A lot of us were mislead by our parents, relatives or neighborhood friends. To no fault of their own because the people who were leading us were mislead themselves. The cycle only breaks when someone is wise or brave enough to spot the misleading that is trying to be passed down to them and do the opposite. As we can all see from the new generations It can be a hard cycle to break.
