    Aloha! Thanks for posting! Ran across the use of ToneDexter on the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum and started looking in YT. You are correct there are some good videos regarding the TD. Nice sound you got there btw! How does the Boost button sound? I'm told I need to boost my signal when playing solo leads...or pick harder (I prefer using my fingers but learning with a 1.5 m pick). Love the natural sound of guitar coming from the ToneDexter but would like to boost (increase volume) when I play a lead during the song. Thanks for your input! Cheers!@

      The boost is great! Totally useful. I use it like this: When I tap in a percussive loop and then layer other sounds on top, the boost is off. Then, when I come in with my main melody, I simply hit the boost. Since the ToneDexter rejects feedback effetively, I have not had any problems. Thanks for the question!

    You have one of the nicest acoustic guitar tone I've heard in a while! The bass and lower mids sound so meaty and big without clouding the other frequencies. Must be that lovely guitar. And your fantastic playing certainly helps :) how would you compare the tone dexter to the grace Felix?

      Thanks Daniel! It's funny that you ask about the Felix bc I just sold the Tonedexter and bought the Grace Alix. I had the Felix but it was too huge. The Alix does it all. Here is why I chose the Alix: It has a better FX loop to my ears. Cleaner and interacted with my reverb better. I also like the Alix bc I actually like the sound of my KK. I like the tone of an amplified acoustic. That being said, If I were using inears, the Tonedexter would be perfect! The Alix in headphones is fine but the Tonedexter kills it! I don't play using inears that often but if I did, I'd have both for sure. The Tonedexter is just amazing! The Alix and Felix are ALSO amazing! Just two different animals. I will say that amping acoustic guitar has come a long way in the last 10 years. :)

    Great playing but IMHO the bypassed sound is MUCH better. I'm just not a fan of the digital stringency of the ToneDexter. I miss the warmth and roundness.

      Andreas Gisler totally agree. I no longer own the tonedexter. It’s great but not for me.

    I use delay and reverb also with a Furch guitar fitted with k&k and black Angel soundhole pickup. Your video is interesting because I am considering buying the tonedexter for use with the k&k alone . I also like a slightly more direct sound with less of the mic air but am convinced that tonedexter will give a much more natural sound than the dry pickup. How do you find the notch filter when you turn up louder..is it effective without scooping too much out?I've been waiting for a demo like yours because I also play alternate turnings through effects and like that slightly ambient sound...good stuff!

    • @mattvanyacoustic9295
      @mattvanyacoustic9295  6 лет назад

      Daniel Coffey thanks for the question! The notch is really effective and, to me unnoticeable for a notch filter. I replaced my Grace Felix with it. That should say a lot. I seriously would not hesitate to order one and try it out.

      I have a Felix as well and my only knock on the Tonedexter is that the Felix was much quieter in terms of hiss. The Tonedexter is still very quiet but my rig was silent with the Felix.

    Hello! I want to ask you something, a friend of mine living in America will buy this pedal for me (ToneDexter). I want to get a sound close to the real guitar sound. At the same time definitely want to do this without using a microphone. Is this possible? I've heard Fishman and Lr baggs preamps on youtube many times, but none of them sound realistic. What can you say about ToneDexter?

    • @mattvanyacoustic9295
      @mattvanyacoustic9295  5 лет назад

      Ses Veriyorum actually I sold the tonedexter. It’s good but after playing with it for quite some time, I found it to be muddy no matter which mic I used to make the preset. I use a K&K mini pickup and a K&K preamp. It’s less expensive and does the trick for me.

    Have you worked with any devices that use acoustic guitar "IRs" (impulse responses), for example, the Fishman Aura, or 3Sigma's IR's created for software and "modelers?"
    I'd like to know how other approaches compare to the ToneDexter. If you know, does the ToneDexter create an impulse response using the microphone, or does it work with some kind of multi-band EQ?

      J Mhr those other technologies are a bit older but work very well. This just sounds the most natural to me. It couples the pickup sound with the recorded mic sound. Sounds amazing to my ears! I’ve tracked with it and most ppl ask what mic I’m using. Then I let them know it’s actually my pickup thru the tonedexter! I’m very picky so you can trust me. If you buy one and it sounds like crap, you are doing something wrong. Ha! Seriously though, you’d love it!

      @@mattvanyacoustic9295 yes, I just trained it with the third mic and it made ALL the difference. Definitely forget the TD at first and just try tracking all the mics and mic placements with headphones til you find a few combos you like and ONLY THEN unplug from the recorded and plug into the ToneDexter. Trial and error just got me demoralised.

    You managed to not get that strange low mid hollow tubbiness that many or most people seem to get in their tonedexter videos. Although I thought everything else was great about the Tonedexter, the notion of being stuck with that artifact was a little bit disappointing. But you showed that you can get an imprint that doesn't include that low-mid tubbiness, and that is great! It occurs to me that alot of things would need to be in place in order to get a really good quality impulse of the guitar, the same things that are important to making a stellar recording - the type and model of mic, the precise placement and something I bet gets overlooked - the room and its acoustics. If you are anywhere near a hard wall or worst, in a room with hard parallel walls, you will be introducing all kinds of unwanted comb-filtering. And while using a sensitive small diaphragm condenser mic (which I cant imaging using anything else for classic shimmery tone - maybe create an imprint with an SM57 for hard rock rhythms and soloing), that the sensitivity of the small diaphragm condenser would exacerbate the bad room acoustic far more. Hey, thanks for this telling video, my hope in using a Tonedexter one day has been rekindled! Good vid, Thanks

      John T Doherty late reply here. Sorry. I sold the delay. Not really my thing. Doesn’t really do much more than any other digital delay but it’s well made. The reverb on the other hand has become my favorite! It is just the most natural sounding reverb. If you are looking for super ambient stuff, look elsewhere. If you want studio quality plate reverb, this is a great choice! Buy used though. You’ll never be able to sell it for much if you end up disliking it.
