J.T. Known as “The PHILOSOPHER OF SOUL” is definitely one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SINGERS, Among others.!!!! I ❤️ all of his songs, but I’ll just name three, Just The One I’ve Been Looking For, I Believe In You (You Believe In Me) + I Don’t Wanna Lose You Thank You For Remembering “A GREAT SOUL LEGEND!!!!!💿💿🎤🎤🎼🎼
I've always loved and admired Johnnie Taylor. My favorite song of his is "Disco Lady". Deep down, I do believe that Johnnie Taylor belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The reason being, is that Johnnie Taylor followed in the footsteps of Sam Cooke, but carved a niche of his own as a solo artist. And Johnnie does have a #1 hit with "Disco Lady"!
Disco Lady was the first single to ever go platinum. That alone should be enough to get him in the hall of fame. My favorite song by him is "I Believe in You ( You Believe in Me."
J. T. Johnnie Taylor. Thanks for my suggestion. I love all of his music. And you asked if he deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, HELL YES!!. Four Number one hit singles and one number one pop hit, and was the first artist to have a platinum single, you bet he deserves to be in.
Oh hell, I can't pick ONE favorite... there's too many to list that are among my favorites, but if pressed I could easily say: Last Two Dollars, Walk Away with Me, Juke Joint, Disco Lady, When She Stops Askin, Try Me Tonight, Runnin Out of Lies, Good Love, Slow Roll it.... ok I gotta stop! 🤣 Such smooth soulful voice. I have so many of his songs, it's crazy. I'm STILL finding a couple I don't have in my music library. I love listening to him while in the garden, of all things! Somethin about bein in nature and gettin my blues on. 💛💛💛
I love me some Johnnie Taylor 💞! My favorite songs are What about my love, September, and Don't make me late. I love all of his music and he most definitely deserve to be in the R & R Hall of Fame 💞🎉🥳
They Had To Know, Disco Lady Was Going To Be A, SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AS IN, PLATINUM SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He Should Have Been, In There!!!!!!!!!!!!! Disco Lady, Was The First Platinum Record, Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Truly, WORTHY OF RECOGNITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a good friend and coworker who used to be a red cap in the Toledo airport, and his mother had tons of Johnnie Taylor records. Johnnie came through the airport one day and my friend was excited to get to meet him and help him. When they were all done and Johnnie was about to get in the car, he pulled a dollar out and dropped it on the ground and said to my friend, "That's for you" Needless to say my friend was crushed and didn't pick up the dollar! When he told his mom what happened, she threw all his records in the trash!!!!
I deeply remember the song he had sung labeled (Just because) Being I was going through a lot at that time and I used a lot of his/those lyrics to explain to my lady at the time what I was going. through.
Well there's 2 songs by Johnnie Taylor I like 1. Everythings out in the open 2. Good Love. From 1996 this time we got a Good Love his comeback song. These 2 songs wasn't mentioned in the video but they are my favorite songs by Johnnie Taylor and I think he should be in the hall of Fame because he was discovered by the legend Sam Cooke
Appreciate hearing this story regarding the late & legendary Mr. Johnnie Taylor. Never heard about the tragic accident story. Glad he was honest regarding the matter. My favorite top five (5) songs by him are I Believe In You, Cheaper To Keep Her, Last Two Dollars, Who's Making Love and Disco Lady, which I loved skating to when it came out. Yes, he deserves to be inducted into the RRHOF. Why? His contributions and dedication to the music industry. He left an imprint on the scene by laying down some great tracts through his career. Disco Lady just cemented it by getting more global attention.
All actual all factual!! Thank you so much brother!! Anybody who read Jet Magazine back in the day knew of all the highs and lows and captured a perfect balance. Good job.
I think my favorite songs would be 1st. "Runnin' Out Of Lies." & next, "Stop Doggin' Me Around." I definitely think he belongs in the Rock In Roll Hall of Fame, for all the hurdles he overcame with his music career. He managed, on his own, to rename himself in music, finding label to label and keeping himself in the top 10 of the R & B music charts; not only that but his voice and style of singing made him popular in the Gospel, R & B, as well as Pop Genres of music. I Love you, Johnnie H. Taylor, R. I. P.!!! 10.26.24.
One other jam that I recently found out was a Johnnie Taylor song is Good Love. Anybody who attended any "mature" wedding in the 90s jammed to that song at least once...
Two of my favorite Johnnie Taylor songs, are “Running Out Of Liees,” & “Stop, Doggin’ Me Around.” Of course, I think I like That Song because of my LOVE for Jackie Wilson’s version, “Doggin’ Me Around.” I still LOVE Johnnie Taylor also!!! Both men, I thought were cute!!!
Hall of fame? Yes!! Strictly on the strengths of Who’s Making Love and Disco Lady which was the first ever single awarded a platinum sales plaque in 1976.
This must be AI Asking why does he deserve to be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. The video listed his accomplishments and charted music. There are some (including rappers) with less that are in there. Plus his peers are in there... Bobby Womack, Al Green, Bobby Blue Bland, Sam Cook, the list goes on.

Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Womack, Lou Rawls, and even Steve Perry from Journey were influenced by Sam Cooke.
