Exactly! If the customer has to prove he didn't steal all his personal property, shouldn't Walmart have to prove it paid for every item in the store? How do we know they didn't hijack a bunch of Target trucks? I would have asked the hag to prove she owned her socks, shoes and everything on her person. Tim Tripas I wanted to buy a Bluetooth speaker recently, and they’re all locked up (including the $35 one I wanted) at my local stores. So after finding the person with the key, the guy gets it out for me. I go to take it and put it in my cart, then says he has to walk it up to the checkout with me. He even scanned it on the U Scan (no lanes open, ha!) and put in the bag.

I told him he should chew tobacco , and not harm others. He actually took my rude but true advice and bought chewing tobacco. Sometimes you have to confront people face to face and put them in order. Julie Cowan worked for Walmart over the summer and can confirm that every orientation and training they tell you that you shouldn’t even follow somebody around the store if you think they are stealing. Only thing to do is tell a manager, then they call the cops and that’s it from there
They would have to detain you before you reach the parking lot and they have to have proof. That's the policy. As a former employee that worked with walmart and helped out theft prevention. If they get you before you reach the parking lot with evidence you will be waiting in their holding room until police arrive if the amount of theft is significant.
Jessica Brotzel When you all say “not allowed to” I think of the law, not policy. So we are both talking about something different. Legally, yes, many states allow detainment.
Walmart has plenty of cameras & floorwalkers for the prevention of theft without harassing innocent shoppers on their way out. They're literally instigating conflict for no reason.

Walmart employees like this make it so easy to sue the company if they push too hard. In the last year, Walmart paid several millions of dollars for falsely accused people of stealing. Only Sam's and Costco requires showing receipt as you agreed to as a member.
No problem with Costco. Once I had a pkg of paper products on the bottom shelf of my Basket. The girl didn't catch it, I looked at the receipt and noticed the checker didn't scan that item so I asked her what I need to do. She called a manager. I showed him my receipt and told him I didn't notice that that item wasn't scanned. He was actually gracious. He said, since you were honest don't worry about it. I asked if the checker would have to pay for it, he said no, but that checker will get a 'talking to' about not missing items. I got the item for free.
SHE IS WRONG. As a Walmart employee myself, we are told to ask for a receipt when necessary and if they refuse and continue to walk away, we leave it be to prevent an outburst or confrontation. it takes away from checking on other customers as well.
@Alina McPhersonnot sure if you were quoting someone from the video but it doesnt matter if the Electronic Alarm Systems go off not all items have security tags in them to make it go off

What's to stop me from putting sunglasses in my bag, and walking out, and when they ask for my receipt to see if sunglasses are on it, I deny them. Walmart has 100 percent right to ask for a receipt. Not everything sets off the alarm, and if they have reason to believe you've stolen something, refusing to let them check can lead to problems. I was being being a sarcastic dumbass. I have stolen from Walmart though. I stole a donut. I know, I'm such a bad boy. I used self checkout, and didn't add the donut, and just walked out with it, putting it in my bag with my other stuff while no one saw. It didn't set off the alarm. If they had checked my receipt, they'd have seen I hadn't purchased it. Therefore, all these assholes are idiots. You have no right to deny them to look at your receipt. It's simple and painless, takes 2 seconds, and there's no problem unless you have stolen something.
I work at Lowes. Here at Lowes, you are automatically fired for chasing shop lifters out the store. You can only ask to see recept if the metal detector beeps or your helping the customer load their vehicle
I’m pretty sure Walmart policy is that you can’t go after them once they’re off the sidewalk. That’s how it is at our local store anyways. Now I am curious to know if these employees got in trouble. 🤔
Andrew Moore ikr? In my area there’s 12 lanes yet only two or one is open... what’s the point of putting help wanted sign if not going to hire no cashiers? I mostly see stockers
In order to keep their prices cheap as fuck they cut back on labor costs. The money you save from cheaper prices ironically costs you your time during checkout. They used to prioritize customer service, now they could care less.
LMFAO my exact statement. All Walmart employees are either on their way to break and it's not their department. On their way back from break and it's not their department, or they are in uniform shopping for themselves. It's always crowded with one line. They always make sure to have that fool posted up at the front door digging in your bags pretending to check the items. It feels like a violation of privacy. I make sure everything is in a bag and then I walk right pass them.

They r getting rid of cashers over the crap like this guy did which causes a lot of money every yr so wal mart found a way to help keep cost down and they got rid of all cashers in several of their stores
I work at Walmart. This guy is 100% right. We can ask but they are not obligated to show anything. They are also not allowed to follow you to your car. The moment you walk out we are not allowed to follow for safety reasons. My friend was fired for trying to stop a guy from stealing. According to walmart policy, walmart is a multi-billion dollar company, we can afford to lose a tv, but our employee's lives can never be replaced. You let them go and stay safe. These people would all be fired if they worked at my store...
Jesse Tellez most if not all bigger stores have policies against going outside the store or off the property to pursue anyone. It will be grounds for termination. I've seen it in the news several times in the last few years.
I’ve worked at Lowe’s for little over a year now and honestly I can say if anybody wants to steal something, Lowe’s is one the best places to steal from because realistically we really can’t stop you.
I agree. It's very true for most retail companies. If their intention was to only get his license plate then maybe they would've been in the right only because they traveled as a group and did not tell the guy to get out of his vehicle. Ive had to do that many times. Write down the license plate then go back inside. On camera, he got out and confronted the employees when he could've just left. Instead he filmed on private property. But unfortuately they would've been fired for what the situation escalated into. No one in this situation handled it the right way.
It's also a safety issue, if you chase after a lifter who knows what harm could possible come to you, which is then also on their dime for being inured at work, which is much more expensive than a few items
EV3 Dale depends on the state. Some allow merchants who witness a theft to take action. Including detaining until police arrive. Obviously it’s bad policy for corporations to practice that. I’m not sure why an employee would want to. Many big companies with major theft problems have specialty trained staff to do just that. Even then, they should just relay good info to cops.
This is the future of 'customer service ' for us all if they're allowed to get away with treating their customers like criminals, going mob handed across a car park to track down a receipt. 1) use your in store cameras 2) use store detectives 3) don't abuse the customers that actually pay 4) people do not need to prove their innocence.
If you're not doing anything wrong why the fuck don't you just show your fucking receipt and end it but no, instead you want be a piece a shit to person who's just fucking trying to do her fucking job.
I'd like to see what would happen if one uses the self checkout, and not use a bag. AND, how the 🔥 you're going to put a flat screen TV, or a microwave oven, or a vacuum cleaner, IN A BAG? And what would she have said if he bought a set of tires and had them installed on his truck?
And meanwhile customers are leaving left and right without having their receipt checked because she is busy running after this man. Secondly, she hurried up and changed her tone when she saw her manager coming.

i worked for walmart, several things she did wrong and could easily be fired for (regardless of her position) : 1) receipt checks can *only* be done at the doors on the *inside* of the building. 2) she demanded to see contents that were already inside his vehicle (no one but the police have legal authority to look inside a vehicle and even that is only aloud under special circumstances) 3) her conduct can easily be viewed as harassment (there are more, but these are the obivous ones that anyone could see without even trying if she doesn't get fired for this, she better realize how crazy lucky she is and how stupidly she handled the situation.
Its possible that she did try and check his receipt at the door. The video starts recording well after that point. I don't think its smart to continue to follow him even after he's put the stuff in his car.
@@lexstacks6944 as soon as he cleared the building she should have stopped, whether she tried to check it at the door or not becomes irrelevant once he left and was outside the building, that's what loss prevention insurance is for and all Walmart employees are aware of this fact. she may very well believed she was doing right for her store, but truth was she put them at high risk for lawsuit, bad customer reviews, and making herself the next "don't do this" training video dummy for Walmart.

I used to work as mall security, and Walmart was on the way home. I would buy just enough to eat for a day or two, and walk out without bagging my items. I did it for environmental reasons. Every morning, when a particular Walmart greeter would work, she would ask for my receipt. I complied. After all, I was used to dealing with disrespect in retail security myself. But I got tired of it. No other greeter did this. I would use the self checkout, which is in clear view of the exit. I was in uniform, and easily identifiable if I were to shoplift. And there was no reason I couldn't just take a Walmart bag, fill it with unpaid items, and walk out the door. It would be foolish to get caught shoplifting there, because I came in so regularly. One morning, I just got tired of it. I worked another eight-hour shift, and I just wanted to buy some food and go home and sleep. She wanted to check my receipt. I told her no, I don't feel like doing that today. She yelled "I WANT TO SEE IT." I replied, "If you think I stole something, then go look at the video and call the police. You stop me every time I shop here. I never see you stop anyone else. I'm done." That morning was the straw that broke the camel's back. But I also knew from my job that no one outside of law enforcement has the legal right to detain you, unless you commit a felony. The bystanders that morning probably thought that I was the asshole, being mean to an old lady like that. But she never bothered me again. No regrets.
If you treat people like shit, before long they will act like shit. We as a species tend to live up or down to whatever is expected of us, especially in the US. Ever since Reagan, we have been shit on by those trying to divide and conquer the hearts and minds of people. And they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Walmart treats pretty much EVERYONE with contempt. They treat their employees like shit, they treat their customers like cattle, they look on everyone as crooks, is it any wonder that people act like that there? They set the tone with things like this, and you think we are going to be all sweet and kind in return? If someone treats you like crap, you're going to return the favor. It's what we call human nature. And those in charge of things in this country had better wake up to that fact. They have coarsened society dramatically in the last 40 years or so. I would suggest that if WalMart wants to stop acting like total assholes, people will act less like the same to them.

One of these days the Walmart here will try that shit with me and I'll happily call the cops on the one detaining me for false imprisonment. False imprisonment (1) Any person who knowingly confines or detains another without the other's consent and without proper legal authority commits false imprisonment. This section shall not apply to a peace officer acting in good faith within the scope of his or her duties. (2) False imprisonment is a class 2 misdemeanor; except that false imprisonment is a class 5 felony if: (a) The person uses force or threat of force to confine or detain the other person; and (b) The person confines or detains the other person for twelve hours or longer. Then again it would be better to let her call the cops, then i can charge both false imprisonment And 18-8-111. False reporting to authorities (1) A person commits false reporting to authorities, if: (a&b omitted, apply to use of fire alarms and such) (c) He or she makes a report or knowingly causes the transmission of a report to law enforcement authorities pretending to furnish information relating to an offense or other incident within their official concern when he or she knows that he or she has no such information or knows that the information is false (2) False reporting to authorities is a class 3 misdemeanor. When Walmart's greater get criminally charged every time they stop someone, the greater will start refusing to follow a policy that violates law. The only defense to the false imprisonment is if they had actually witnessed you shoplift, then it would have been a citizens arrest and a lawful detention. Gorse that gos out the window when you product your recite. and if you get them to sign an actual complaint ageist you before you produce the recite its perjury. Also if a cops starts getting foggy with you don't be afraid to call the sheriff on him, the cop has to know hes attempting to enforce a corporate policy on you witch is official oppression on its face, just imagine the headlines across the state "[Your city here] entangled in rights violation lawsuit because of a Walmart greater."

Fifty years ago, 95% of the public would tell WalMart to shove their rude loss prevention program up their ass, but now Americans will let a box store make them feel guilty if they don't kiss the box stores butt
True. It is ridiculous how they need to see the receipt just for verification that you paid for your stuff. And if you somehow shoplifted or went out of the store without paying for something, that's on Walmart for not checking your cart or basket.
Just let them do their jobs and quit trying to start stuff. They are there for a reason. Just show your receipt. What's the big deal about it? Ya'll are all wrong. Any company can ask you to provide proof of purchase. You don't have a right to walk out with property you didn't purchase that is for sale. You have to prove you paid for it. You don't have a right to anything in a store or otherwise until you have paid for it.
Don’t have to show receipt once paid its ones property. The reason for showing receipt is to keep their employees to stop from clouding with friends to steal
This is why they have cameras and security. Just think if you’ve showed your receipt do they even check your items, no they don’t. I will show receipt if there is no line in order not to cause a scene. My friend the thing is that in this country people have forgotten we have rights that came about by Americans fighting and dying for the things we believe in. If we don’t live or try to live by the rules then we become animals, so some rules maybe silly and outdated we move along but if the newer generations don’t know their rights then our future generations will be in a state of slave tax paying beings with no thoughts of their own.
JOHNNY-STAXX & FUNKO Pops you realize you’re talking about a walmart receipt right? They just wanna see your receipt not take your freedom of speech away boomer

Policy is you CANNOT follow into the parking lot. Once they step off the walkway in from of the doors you cannot pursue. Only police can. I worked for Walmart for a long time and was very close with our AP so I knew most of the "laws " I know enough to know that what they did was way against policy.
@JOHN So what if Walmart owns the property the customer is standing on? If she told him to do jumping jacks, is he required to do it? No. Being on private property doesn't mean you forfeit your freedom. He doesn't forfeit his private property (the receipt that was given to him) because he's on private property. It's still his and he can choose to not show them. It's perfectly legal for him to do that.
Wal-Mart checking customers receipts is a store policy. After you purchase the items with your money, it is your private property. There are no state or county laws that require you to show a receipt when leaving a Wal-Mart. They have to see you physically stealing an item inside the store and then attempting to leave the store without paying for it. If the customer had a receipt for his purchase, he should not have left the safety of his vehicle to explain anything to this woman. In turn, those employees should never leave the safety of their store to confront someone who could have had a handgun for personal protection.
Typical southerner. Fuckin bozo thinks everyone should conform to her values or they "have a problem with authority". Grew up with this shit every day and it don't stop.
They can actually lose their jobs as walmart has a no chase policy. They are not allowed (by their policy) to step more than 10 feet outside exterior doors in effort to chase someone. It's his 4th ammendment right illegal search and seizure. They are GREETERS not recipt checkers.
If I'm asked to show receipt I show it at door because our greeters are nice and they usually look at receipt not whats in your buggy usually black Friday and Christmas but mostly electronic cause for some dumb reason the anti theft refuses the scanner
Once you leave the store, you're done. No management or any other person has the right to make you do a damn thing. The guys said "That's how it starts" and it's exactly true. Rights upon rights are being handed away every hour of every day. Keep your rights, don't hand them over to anybody. THAT is the American way.
GRRAB Wal-Mart has every right to ask for your receipt, but they need to understand that if you say no then they cannot hold you from leaving. To hold you, they need probable cause for shoplifting. The lady in this video is either ignorant or apathetic about this.
Ya but isn’t it Walmart’s right to see what you did or did not pay for ? I mean they lose MILLIONS a year due to left. I agree once you walk out they can fuck off but isn’t it their right when your inside the door? In thei building ?
Jacob Sims the guy never admitted guilt nor was he forced to stay. He could’ve ignored them and gone on his way. If he was in the store, with video proof, the store detective/security CAN detain him if they have probable cause. Stop acting like you know the law, when you clearly dont.
@@jonnybe24 that's the only time they can detain you is if they have physical proof such as a video showing that he was actually stealing. Other than that they can't touch you or detain you just on their assumption that you stole something. I worked for Walmart for a while and they teach you this in orientation. But once you hit the parking lot they're not allowed to follow you. but their cameras do pick up license plate numbers and the cops will come to your house.
Slenderman very dangerous actions from store employees. Some people lure you into the parking area and bad things can happen. I’m surprised they allow employees to go that far. Call law enforcement that far out of the store they should never approach anyone.
nothing worse than minimum wage grocery workers trying to accuse you of theft 😭. They followed you out of the store into the parking lot demand to see your receit (against Walmart policy) bty and then have the nerve to say "why are you being rude?" as if they didn’t just chase you out of the store treating you like a criminal
I used to show my receipt whenever stopped until one time I did so and the door greeter started rummaging through my groceries. I get that you have to see the receipt and everything, but when you go searching through my groceries and throwing it all over the cart, it gets to the point where I dont see a reason behind allowing them to stop or examine my purchases.
I've said it before...I carry a shitload of reciepts in a ziplock. Check out, stuff the reciept and hand em the bag. It's worth the hassle. Believe me. 😄
Most people will watch this and laugh, or even ask “why’d he make such a fuss?” I knew why. And then I read your description and your reasoning was confirmed to me. God bless you man. You’re right, it’s nothing but small fractures at freedom spiraling all the way to the death of it. Fuck Walmart. Goddamn police state grocery store. Have a good one joe.
You are so right!! All these people are gonna think, "why is he making a fuss". But that's why we have problems like this. More people need to be making a BIGGER 'fuss'. These are weird, deranged bullies and we have American rights. I made a fuss tonight, because I was hassled for not showing MY receipt. The associate threatened to right me up, lol! That's REALLY stupid. Why are there Walmart associates walking around like they have more authority than cops? After what happened to me earlier tonight at a Walmart, and watching a couple of these viral videos, I don't know whether to lmao or file a complaint with the FTC.

Julie Cowan Yes they are. Depending on the state, loss prevention workers can even detain you until police arrive.
eshu orishas no they aren’t! I know the rules! My husband was a Walmart store manger for 17 years.. it’s a liability for Walmart! If one of those thieves shoot the worker for following them then it’s on Walmart.. my husband has had to fire workers for trying to follow them..
Walmart policy does not equal law.
You do NOT have to show your receipt. If they attempt to take items you paid for they can be prosecuted for theft.

And they call the cops

Not everything sets off the alarm, and if they have reason to believe you've stolen something, refusing to let them check can lead to problems. I was being being a sarcastic dumbass. I have stolen from Walmart though. I stole a donut. I know, I'm such a bad boy. Costco checks your receipt because its in their MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT. Walmart has no such agreement to shop at their store.

Like lowes cares about their employees
EV3 Dale depends on the state. Some allow merchants who witness a theft to take action. Including detaining until police arrive. Obviously it’s bad policy for corporations to practice that. I’m not sure why an employee would want to. Many big companies with major theft problems have specialty trained staff to do just that. Even then, they should just relay good info to cops.
This is the future of 'customer service ' for us all if they're allowed to get away with treating their customers like criminals, going mob handed across a car park to track down a receipt.
1) use your in store cameras
2) use store detectives
3) don't abuse the customers that actually pay
4) people do not need to prove their innocence.
If you're not doing anything wrong why the fuck don't you just show your fucking receipt and end it but no, instead you want be a piece a shit to person who's just fucking trying to do her fucking job.

@@Grim_The_Reaper after they become manager it turns into "i want to see your receipt"
Legally they can't do this. I used to work at Walmart.
No regrets.

BlinqBlinq it's true if I'm tired and hungry the last thing I want to do is interact with people as least as possible to go and do my thing...

But you’re not required to show the receipt at Walmart. If it was to the lady of such importance to find out if I had stolen any items it is as easy as checking the plenty of Walmart cameras.
Jay4413 Nav no they also check your receipt when you leave , and look over all the items you buy. They have every right to do that , this guy refused to do so in the store that’s why they followed him outside. He caused a scene over , what would have been nothing.

Actually you are (out the door, if asked) required to show them your receipt if they ask for it, its they're store POLICY. No there is no law but Laws and Policies are two different thing. For example If a store policy says you cant enter a building if you are not wearing any shoes, they are not required to let you in. No you wont get arrested but if the store owner, manager, or representative says you cant come in the store unless you're wearing shoes they can legally do that because it's their policy
i work at a walmart and this never happens, none of us care enough to put our lives at risk for some $10 item, even when they’re training new associates they let them know we don’t have any responsibility over shoplifters, and that our lives are more valuable than any item taken, not even the security guy stops them, they just let them run, walmart has an insurance that’s pays for any stolen item so
You obviously wasnt trained by Manager in Chief Karen of Operations.

One of these days the Walmart here will try that shit with me and I'll happily call the cops on the one detaining me for false imprisonment.
Read your stats criminal code, fun stuff can be found in it every ware.
Colorado
18-3-303. False imprisonment
(1) Any person who knowingly confines or detains another without the other's consent and without proper legal authority commits false imprisonment. This section shall not apply to a peace officer acting in good faith within the scope of his or her duties.
(2) False imprisonment is a class 2 misdemeanor; except that false imprisonment is a class 5 felony if:
(a) The person uses force or threat of force to confine or detain the other person; and
(b) The person confines or detains the other person for twelve hours or longer.
Then again it would be better to let her call the cops, then i can charge both false imprisonment And
18-8-111. False reporting to authorities
(1) A person commits false reporting to authorities, if:
(a&b omitted, apply to use of fire alarms and such)
(c) He or she makes a report or knowingly causes the transmission of a report to law enforcement authorities pretending to furnish information relating to an offense or other incident within their official concern when he or she knows that he or she has no such information or knows that the information is false
(2) False reporting to authorities is a class 3 misdemeanor.
When Walmart's greater get criminally charged every time they stop someone, the greater will start refusing to follow a policy that violates law.

@@franceswitham8214 The rules must have changed since I worked in a department store. Been a long time back. I followed a shoplifter around the store. I had witnessed him redhanded and he knew I had seen him, he was really acting pretty neverous then. The store manager, (boss), was waiting by the checkouts a d had the door covered. At the time it was not yet concidered shoplifting until the perp actually leaves the store with the merchandise. The guy knew he was busted and when he thought I wasn't looking he put it on a shelf and left. I held up the item so the manager knew he put it down. As he walked through the door the manager told him that his kind of business was not needed at our store, severaal customers witnessed it and we got a high five from the shopppers. Here in Mississippi, the perp has to carry the stolen item through the door before you can stop them.
They are not supposed to follow someone out of the door. It’s against walmart policy. Your just simply supposed to call the cops. In general your shouldn’t follow someone out unless they forgot something. But for shop lifting it’s a no no. They could be armed they could run u over. Don’t chase suspected or obvious shoplifters ppl. Ur life is more important.
And the cops will laugh in WalMarts face and tell them not to bother them with their sorry ass policies. Under laws in most states, the merchant has to witness concealment in order to detain. It is lazy ass stores like WalMart who are rude enough to expect their paying customers to show a receipt.
