fine, rated at least a B+. As usual, they are claiming that the downtown stadium will revitalize the city but the area around the Truman Complex is actually utterly a blight, nothing there. It is disgusting that they want us on the hook until 2064 for this new stadium downtown and the Chiefs' new party area in the parking lot. They need to go back to the drawing board because the tickets, parking and concessions are too expensive for the average people here and yet they want us to pay for this?

    They aren’t thinking big picture, there’s more money to be made if they realized they could be putting on concerts and other events/venues during the off season if they added a retractable roof! They should be adding more seats expanding it for more seats, all of this would also make this stadium louder. They need to knock this outta the park, so they also host a Super Bowl and rake in millions as well, they are missing the bigger picture!

    And please no on the chrome facade. That’s going to age so badly. Arrowhead has a classic look. Don’t mess with it.

  • @CupOfTeeeee
    @CupOfTeeeee 7 месяцев назад +2

    The proposed Arrowhead changes are fine!
    Would have loved a village area with bars and such, but being that the surrounding area is a parking lot and that will not change bc of the history of rabid tailgating parties, no business in their right mind would set up shop in a village that's opened 1 day a week for only 8-9 (maybe more with playoffs) weeks in a year. The Activation zone area makes sense as it allows the popup events and business to come.
    The other complication is the sports complex area is owned by the county, so the Hunt family is limited to what they can do in that area. Unlike the other upgrades inside the building for additional revenue, to build a facade upgrade cost money without a ROI. A hard ask since it most likely will request another sales tax increase in the city and/or county.

    The only people "pissed", are those that want an unrealistic dome over the stadium. They are a vocal minority and do not represent the majority of Chiefs fans. The presser today did note that there are exterior renovations, including covered concourses on the club level and a full 360 concourse on the upper level. The comment about "doing parking garages" says how little you know about the tailgate experience. By increasing parking, you eliminate one of the major gripes from fans attending games; and that is the limit to your tailgating site in the lots. No KC fan wants a parking garage.
    Regarding "building up the surrounding area", the TSC sits in an industrial area. In no way, shape or form does it make sense to create major commercial investments. Who is going to want to stay in a hotel overlooking Arrowhead and the MODOT salt barns? No one. Again, listening to the presser would probably have done you some good with a few of the ideas you presented.

      On my way to Gates BBQ on 40 Hwy we passed by the Truman Sports Complex. It is exactly my thoughts, the entire complex is centered around the traditions passed from one Chiefs fan to the younger generations. Sitting out in the lot smoking some great bar-b-que before the game with 76,000 friends, making the short trek to the gates, getting in to sit in your seats, and finally screaming your head off to kill the opposing teams offense.
      Is it snazzy or glitzy? No, that's what we have Power and Light, The Plaza, and Kauffman Center of Performing Arts for. It does what it is meant to do.

    And your parking desert is part of what makes Arrowhead so fantastic, it's the tailgating which is a good 50% of the whole game experience. And the fact that they are adding more parking is fantastic it's not a dumb idea🙄
    There's no way they're going to build bars there because they're moving Kaufman downtown and you're going to be creating direct competition for that. The problem is it's for nine games a year it's not going to be a big enough draw to put any kind of District😂
    Yeah sorry but I'm guessing you don't go to Arrowhead😂😂

    Why would they change anything about the stadium if the fans love it?
    There's also no practical ability for a development to exist around the stadiums both for parking requirements, and for another very important reason: the stadiums are in the bad part of town. Would you want to go to a bar or something of the like in South Chicago? That's what you're fundamentally talking about.
    Neither team really needs to do anything. If the Royals want a renovated Kauffman, let's give it to them. They could use it. The Chiefs are less desperate for an update.

    Get a damn sliding roof, maaan. That would provide so many more opportunities for new business. And u can park it to the side when/if its not needed, which ought to then cover some sort of entertainment. This is what i was thinking. All that parking should allow a section for several food trucks to come & sell food- that would've been a great selling feature to the public- pay a small fee yo have a food truck for a game. I mean, its not like we're not embracing our tailgating already & not like its gona take away business from or prevent ppl from buyibg stadium food.
    I digress

    Hell, even Lambeau has stuff to do around the stadium. I'm in agreement, the Chiefs shouldn't geta roof to the stadium, but they can have an over hang kind of like what the Bengals have. That pedestrian bridge over that road is kind of cool I guess. But with that said if they build a couple of parking garages to condense the parking some, they could put a bar or restaurant on the ground level. Hell, even Jacksonville has a few parking garages with an attached restaurant that serves beer. And speaking of Jacksonville, at least the Jags are planning on putting stuff around the stadium that people could actually potentially enjoy. But then again, there is a minor league baseball stadium and an arena near the Jags stadium. My guess is that the Jags were considering the entertainment value of the people going to baseball stadium stadium or arena.

Cheifs are going to want a new downtown stadium within 10 years. That's why they don't want to dump a lot of money into this mislocated place.
