What an amazing performance in front of a crowd that normally probably wouldn't be at a Metallica show. I love how Elton was one of the very first to give a standing ovation!

Elton is a huge fan of Metallica and James a huge fan of Elton’s. There’s an interview on Howard Stern that’s definitely worth watching. James turned the piano parts into amazing riffs.

Elton was on a Miley Cyrus cover of Nothing Else Matters and face timed in on Howard Stern to tell Metallica he though it was one of the greatest songs ever and they one of the greatest bands . James, a huge EJ fan teared up. This was their thank you in a way. Honoring him. Greatest band ever.

Damn good version. I listened to the original when it came out and it was all a 16 year old could want--unforgettable, as it became the soundtrack of my life--every party, on the road, even on the headphones of my stereo all alone. This version is respectful and dynamic--all great musicians. Great moment in rock.

This version and the version that Dream Theater recorded for their A Change of Seasons EP are the two best versions of this in my opinion. Though the Dream Theater version is in the middle of a sort of medley of songs, if I remember correctly. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard their version.
Either way, I guess I just love the “Metalification” of the song. The way it translates almost seamlessly into a heavier song is great. This is also one of Metallica’s best performances and they were all just having a lot of fun. I’m sure it’s a really fun break from playing their own songs night after night. To be able to get up there and play a cover of an iconic song in front of its creators has got to be an amazing feeling. Especially when they give you a standing ovation afterwards and tell you it was amazing. You can see the respect the band had for them with how they treated the song, and how much respect James has for them at the end.

Yo , good reaction. but first, that shirt is super cool. Second as a fan of the greatest band to ever exist...this cover is a masterpiece! This probably go down in history because Sir Elton Jon is an icon. the original version is just as good.

Trent Reznor actually said that Johnny Cash's cover made that song Johnny's and not NIN
